TES V Speculation Thread # 41

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 9:37 pm

I am looking for that to happen soon after TES:V is announced; to help pacify us rapid fans ravenous for information and to help generate better book sales by said fans.

agreed. I think the announcement for both will come out at/around the same time, and the book will be released shortly after the announcement, where as the game will still be off a bit in the distance.

Yes, now the time is ripe for the announcement. The whole gaming community is gagging for it lol, not just us.

However... there are quite a large amount of people dead certain it will be on next gen consoles, for some reason.

Amen, brother. You'd think someone who works in the video game business would know the difference between game publishing and game developing.

Though I prefer that Bethesda would release a plethora of information about the game when they announce it, I fully expect to only see a couple screen shots and limited information at the outset. Of course, perhaps it is better that way. Hunting meticulously for every scrap of information about the game may serve well as a means by which we can wean ourselves away from the speculative addiction of this thread.

No, though his response perhaps seemed strong, I quite agree with xXAntibodyXx. Apart from a legal backbone (and subsequently assured consequences), all attempts at preventing employees from divulging trade secrets are either veiled threats or idealistic advances. An NDA is not a threat, but an assurance that Bethesda retains (and fully intends to exercise) the legal right to terminate and pursue legal action against any employee that violates the terms of the agreement. It is, essentially, a contract; like a promise from the employee to Bethesda that secrets will be protected - except more of a guarantee underwritten by the letter of the law as enforced by the US government.

Promises, perks, ethics, and love of the company, though certainly useful in fostering a pleasing/productive work-environment, simply are not intrinsically substantive enough to protect trade secrets. In fact, scenarios could be brought forth in each where they would be detrimental to protecting secrets. There must be a legal foundation girded beneath for these positive reinforcements to be favorably applied as intended.

You use big words.

I remember there was an interview with Greg Keyes shortly after the book came out and he said he was pretty far into the second book. I just wonder if he's already done with it but is waiting for an appropriate time to release it before TESV.

I agree with stevej.
When Guild Wars 2 was announced the guild wars community was very optimistic about the game and the deadline all ware waiting for information about the new game, the deadline time passed and still no information (it was supposed to be released in q3 09) and in time it seemed like thy pulled the plug from the game.

To make a great game the company need time to refine it, if thy will show us alpha screenshots or vids we might be disappointed from the results.

We could always be optimistic about this silence, how you say? Maybe they are so quite because this they don't want to go into the 'silent period' ala Theif 4 or Guild Wars 2. The time that Beth has kept could very well be the time that nothing is being shown by these other companies, we know Beth, we know their pattern and how they work, from tha we know that from announcement, it usually takes 1 - 2.5 years to release, in between is filler and hype building ala New vegas. We also know that they are very good at covering up-coming games, look at all the entries about New Vegas since announcement on the Bethblog.

So. I had a dream where I got my hands on a beta version of The Elder Scrolls V and let me tell you, the game svcks. It takes place in a game environment in the distant future with gameplay not unlike a ratchet and clank - halo hybrid. If that's even possible. I just hope my dream doesn't come true boys and girls.

Even with all the legal consequences promised for divulging secrets it still seems like with that many employees working for Bethesda just one of them has to be a chatty cathy.

I seriously thought you were trolling hard until I reread the post and saw that this all happened in a dream.

So are we guessing that in a week's time we'll have information?

Computer game software for use with computers and video game consoles; downloadable computer game software offered via the internet and wireless devices; Computer game software for use with on-line interactive games; Motion pictures

Disclaimer: This post is pure optimism

Zenimax could be placeholders for the trademark as they are still joint companies-ish.

Are you saying the status for the other three will be dead?

The fourth Skyrim trademark is for computer game software, although there is already a trademark of Skyrim for computer game software. Does this mean they'll abandon the old one??

No but I don't understand how they can legally hold a trademark for the same thing in the same two classes something isn't right. I'm thinking(and hoping) maybe all the information has not been added in. I don't know but like I said something is missing

Stain come gimmie some fancy words to make me feel better about this

I'm still thinking this GI is TES V. I'm not sure about this new trademark though.

Can I get a quick recap on the circumstantial evidence we've gathered so far in relation to next month's GI being a TES:V reveal?

Well, the trademarks for Brink were registered shortly before the game was revealed. So, maybe that can be the case with this new Skyrim trademark popping up.

Yeah I'm hoping this has something to do with filing the statement of use

Fantasy game
sequel
not at e3
perfect timing with expiring trademark (to me this was the defining evidence and it MAY (or may not) be washed out)

if you worked for Bethesda do you really think it would be worth your job (and any future job in the game industry), huge legal fees and fines to drop a secret or two?

and most of the employees are probably not informed on the overall project. for example: an employee in the art department might be doing nothing more than creating wall textures, completely unaware of the plot or questline. it's not like everyone on the team has their hands in everything.

as far as the trademark goes, i'm not surprised. i've always thought the skyrim trademark thing was more of an effort to keep other companies from creating name-recognition than to secure a setting for a future game. if, for instance, Bethesda had not secured 'skyrim', the entire meaning of the name could be changed over a few moths with TV/Internet ad campaigns. think about it. if a company was to run commercials with an expedia.com-style jingle...after a few months, it wouldn't have anything to do with the elder scrolls as far as the average joe is concerned.
