TES 5 on PS3

Post » Wed May 04, 2011 9:30 am

Hey there Bethesda just wanted to know if the PS3 version of Skyrim is going to run and look better than its 360 counterpart-- which would make sense due to the superior innards of the PS3 versus the Xbox. I ask because many multi-platform developers these days fail to optimize for the different hardware (i.e. Crysis 2 supposedly running the same or worse on the PS3 versus the Xbox). Also, I wanted to know if PS3 owners will be treated to the DLC and frequent updates this time around. That whole uncurable vampirism thing in oblivion was a real bummer :(

We don't know yet because we've only seen the 360 one, it's 8 months to release and many changes could be made, which could include optimisation for whatever consoles.

Well technically, it is developped for the 360, so they'll have to port it to the PS3, meaning it will look pretty much the same (and honestly, it would really [censored] piss me off if it looked way better on ps3... or even on 360 for that matter...)

things about games being actually worse on ps3 (framerate drops and all) are simply from extremely bad porting. EA are experts at this (just look at NFS undercover, you'll understand)
But I think Bethesda will do it right

also technically just because the PS3 has a better processor does not mean it is superior to the 360 hardware wise, the 360 has a better GPU and both have the same amount of Memory (512mb) it really all comes out in the wash, coding for the cell processor which not only uses 128 bit architecture and a new system of Data buses is exceedingly difficult and getting things to run better or the same on them is quite the challenge, in terms of dev cost, hardware and support the two are about equal and in most arenas the 360 seems to have an edge when it comes to pure visuals the AA tends to be better and the textures are a little smoother. The PS can support more things at one time which can also be impressive but it is a fallacy to say that the PS3 is superior to the 360

It's not a fallacy, show me a game on the 360 that runs/looks better than God of War 3, Uncharted 2, or Heavy Rain. Not to mention all the 360s people have sent back due to red ring issues. But I didn't post this to state the obvious, I just want to know what gamesas is doing with Skyrim on the PS3.

I'm an ex-360 owner and now game entirely on the PS3, and saying the PS3 is technically superior is just false. Both are about as capable as each other. Xbox is better at raw graphics (the GPU is better) but the multi-core cell processor can handle more at once. There's a big emphasis on the "can" becuase it all depends on how much effort developers put into learning the tricks for it. These days most games are fairly equal across both platforms, and I'm assuming Skyrim will be no different. Asking for it to be "better" is asking for a flamewar. Equal is more than good enough.

Dude, stop before you piss people off.

I can telll you now that the PC version will be the best looking version, and that the PS3 and Xbox versions will look pretty much the same, however us playing it on the PS3 will most likely have frameratedrops like Fallout 3 andd Fallout NW.
Anyhow this thread makes no sense, and seems like it will start a flamewar.

The devs prefer 360, so if your going console, get it on 360, or get it on PC. Not to say that the PS3 version will be horrible, but I guess the 360 will be smoother, wont be able to tell for a few months though.

This post makes me understand who you are.

You want to argue which console is better, go onto all the black ops videos on youtube and join in the flame wars.

I've played both console and you know what I noticed. You can't tell the difference. yes, there might be a console that has slightly better graphics or faster loading, but when you're in the middle of the game, you don't notice that.
