TES Novels: Where's the 2nd one?

Post » Tue Sep 14, 2010 5:12 am

Seriously gamesas, or anyone at all, do you have any idea when the seemingly mythical 2nd part of the Infernal City is going to be released? It's about 7 months since the first one was released, the useless publisher's website gives zero information, and it's just all really annoying.

The book was great (but short), and man I'll be one pissed off ES fan if they've copped out halfway because they didn't like the sales or whatever. Do it properly or don't do it at all.

Can anyone shine some light on what's happening with this book?

Bethesda has a history of being quiet with their projects until they're ready to talk about it. With the second book, my feeling is that they'll announce it after they announcement of TES V. Because the plot of the book will take place before the plot of the next game, they'll make more money from people buying it to understand part of the lore that they would miss out on otherwise when playing the next game. The book also may help generate sales of the next game by people who liked the book, but I doubt the number would be significant. As someone who read the book, you know that the ending is such a cliffhanger that they very likely just cut the book in two to maximize profit, so it's pretty likely that they aren't going to not release the second one. But you'll just have to be patient. Bethesda likes keeping information secret until they're good and ready to reveal it and that's not going to change any time soon.

It can't be too far away - I'm keen for it also. I remember reading something saying that it will be released this year but that could be incorrect.

Since they are in canon with the TES timeline, meaning everything established in the novels will become new continuity for the games, a lot of people do give a crap.
And there has been quite some "uproar" about the first novel since it had some rather... "explosive" changes so to say.

Well, given the fact that a lot of people are convinced it will have something to do with TES:V, or be the catalyst for TES:V, I think a lot of people "give a crap".

Lol, never read it but if what I have heard is correct then the word "explosive" is the correct word...

It's not a spoiler if it's in the prologue, is it? That was basically right up-front. Plus, ya know, they said that would happen since the game came out years ago. Does it count as a spoiler if they said it already?

Anyways, no information, eager to hear any so I can finish the story. Enjoyed the first book.

I know gamesas like to keep things secret-like, but I was under the impression the book was a kinda "seperate" thing to the gameworks, like it was more in the hands of the author and publisher. Plus, they already told us there would be a 2nd one, so what's to hide?

Spoiler
Vvardenfells destruction wasn't a change. It had been meant to happen since morrowind.

Well, Bethesda isn't directly making it, Keyes is, but he needs to run it by them to ensure it doesn't conflict with past and future lore because it is intended to be canon, likely to give us a taste of the new political balance of power and the Medes. I suppose we'll see.

Yea i'm myself rather hesitant to call it a "change" too but for other reasons.
Not because it was "destined" to happen but because it's a typical "fantasy progression", meaning there is no graduate change over time or on a normal level, it's WHAM and violent.

You can blame the Greek heros for that; they had emotions and performed actions to an excess...perfect candidates for Chaos! But yes, whenever they did something it was WHAM, BAM, and violent

This thread calls for a wildly unsubstantiated prediction:

The second novel will be released in conjunction with TES:V's official announcement.

I had the pleasure of reading some of the book, and based on what I read... well, it was what I'd expected, from a video game novel. I'm not sure if there was only one copy on the bottom row of the shelf, because B&N was hesitant to stock more than one, or because the others were purchased. Anyway, it took this many months for me to find just one copy. My libraries don't even have one on their register. I do not anticipate a second novel.

Why wouldn't they release the second book? Bethesda would've organised the budget for it when the whole project began, regardless whether or not the first one sold well or not. If I could find this article I once read, it stated that the second one was going to be released in 2010 and that it was already nearly finished.

Of course, I could be imagining things in the case that I don't find it.

Came here hoping they would have announced it by now. If I had known that they were going to split the book I wouldnt have purchased it since it really isn't worth 15 bucks.

I completely agree with your first statement and speculate differently in regards to your second. The book will be released on 11/23/2010. I have a marketing speculation timeline for TESV that is silly in regards to actual dates, but I built it based on marketing trends and retail norms, so the dates ultimately made themselves, regardless of how absurd it is to "pick" an actual date- but there you have it!

If sales are an issue, then it really could go either way.

Halo and Assassin's Creed novels (as well as Magic the Gathering and D&D books) are available in abundance around here, despite being a niche market, but the Dragon Age novels and The Infernal City aren't available at all. I had to import my copy from the United States.

So, either it won't be sold at all, or it'll be everywhere.

I'm also anticipating a similar problem with the Fallout: New Vegas "All Roads" comic. I have a feeling it's only available in the collector's edition of the game, but if it's for sale in comic shops, you can bet it won't be in any of my local ones. :(

I'm still waiting for my local Virgin Megastores to get the book, the local Virgin supposedly ordered the books back in December, but they still haven't arrived :(

I mean I don't anticipate reading it, but they are watching sales, and I think other media are unlikely. Looks like the Tales of the Ansi graphic novel will never happen.

If The Infernal City didn't sell well, then Bethesda has only itself to blame. I didn't see or read one article about the book's release on any site. I didn't see it advertised anywhere. Outside of people who regularly visit the site, I'm not sure anyone knew about it.

If you want something to sell, YOU HAVE TO PROMOTE IT!
