TES On-Line

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:01 pm

(Note: This is NOT a discussion on multiplayer, which theres already a thread for, but if the mods feel that it’s too close I’ll understand.)

I totally agree with TES being a single player game, but that doesn’t mean that the community shouldn’t be able to interact at all. Frankly in 2011 that seams a little out of touch, and as a console user (with no access to mods), it would offer even more ways for the communities to stay involved with the game.

Here are a few of my ideas that will never be implemented, and that would all be completely separate from the rest of the game.

An on-line Pub: (Yeah the pub thing again, but this is deferent.) Take your character on-line to a community hub. Check out people’s characters, swap stories/spells, or just play cards. Maybe even do a little trading? No combat though.

An Arena: Think you built the most bad-ass character ever? Take’em on-line and test your might. Everyone would be equipped with the same gear (like in Oblivion) so even if some one cheats themselves a god-man, there’s nothing at stake but bragging rights. Plus you could check their stats in advance.

A “dungeon master”: Community members could devise custom quests, scavenger hunts, or whatever else, and see who can complete them first. Or…? The possibilities are endless.

Official Mods/dlc: Let community members suggest, vote for, and download new features and dlc.

Let us get involved!

Got some hate or ideas? Let’s hear them.

I would prefer absolutely zero multiplayer type things. But to each their own.

This. It's only missing cooperative play.

These ideas have potential. They need polish, but they sound good. Seeing as these would be completely optional features the crotchety hermits could just avoid them like the plague while people who appreciate a little interaction would have the option to, I'd say that if these ideas were polished up and implemented well, I'd welcome them with open arms.

EDIT: I managed to mispell "polish" twice, awesome...

I really dislike almost everything at online gaming, except fps deathmatches.
And that's because at fps you don't need immersion.

I tried to play online rpgs, games like farmville and lot's of other types of online games but I hated the expirience these games give, and that's because it have real people.
I mean,I played dnd online and I was at a dungeon trying to solve a puzzle and then somebody suddenly spoiled to me the solution.
After a while I went out of the dungeon and I was going to meet some very important mage and I started hearing people talking about Obama. :banghead:

Human controlled characters break the immersion and I don't want stupid people to break the immersion and spoil the game to me.
I say NO to any kind of online feature at TES.

I think you thought that at "I tried to play online rpgs, games like farmville" I meant that Farmville is a rpg game, but that's not the case.
I wrote a comma between rpgs and farmville to dinstict that I was talking about 2 different things, which means that farmville is not an rpg.
What I mean is that I played all kinds of online games and I didn't liked 90% of them.

With forums such as this, and TES Nexus, aren't these needs mostly being met, just without the gameplay and graphics, which would make it online multiplayer.

I'm one of the "crotchety hermits" Urge referred to, so I wouldn't use it but it wouldn't put my nose out of joint if it was in either.

Yeah me too,but my point was that interacting with real people online at games is breaking the immersion (if any),and since TES games are really immersive the implementation of online would be catastrophic.

Here's a personal and completely subjective reason why I object to any form of online/multi player/ whatever in TES. It starts with the best intentions, and you hear comments such as ' the Elder scrolls online community will be so much mature than the die n00bz attitude of the FPS communities,' but it ends with tea-bagging in Thamriel, and that would not only offend my sensibilities, it would be like being kicked in the soul.

I seriously doubt these are features that will make it into a TES game anytime soon. Bethesda has always stressed trying to make the best single player game possible by simply focusing on that. They have always stated that that is why online features have never been implemented.
