Personally, if it's just a game or two I think he got off too easy. Disagreeing with umpires is fine, they miss calls all the time, but getting physical with them (or threatening to do so) is totally unacceptable. A 45 year old umpire can't defend himself from a player, and it is a very short step from bump in the chest to throwing punches.

Did you even see what happened? He got tossed literally as soon as he started arguing, in a situation where that call could have made a huge difference in the game. It was ridiculous, and he barely touched him when he was arguing. Players should be allowed to argue calls without some cranky old fart tossing them.

Which is exactly why they suspend players for those actions. It may seem petty, but it's a punishment to let the players know there's a fine line. An ump is held to the same standards. If you wonder why there's a fine line, I direct you to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos%C3%A9_Offerman

Ninja, I've done some officiating before, not baseball, but soccer. It doesn't matter what the umpire did. You don't touch an umpire. I'm not saying the umpire was right to throw him out immediately, frankly, if that was the only thing that happened he shouldn't have been thrown out, but you don't touch umpires.

Especially this part:

"A day after the incident, the American crew that umpired the game resigned their positions with the Dominican Baseball League and left the country, reportedly due to threats and concerns about their own safety."

Ratwar, I've played NBA 2k10. Not baseball, but I know what I'm talking about. It's a stupid rule is all I'm saying. The officiating in baseball is probably the worst in any of the major sports leagues, and if you can't argue without getting suspended then there's something seriously wrong. I mean honestly, a little bump in the chest while arguing isn't anything worth getting suspended over.

Look, I'm just trying to point out that I have been on the officials side of the fence before, and yeah, when it comes to touching officials basically every sport has the same rules. You see someone go chest to chest with an official during an argument, and they get thrown out and suspended. You MUST protect the officials.

I agree with Ratwar. Just like the police. You bump them and you're gonna get in trouble. Obviously not a balanced comparison, but the concept is still the same.

I say we just drop this, it's obvious nobody is changing anyone's mind over the matter and people are getting their knickers in a twist.

I never really got arguing calls. It gets you no where. The umps can't change the call and the only that comes of it is you either looking like an ass or you getting tossed and suspended.Yea the officiating can be bad but thats just baseball and you have to deal with it.

Knickers in a twist? I was never getting angry, I just wanted to express my opinion too. *shrug* (and I wasn't mad at you about the Escobar conversation, either).

I was more referring to me and ratwar, you just happened to be the last one to post about it.

By the way, the same umpire I was talking about last night is the home plate umpire today. Our catcher said something about a ball, and he walked in front of Quintero and started yelling at him. Then Mills (our manager) came out later because he called the same pitch a strike for a Padre pitcher and when Mills went to walk away back to the dugout the umpire stepped in front and didn't let him. Granted Mills does want to get thrown to light a fire under his players. I'm sure it's all a coincidence though.

EDIT: LOL The umpire tossed Mills before he even left the dugout the second time. This guy is awful.

Well, another week in the books. If I had beaten anyone besides sbr, I'd feel a bit bad for them, since they put up some really great numbers and still lost. Of course, since it was sbr and his NinjaFish I don't.

Well, it gets you nowhere on the call that was just made, but it can influence future calls. That's why coaches and managers do it. Now players argue because they're emotional.

I love you Dallas Braden.Perfect game and he made a new record with it.It made the only perfect game against a team with a .700 win percentage or better.Plus I got a big 8-4 win.

:(

Y'all just wait, once my players get hot and play the way they usually do I'm going to stop svcking! Here's a list of players that hit below .200 for me in our matchup:

Michael Bourn
Ty Wigginton
Kelly Johnson
Derek Jeter
Pablo Sandoval
Lance Berkman
Miguel Tejada (coming in with an astonishing .000 average)
Hunter Pence

It's just insane that all these former all stars are struggling (Bourn, Wigginton, and Johnson haven't been all stars, but Bourn and Johnson will be).

So sbr, is there anyone else you'd like on my roster to add to the deal for B-Phil? I don't want to trade two players for one, so if there's someone you'd like me to take off your roster I'll do that.

You'll notice my team is doing very well right now. That's the case most weeks, strong starts. I hope I don't choke down the stretch this week like every other one though.

You have a Twitter account? So do I. Were you the dude saying how Valverde is the one thing you've had to look forward to as an Astros fan the past few years (or something like that...)?

Yep, sure am! I only use it to follow comedians/sports people though. Gets me my news as soon as it happens and that's pretty cool.

I had to watch your behind for an entire season last year :).

Well, I didn't have to watch it in the playoffs, but leading throughout the regular season (by a ton) is more impressive in my opinion.
