Did you even see what happened? He got tossed literally as soon as he started arguing, in a situation where that call could have made a huge difference in the game. It was ridiculous, and he barely touched him when he was arguing. Players should be allowed to argue calls without some cranky old fart tossing them.
Ninja, I've done some officiating before, not baseball, but soccer. It doesn't matter what the umpire did. You don't touch an umpire. I'm not saying the umpire was right to throw him out immediately, frankly, if that was the only thing that happened he shouldn't have been thrown out, but you don't touch umpires.
Which is exactly why they suspend players for those actions. It may seem petty, but it's a punishment to let the players know there's a fine line. An ump is held to the same standards. If you wonder why there's a fine line, I direct you to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos%C3%A9_Offerman
Especially this part:
"A day after the incident, the American crew that umpired the game resigned their positions with the Dominican Baseball League and left the country, reportedly due to threats and concerns about their own safety."
