TES: Oblivion GotY Edition

Post » Tue Jan 05, 2010 7:37 am

Hey all,
I'm in the market to buy an Official TES IV:Oblivion GotY Edition Strategy guide, and so far all i've found are guides that either the bookstores or
private sellers have them listed any where from $79-$250, about the only realistically priced guides that i've found are both the TES IV: Oblivion and the GOTY Edition eGuides From Prima Games,

What my gripe is, that when i've gone to buy a game for PC or PS2 such as TES IV: Oblivion GotY Edition, i tend to find that when i want to get a Strategy Guide to help me out when i'm stuck, that book is either no longer in print or it is so over priced that the budget gamer can't even find or buy said book. :banghead:

WTH is up with that!!!...Why doesn't the Publisher of the guide or the maker of the game ever think that maybe there might be people that get interested in a game late and might need a guide to help them out as well.

Sorry for the rant, would anyone happen know where i could possibly get a FULL Strategy Guide for TES IV: Oblivion GotY Edition in paperback w/o a high price, and NOT an eGuide please.
Any help for my dillema will be very much appreciated.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Oblivion. Yes. I know you explicitly said "not an eGuide" in your post, but seriously, give the eGuide a chance. You said you're looking for a guide to get you help when your stuck. UESP is wonderful for that, and anything else you might ask or think about.

Yeah, the UESP is VERY helpful, it has helped me through a lot of problems, in-game. And btw, get the PC game :) Else (nearly) all glitches and such will be non-repairable.

I'd certainly recommend UESP wiki over any hard copy guide. More accurate, more detail.

However, Amazon.com has used paperback guides available that would do the trick. You'd have to buy one for Oblivion and a separate one for SI to get a reasonable price though (about $13 for both, atm). Dunno why the GOTY edition is so high priced but I'll guarantee you it's not worth it. The wiki is more than adequate to get you through KOTN, which does have a dungeon with actual puzzles.

You're unlikely to get 'stuck' unless you impelement mods to make things more obscure. Oblvion does some major hand-holding. The biggest hazard is running into a quest glitch, which is something published guides don't deal with anyway.

If you want general tips on building effective characters your best bet is online.

Unfortunately I can't really help, all I can suggest is checking the local game shops. I'm not sure why the paperback is so expensive, but the availability is due to demand -- I don't know exactly how it works, but gaming companies release products for only a certain amount of time, then move on to the next project. Continuing to make the product for the scant few who'll come along later just isn't profitable

The only places I trust right now are Amazon, B&N, or Gamestop, and all I saw were digital downloads for around $20. Any actual print item was $50 or more. Do look for the Prima guide though, this is actually one of their good titles.

I assumed you ment to say PS3 instead of PS2. Anyway I use the unofficial Oblivion wiki and gamefaq for guides you could always print some stuff from there. http://www.uesp.com, http://www.gamefaq.com

Thetri,
It's not a type-o i meant to say PS2, because i have bought PS2 games at a time when that game was priced right for me(I'm on a budget) and when i wanted to find a Guide for that certain PS2 game it wasn't available as in out of print or was very high priced and completely out of reach, also I don't own the PS3, and until it's comes down in price, I never will own one period.

Why would you want a guide to help you roleplay lol. It's so easy too, it's not like Oblivion is hard, trust me, your hand is held quite enough in Oblivion.
But yeah, try eBay if you must.
