TES V Skyrim is the last ES game?

I think that Bethesda should continue with the Elder Scrolls series but also make a new series of fantasy.

They'll keep doing it, and I want them to, and I want them to keep on with the Fallout franchise, but at the same time I'd really like to see what they can do with a new, original IP...with similar, open world gameplay.

I'd think they have big enough teams and enough financial clout now to be working on the Fallout and ES series' side by side.

Maybe, but both are classic franchises and each deserve their full attention.

NV was great but Obsidian already had the tools ready for them, and I don’t want FO playing second fiddle for the rest of the series.

I like how they're doing it now and TES lore is so big there is plenty of room for new games without that it feels forced.

The Fallout universe on the other hand is starting to feel a little bit expired.
Best thing about Fallout was starting out knowing nothing about the world, after 4 games I don't think they should do a new one.

Suggestions for new RPG's Bethesda should do instead of Fallout: Either a Cyberpunk adaptation or a revival of the world of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgqX82-HRYE (mindbending surreal dark fantasy with insane artwork).

I'm saying this as gamer/layperson on the outside looking into the industry. So I may be wrong. But this is my take.

All of Todd Howard's interviews not only give me confidence that this franchise will continue well into the future, but also that the team has not even scratched the surface of their aspirations as game designers. He always honestly criticizes areas they keep running into the greatest levels of challenge in, such as creating words and people who respond organically to player actions. Each game has improved on that to some degree, and it sounds like Skyrim will again, but he comes right out and says that there is still a lot that can be done in that arena (no pun intended.) That tells me that this franchise will not end, not just because it's still so rich with lore, storytelling, and gameplay potential, but also just because it is a fertile ground for them to expand their work and try to innovate as game designers. When someone like Todd Howard talks about other games and says things like, "Damn I wish I'd done that," you know they are still passionate, imaginative, and ambitious as designers. And a universe like that of like Elder Scrolls is just too rich a playground for them to try and improve/innovate in to abandon in my opinion.

So if anything, my confidence that the franchise will continue for some time to come is higher than its ever been. However, I do think they may take a long break to come up with some really innovative and mind-blowing systems to use in the one after this. And narratively I think the next installment will feel different from I - V.

Do you really think they will drop a best-selling brand only because of some vague lore they created years ago? No way in hell they will do that. Do you think Coca-Cola will stop calling themselves Coca-Cola because the word 'Coca' refers to 'Cocaine'?

Well, in that regards, it's because most people don't realize that "Coca" is short for "Cocaine." All it needs is some TV personailty to "dig up" this link and claim that Coca-Cola is trying to get our kids addicted to drugs... one media firestorm later and the name of Coca-Cola will be changed!

It comes down to money. If it makes money, Beth will continue to do it. Once the series stops making money, they'll stop making TES games.

Bethesda should split into two separate dev teams and develop Elder Scrolls constantly instead of switching between Elder Scrolls and Fallout.

5-6 years between every new Elder Scrolls game is far too much.

The Elder Scrolls = The Neverending Story

*Cue 1984 theme song*

So no, TES V won't be the last game of the ES series.

There are only 5 prophecies in the scroll and we covered them in 5 tes titles, and Skyrim is the last perdicted event that would happen within the scrolls, so what do you guys think?

No, there are five prophecies on Alduin's Wall. There are many more Elder Scrolls. ES will only end when Bethesda goes out of business.

Can these threads please stop. They are by far the stupidest topics in the forums. Yeah Bethesda is just going to end a really great series that is making good money and is only getting more and more fans. Just because. There are more than five elder scrolls, we don't even know how many there are. For god's sake use your brain.

Sorry to sound harsh but honestly think about it.

I think the ES lore is too well written and far too intriguing to just throw it all away. If they eventually run out of room in Tamriel, why not expand to other continents? Akavir is also an immensely intriguing place; however I always seem to like things I know nothing about, then when I figure things out they seem less interesting. Atmora (homeland of the proto-Nords) and Altmora (homeland of the Mer) wouldn't be out of the question either, though the latter would probably be too difficult to tie together with Tamriel, as they are a long way apart.

Would be a sad day indeed, to gamers everywhere and RPG-gamers in particular, when The Elder Scrolls ends. May that day never come to pass.

Yeah well i think if people thought before they opened their mouths the world would be a much better place. Really kids i know a lot of you are quite young chaps but just remember people DO judge you on what you say. That is all.

Obviously the company will continue TES as long it can milk enought money from it.
Which is sad, because if SKYRIM end up as bad as Oblivion in term of tale and RPG elements, well i would prefer they to stop it and start another brand.
But SKYRIM is already the 4th ERA, and it will be massively bought even if total rubbish, so no it won t stop.

It would be fine if they could do something more like Arena or Daggerfall next time to refresh a little.

I don't see any reason why the TeS-series should ever end.

Erm, i think the confusion here stems from Alduin's wall.

The wall is NOT an Elder Scroll.

It is just one prophecy written on a wall ( a nicely carved one at that). The actual Elder Scrolls predict all the events that will happen in all of the eras ( except that it is always a bit vague about the future as it is mutable) and can also talk about the events of the past (at least most of them, e.g. no Dragon Break revelations). And not everyone can read them; but nice little moths can help you.

They even have nice shiny scroll cases, or at least they did

Martin, in Oblivion did say there would be more Elder Scrolls written.
