TES V: Skyrim - New Things that should be (IMO)

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 12:32 am

TES V: Skyrim...wow I havent posted as Knight777 for a long time...anyhoo please read below and discuss. What would you like to see new?

1) IMPERIAL LEGION JOINABLE with correct rewards as you are promoted such as guards address you as sir or something like that. Also being able to recruit, promote, demote, and kick people out of the legion etc. Maybe even call Legion members together for a raid or small or even big battle :)

2) Level Scaling like Morrowind, not like Oblivion, or even better probably NO level scaling - Oblivion's level scaling is VERY annoying. In Morrowind if you went up against someone you couldnt handle yet you would need to level up to be able to beat that person. On the other hand if you level up to your max basically no one is a match for you, but certain people should still give you a little bit of a challenge, people who would be like the Her Hands Guards and Umbra and boss level people like Jyggalag and Umaril. Also with loot and armor weapons etc, when you are at level 1 you should still be able to find Ebony armor, you should encounter enemies with ebony armor and weapons too... also when you are say level 50 you should still encounter more people will iron armor and weapons, especially bandits if there are any.

If the above suggestion is followed I think there will be more reward to leveling up IMO.

3) Maybe a side note of 2, things like Goblins, Minotaurs, Ogres, Grummites, Liches should NOT TAKE 5 MILLION HITS TO KILL! They certainly should not have more hitpoints than boss level npcs. It is so stupid that it took me SO much more time to kill an Ogre than it took me to take out Umaril...

4) Quests like Becoming the Duke/Duchess of Mania or Dementia should have a better way to play for the good character. I chose to become the duke of Dementia because I wasnt going to poison Thayden's food... and I could pretend that I was trying to find a peaceful solution with Syl but she just kept trying to kill me, and so she died at the end (actually from her own blow since I had reflect damage 101). Another quest was when you had to remake the gatekeeper, you should be able to free those people that dark elf was torturing! It seems you were able to free the the people near her but if you went back into a prior chamber before you reached her you would see that the woman below the floor and the man in the water were killed! You should be able to free them all maybe yourself, and either get the dark elf to stop permanantly or keep arguing till she attacks you and then you would obviously stop her by killing her or imprisoning her (see number 7 below :)).

5) Fast travel the way it should be...by guild guide or a boat or ship or carriage or something like that...you should be able to take your horse on a ship too. Also I guess you could click on your own horse and have the option to fast travel...also please read below in this first post a quote from DoomBlackDragon talking about the compass as well as stopping fast travel for battles.

6) Ability to train with trainers more, and the ability to train people yourself for money or for free. Also maybe option for live training sessions...

7) People should submit to you during battle (Not all maybe but at least some)! If they submit perhaps you should be able to have magic and/or metal handcuffs or something like that and:

Either they should put the handcuffs on, or last minute pull a sneak attack which you should be able to block, and then continue the fight
If they put the handcuffs on you should be able to take them to a guard and have them arrested, or arrest them yourself and take them to the prison if you are in the Legion.

8) Ability to pick people/things up and throw them would be cool :P

9) I like to have main game music off. But there should be in game music heard coming from taverns and sometimes castles for example which I would love to hear, adds realism and a good atmosphere.

10) Ability to turn off the compass PLEASE. Not even have it showing on the screen. And ability to get enough information from npcs and/or books etc to finish a quest without compass.

11) Ability to sleep in the wild, perhaps have a bedroll in your inventory. Once you set up the bedroll you also set up a camp fire.

12) A realistic difficulty option which basically would negate leveling. Like having people die realistically after 10 or less hits most in around 1-3. Maybe same for player...you can be killed realistically easier. Maybe have area damage? If you hit the head it is much worse for the npc than hitting the hand, etc.

13) If you are a good character you should have quests to eliminate the dark brotherhood and thieves guild.

14) Assasins should attack you at times (at least one in the game) whether you are trying to take down the dark brotherhood or not.

15) You should be able to bring a homeless person out of there poor state by giving as much money as you like. You should be able to give anyone money just out of kindness possibly moving them up to a better lifestyle (see them move into a better home), you should be able to let people keep their rewards for you completing quests. You should also be able to give weapons and armor and presents to people.

I may think of more in the future...if so I may post them here or make a new thread.

Knight777

UPDATE Please read below from DoomBlackDragon, it is great.

Alot of these idea are very good. I hope to see them. I know there will be a compass will be in the game sadly. I hope to turn it off. I mean really we are in the frozen north. I do not think the metal bar will be able to move so much in frozen water. Also this is before guns. So compasses where not even around. It just does not make sence to have a compass. No way it should even be in the game. I hope they remove the flag markers at less. I want to read from my journal about my quest info. I want to walk around a city talking to people to find out important info. I do not want the quest give to say I am looking for someone. Then all of a sudden my person knows who I am looking for and where they are at. I want to ask the quest give can you give me this someone name. Then I run around asking people for any info about this person I am looking for.

