TES 5 - Skyrim RATING?

Post » Thu Feb 04, 2010 3:39 pm

Oblivion was rated T before some stupid perverted hackers got the nvde female body type for it. What do you think Skyrim is going to be? Does Bethesda yet know? I mean, probably not, but what about you guys?

Oblivion wasn't rated M for nudity. The T rating was changed because the reviewers went back and realized the game was much more violent than they had thought before. I think Skyrim will be rated M as well.

Probably M, seeing as there's an age gate on the site Now that they've got a taste of purposefully M games with Fallout, I doubt they're going to go back to T. The fans they got from Fallout will be expecting M.

Really? Because this is the official reason --

On May 3, 2006, the Entertainment Software Rating Board in North America changed Oblivion's rating from T (Teen 13+) to M (Mature 17+), citing game content not considered in the ESRB review. "The presence in the PC version of the game of a locked-out art file that, if accessed by using an apparently unauthorized third party tool,[107] allows the user to play the game with topless versions of female characters."[108] In response to the new content, the ESRB conducted a new review of Oblivion, showing to its reviewers the content originally submitted by Bethesda along with the newly disclosed content.

The ESRB reported that Bethesda Softworks would promptly notify all retailers of the change, issue stickers for retailers and distributors to affix on the product, display the new rating in all following product shipments and marketing, and create a downloadable patch rendering the topless skin inaccessible.[107] Bethesda complied with the request but disagreed with the ESRB's rationale.[109] Although as a result certain retailers began to check for ID before selling Oblivion,[110] and one California Assemblyman used the event to criticize the ESRB's ability,[111] the events passed by with little notice from the public and gaming journalists.[108] Although the mod was only used in the Windows version, the rating was changed for all systems.

Bethesda probably doesn't know - they've stated they just make the game how they want to make it and let it be classified as the classifying groups think it should. However, it will and should be M. I'd like them to make dark games. Going back to T (now that they've had M for Oblivion and Fallout 3) would be a step backwards.

What do you mean? Sure, some repetitiveness, but what?

Make it mature so they can do whatever they want, who pays attention to ratings anyway? Any kid who really wants it can just get his parents to buy it

Feh. Morrowind had outward racism, slavery, and eldritch Lovecraftian horrors and still slipped by with a T. I'm sure those things take too long for the ESRB to read over though, so they just slapped the M sticker on Oblivion in account of its scandalous nudity texture. I don't get this really - you may as well re-rate Morrowind, on the grounds that while it has no nvde textures, users may create nvde mods or even, gasp, use Bethesda's textures as a base in committing their heinous crimes! :ahhh:

Anyway, I entered my real birth year by accident on the new teaser site (instead of lying to place me at age 18...or 90 depending on my mood) and it let me in fine despite me only being 17. My first assumption was that Skyrim would be rated T, then I realized that the M rating cutoff is at 17+.

I just want the game to properly represent the province of Skyrim I don't care what rating it is as long it's not AO (because no retailer would sell it).

EC (Early Childhood) - If I'd seen that, I would have voted for it. :(

I don't believe that a video game requires a particular rating to be able to achieve greatness. That being said, I believe that Skyrim will probably have the rating of M by the ESRB.
------------

And just as a fun tangent, could you imagine an EC game based on The Elder Scrolls lore / world? Fun and educational...though mostly educational about The Elder Scrolls lore, to prepare young minds for their future TES gaming.

I am noticing the 5 votes for an AO rating. Are these jokes, or do you really want six and extreme violence in TES 4?

I wouldn't have a problem if it was either of those
