TES Nexus down?

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 11:49 pm

I keep getting a "too many connections" error when I try to check up on my mod on the TES Nexus. Is it just me, or are other folks running into this? It's been like that for several hours. I remember reading about some snot who got burned for being a jerk who was threatening to overload their system. Maybe that's what is going on?

I haven't heard anything about the threats, but I've been experiencing the same thing. Frustrating, because just today I wanted to start playing Oblivion again and wanted specific mods before I started. Mods that are only on TESnexus.

It's probably the same idiot playing with DDOS again, looks like most of the Nexus network sites are affected. They got it working again pretty quick last time though, no clue why it's taking so long this time round.

Yeah every once in a while I can get to the index page but that's about it. Probably the same goof at it again.

Managed to dig up his twitter page but there's nothing new, saw he made an amusing anti-Nexus website though.

I'd advise against visiting his attack site just in case he's planting stuff there. Best course of action is to report the URL to sytes.net as abuse and get it taken down.

BTW, this is yet another reminder of why one should mirror their mods to more than one site.

I couldn't agree more.
Countless mods were lost for ever when EuroMorrowind went down a few years ago.....
And the panic attacks here when it looked as though TESSource was going the same way in the not too distant past.

Interesting point - I never thought of it that way before, believe it or not. It's such a pain uploading to multiple sites and then supporting them on those sites... but yeah, I was able to grab the new OCR release because Arthmoor has his stuff on TESA as well :D

Exactly. I was gonna play oblvion today and remembered I needed one more mod, and Nexus is the only way to get it. Good thing for Planet Elder Scrolls :)

I may be remembering wrong, but I thought that most of the EuroMorrowind stuff wound up being saved at the Nexus by DO?

Couldn't tell you. I wasn't around when all that happened. My Morrowind modding barely scratched the surface of what I've done in Oblivion :P

It was a looooong time ago.... still it proves your point about redundancy.

OT but this is going to be a dying fast topic anyway...

When did Telesphoros start? http://www.mwmythicmods.com/telesphoros.htm

I remember that being a favourite for a long time linking sources all over the place ( introduced me to the intricacies of Wrye Mash and getting Balmora Expanded to work successfully with other mods, I miss that place :) )

Same as Arthmoor. But I know a few people who actually was active in Morrowind community back then, so I guess they would know what happen to those mods.

Hearing the name EuroMorrowind brings back so many memories. That was so long ago...

What happened there was that a community project was set up in an effort to archive everyone's collections and remove the duplicates. The majority of what was uploaded there ended up being outdated quickly, but some people like to hold onto old stuff, so it was kind of a big deal for a lot of modders. I personally didn't lose anything, since I didn't release anything until afterward, but I feel a connection to the whole thing because of the incredible sense of community involved in the process of forming the archive. The end result was hosted in a couple different places, but I'm pretty sure it's now associated with Great House Fliggerty today.

Even though Nexus is no longer down...is it under attack again or something? Because since yesterday the download speed is terrible. Yesterday i downloaded a file that was 196 mb and it took a bit more then 2,5 hours to do so. Download speed dropped to around 20 kb a second very fast. Normally i get a download speed of around 300kb.(Plus or minus of course.). That is nothing compared to others here perhaps but i notice the difference very well, and it is not happening to the big files only as well. I just downloaded a file from nexus that is only 1.48 mb and the download speed dropped from 270 kb to 77 kb in only a few seconds?

I tested my internet connection on PES and other sites and there i have download speeds of 700 kb to over 1 mb, so it is not a problem on my side of the connection i guess? I have cable modem so i am not worried for financial reasons or something along those lines, it is just that before yesterday all was well with the Nexus download speed.

You simple can't compare Nexus download speed with other sites for instance PES or FilePlanet, because these sites doesn't have a capped download speed like Nexus have. AFAIK you can still have an uncapped download speed if you have a pre-paid premium membership on Nexus. :)

Yeah i understand that part, but what i mean is that till yesterday my download speed on Nexus as a free member was around 300 kb plus or minus. Mostly minus, but it was always more then 250 kb and now since yesterday it drops a whole darn lot as mentioned in my previous post. That is why i asked if Nexus was still...or again under attack.

And if it is intentional...well then i have a opinion on it but this is not the place for discussing that. :)

It could just be a particular mirror that's slow at the moment. Try a different download link.