It not very role play like for me to magicly know where tom johns is at 24/7 and all I have to do is fly to the city and talk with him.

Second fast travel even if we use a guild to take us somewhere should not make us immune to all battles. If it takes us 3 days to get somewhere I want my character to be waking up grabbing my sword next to me or caster a fireball fast as highwaymen have come to steal my gold. It just does not feel right to be traveling for 3 days across the land with out having any problems. I can walk there on foot and have to carve my way through at less 100 mobs.

Aggreed almost all. Training should be expensive and only 5 times per lvl. LVL up during quests dammit! thats more fun :)

other than that i agree to all of them to a degree.

Also join imperial legion... it in skyrim but if they have any similar i would like that. And be guarding things too! not only quests. beeing assigned to guard a gate or public place for 3 in game hours, makes 30g pay? ;D good for role-play!

Your ideas are okay, but keep in mind that this is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim not Oblivion 2..

Why do you say that? What made it sound like I wanted Oblivion 2?

Every single elder scrolls had level scaling, and if implemented right it is pretty good, look at NV

i don't know about Arena and Daggerfall but Morrowind had absolutely no level scaling or respawning of any kind. the entire game was static.

I actually just read something like high level Monsters would spawn in a place if you were a high enough level...is that not true?

Daedric ruins in morrowind were scaled around the players level, you wont encounter golden saints until level 20 or so.
Also some loot was scaled (lower levels would find a scroll of ondusis open lock where as high levels would find a scroll of ekash's lock splitter etc).
But bandits and named NPCs were always static.

Whatever way it was Morrowind's level scaling was great. IMO it would be even better if you could find golden saints at level 1 etc...I think also you should be able to find any loot at any level...I guess I personally think level scaling should be totally removed.

Yeah and Creatures in the wilderness were levelled mainly less or equal to the players level.

Yes! Bring the Imperial Legion back to it's former glory! Although considering the events that are taking place in Skyrim, I'm not even sure the Empire really has any footing or authority anymore. If they happen to be in the game, I would love to join them again and move up the ranks like I did in Morrowind.

The scaled loot was only in randomly generated containers, it honeslty wasnt very noticable, and you could still occasionally find some unique weapon at low level, but like i said it wasnt very noticable. All the good stuff was handplaced anyway.

And like daedra's Man said, creatures in the wilderness also scaled, you wouldnt see too many diseased creatures until level 5+ or blighted creatures until level 10+ (of course there were exceptions).

I strongly agree with the OP's idea for fast traveling. I absolutely hate Oblivion's and Fallout's fast travel system, it feels extremely cheap and it kills the sense of scale of the game world. I would much prefer the fast travelling methods in Morrowind, or simply give me the ability to permanently disable the "Oblivion style" fast travel at the beginning of each Skyrim playthrough, PLEASE!

I don't want to be God...Do I want to be powerful? Yes, that is why leveling up without level scaling is very fun. But I am saying that golden saints should appear when you are level 1 because I don't think level scaling is good. If you choose to go up against a golden saint or a veteran imperial legion soldier when you are level one then you are in for one heck of a fight. It would be better if you wait and level up and then try to take on the golden saint. More realistic if there is no level scaling and you can encounter a golden saint at level 1. When you are at the higher end levels, you should be able to crush a golden saint.

1) I honestly could care less if we could join the legion, its not the least bit of my concern but I suppose it would be nice.
2) No level scaling pls. I think maybe like a mage going from level 10 when you are level 5 to level 20 when you are level 15 is fine, but when I'm level 50 I dont want every mage I find to be the most powerful mage yet.
3) This kinda pertains to level scaling, once you are strong enough, creatures will be weaker.
4) I agree to this, there should always be a good way and bad way to do things. Many quests only go one way, and I would like to see branching quests with good and bad intentions instead.
5) I disagree with the click on horse thing, or any of that. I liked morrowind style fast traveling much more then oblivion, and maybe just have mages guild members have acces to a teleporting portal and towns have strider things.
6) Eh, it doesnt seem necessary, but a good idea. Training your partner would be a good idea, atleast to a small bit below your own level. And maybe as you get better friends with more powerful people, they could train you to there own better skills.
7) This seems nearly impossible. Maybe if they could submit to guards, and actually be tooken to a cell for sometime, but not to me. Maybe they could ask to pay you off, if your a good character. (I'd honestly rather kill them and take there goods for myself.)
8) Lul, you can kind of do that in Oblivion, but I understand what you mean. I liked how you could drag people, and that should have something to do with the crime system, like hiding the evidence. And I think it would be cool to throw objects at people, like that gun in fallout 3 that lobbed any object out of it.
9) Like street perfomers and stuff, I could understand that. There were some Oblivion mods that added that (Such as Shezries Villages)
10) I like the compass, I'd rather just not have it tell me exactly where to go. But without the waypoint things, you would need the compas to know if you are going north, south, east or west.
11) Good idea, portable campsite kinda. This sounds like a good idea for Skyrim especially.
12) I dont exactly understand this one.
13) This sounds like investigative work or something, maybe join the guards, like number uno.
14) This should happening depending on how famous you are, and maybe if you hold a high position.
15) Good idea, especially if they have an evolving economy, like someone loses there job, they lose there house and become homeless. Another homeless gets a job and buys there house, and so the cycle continues,
Maybe even have them move from one town to another occasionally.

This could be interesting. From what I've read, the Empire's power has waned since Oblivion, and is on the verge of crumbling. Again, the bit I read (second hand source, mind) said that Skyrim wanted to cede from the Empire. So if the Legion was joinable, I would love to see morally grey missions, where draconian orders were given in order to force obedience from the population. Maybe missions where you are forced to put down dissidents. Maybe even a militant rebel faction to counter it in entirety to join?
2) Level Scaling like Morrowind, not like Oblivion - Oblivion's level scaling is VERY annoying. [...]

Morrowind did actually use levelled lists too. I'd advocate for a system where certain areas are inherently dangerous - things start off at a base higher level, the further you move from the start point. To using Oblivion as an example, once you pop out of the sewer, feel free to fast-travel to Anvil. But don't expect to be getting anywhere in the dungeons and ruins. Vampires and unique creatures shouldn't be levelled. They should just be very, very tough. If you try to take on certain things at too low a level, you should expect to die. However, levelled lists should exist in most areas, to an extent. Otherwise, when you hit top level, you'll just get bored and stop playing (or god forbid, actually do the MQ). It's weighing up between everything levelling, making you progress seem insignificant, or nothing levelling and you eventually getting bored.
3) Maybe a side note of 2, things like Goblins, Minotaurs, Ogres, Grummites, Liches should NOT TAKE 5 MILLION HITS TO KILL! [...]

Battle by attrition is a bit boring, yeah. I guess that would need the combat system being reworked, but from what I hear, this is already being seen to anyway. So... Yeah. Not much to say on that one.
5) Fast travel the way it should be...by guild guide or a boat or ship or carriage or something like that...you should be able to take you horse on a ship too. Also I guess you could click on your own horse and have the option to fast travel...

This would be cool. Also, towns should be removed from the map as standard, and be placed on them when you find the place, or have it marked on. See Morrowind. Gives a lot more reward to exploration and stuff. Means you actually have to plan your journey as well (lets see. How am I going to get from Balmora to 'x'? I could do Guild Guide to here, then silt strider to here, then boat to here. Done).
7) People should submit to you during battle (Not all maybe but at least some)!

Take to the guards for good people, slavers for bad. That could be interesting, to say the least.
8) Ability to pick people/things up and throw them would be cool :P

Build it into special attacks for hand-to-hand I guess. Gives it some merit when using it.
9) I like to have game music off. But there should be in game music heard coming from taverns for example.

Sounds like a good thing to me. Bards would make a nice target for my assassins... That'll teach you to try and bring joy to my day!
10) Ability to turn off the compass PLEASE. Not even have it showing on the screen. And ability to get enough information from npcs and/or books etc to finish a quest without compass.

I think both should be there. Compass at least, but the annoying flag markers could go. So long as a system was in place that would allow quests to be completed without it. Fable and Oblivion have the same problem, wherein if you turn off the arbitrary navigation system (breadcrumbs and flags, respectively) you're totally stuck.
11) Ability to sleep in the wild, perhaps have a bedroll in your inventory. Once you set up the bedroll you also set up a camp fire.

This would be brilliant. Modders have included this in Morrowind and Oblivion to much praise. I'd hope the developers would have caught on to this and implemented it. Only problem would be it does make taverns and houses defunct, to an extent. Something would have to be devised to keep them relevant. Well, for inns at least. Houses have customising and trophies in their favour. Inns would need help.

No that's the thing! I am level 53 in Oblivion and certain Ogres, Goblins, Grummites, and other things take SO LONG and need to be hit SO MUCH for them to die! So stupid, if anyone should be like that it should be Jyggalag and Umaril...

"12) I dont exactly understand this one."
Realistic hitting, in Oblivon you could hit a person many times without them blocking and they still don't die, if you have Realistic difficulty enabled hitting a powerful bandit in the head hard enough without him blocking might kill him with one hit...
