TES V Speculation Thread # 42

Post » Thu Apr 07, 2011 2:15 pm

There is NO OFFICIAL information about a new TES game release.

This thread is for member speculation of when and if TES V will be released. This is where you post any new information about when it might be released, tidbits from interviews which mention it and such.

It is also where you post your theories of when you think it might come out based on guesses, number crunching, rumors or such.

This is about speculating on the next TES game and when -- or if -- it is going to be released. It is not a place for discussion of what is going to be in it, what type of graphics there will be, or any other subject of that type; they belong in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1090035-tes-v-ideas-and-suggestions-164/. If those kind of posts get raised they will be deleted and the poster warned for going off topic.

Please note that this thread is not a personal chat box and that one liners and posts of little substance will be considered as spam and thus the poster will be subject to warnings and suspensions.

No scans of copy righted material are allowed in this thread. All other forum rules apply. You agreed to them, so please read them.

I remember before ES:IV came out that Bethesda promised TWO Elder Scrolls games this hardware generation (X360/PS3) using the same basic game engine, and at the time assuming a hardware generation was about five years. Have they ever said anything like that more recently? I wonder if that second ES game became Fallout 3 instead?

Plans change , and this would have been around the time ES:IV was announced for the the X360. So quite a while ago.

With both Sony and Microsoft being adamant about the fact that their consoles are going to last another good few years, I'm sure that we will get a release before the expiry of the platform.

I think the best news I can draw from this new trademark filing is that whether it happens on next-gen consoles, in a year, or in August's Game Informer, they're gearing up for something - they really want that Skyrim name to themselves when that "something" comes along. Since this doesn't really confirm or deny anything else, I'm choosing to remain cautiously optimistic. I have hope for next month for sure.

Hey, on the upside, it is a substantive development, rather than rumour or inference.

I really don't expect this to indicate a launch being held back for next gen hardware. Perhaps it was just preferable to them to buy a little CYA room by getting the new TM for "Skyrim" in case the whole commercial use thing was harder to satisfy than we think it is.

Still waiting for GI cover and Quakecon.

I speculate that if TES V isn't announced until Quakecon, we will have over 50 of these speculation threads and over 200 suggestion threads.

I really think for Sony, Microsoft to release new consoles in a few years time despite what the media are saying "the games industry remains unaffected" would be very dangerous considering that a lot of countries are still in financial ruin and could get a lot worse. To generalise - Most people or the average person I think wont be able to afford to pay £500 for a new console just to play games that look slightly better than the current gen. Only a few games companies ever get it right at launch with new games. So I think if they are about to announce the game which I hope they do then I would imagine they would have taken this possibilty on board.

Only the die hard fans will fork out stupid money to upgrade their computers or get the PS4/newXbox. To be honest I love TES but Im not going to pay stupid money to play a computer games. Bills/Girlfriend/Life comes first.

This is where I stand as well. The most unsettling component to this development is that Bethesda can no longer be tied down to a date, which seriously threatens our summer prediction. However, there are a couple encouraging components as well. First, as ConfusedCartman and others posted previously, this proves Bethesda has a strong interest in the name 'Skyrim' and plans to use it - and it must not be just for protecting their assets for we do not see 'Elswyr', or 'Black Marsh' among the trademark applications. Second, if they indeed are planning to announce in July, then this new trademark application follows suit with how they handled their published games. The trademarks showed up shortly before the announcements.

Thus, though rattled, I believe we have not yet received evidence that revokes our summer prediction; and yet we'll know in a few weeks. Therefore, my best advice is to simply wait and see what transpires before we abandon hope.

You know, just be aware that there was only ONE Oblivion trademark for "books, manuals, etc." and that remained live. Yes, there were two Oblivion running simultaneously for the game itself where one is LIVE and the other is DEAD, but we are basing our summer expiration on the one that will still expire. That means that unless they want to lose the mark for making manuals, then they are going to have to a) file for another mark (which never happened with Oblivion) or b} announce the game!

Isn't there an option c) Make the manuals before the trademark expires.
I say this because both the Oblivion and Morrowind manuals seem to have a few errors in them which suggests they didn't really care too much about them being completely accurate or they made them before release or announcement of the game. I hope they put more care into the manuals this time though because those little mistakes bug me.

The little mistakes making them into the products that we purchased shouldn't lead you to believe they were created early on as you can always correct a typo or an error in a printed manual. It's not like they tie their hands once they write the manual and say, "Well this is what you trademarked, so you can't make any changes now! Haha!" I think that those errors are just errors that made their way through (though that stuff bugs me too!)

Again, I can't imagine Bethesda making ESV for the next-generation consoles, so it's probably going to be announced real soon. And I wouldn't want to have to spend a lot more money on the PC hardware in the future to play ESV in all it's full glory.

It also fascinates me that Zenimax trademarked Brink shortly before it was announced. Wouldn't you think Brink would be trademarked just as the development team got the actual name for their game and began actual development on it? Yet, the team was well into development by the time Zenimax filed the trademarks for Brink. It's a bit odd to me.

Can't be done without the use of mods. Seriously, mods are the only reason I have a desktop.

Why would Bethesda register Skyrim again if they have no purpose for it? They've been well underway with development, and the province they've been making for ESV has been set in stone for a loooong time now.

You can see developers watching this topic. You just have to continually watch the bottom. Obviously, they need a good laugh from time to time.

I have spent the better part of last night and this morning looking at several parts of the trademark site and comparing dead and live ones and getting lost in glossaries and indexes; been buried by codices-- but the end result is:

I think this new trademark will get abandoned. It is a safe-guard mark. The original mark will become the "LIVE" mark just as was the case with the two Oblivion marks.
There is no way to determine from these marks and there dates when the company will actually announce since the nature of having two is so that there are no restrictions, which makes sense and gives a lot of freedom to the developer and marketing team to handle their business appropriately (and for that much I am thankful, I guess since I really don't want some bureaucracy dictating to this level what a company can do with their product and how they need to reveal it).

I was even able to locate businesses that were able to revive dead marks with very little litigation (though arbitration was necessary).

What I can tell you is that when I found instances of concurrent marks, the "use in commerce" was attained by the "LIVE" mark within 1 year from a request for the "Statement of Use" of the subsequent mark.

To break that down a little bit, if my understanding of things are correct:

We will have "Skyrim" on store shelves within 1 year after Zenimax receives a request for a statement of use on the new mark. That should happen within the next few months (August by the looks of it). That means that if history repeats itself, whatever "Skyrim" turns out to be (TESV or a Travels or an Adventure, etc. just throwing it out there) that by August 2011 it will be in "Use in Commerce" state.

What that means for an announcement, I do not know; but this is all that I could gain from digging and now my eyes feel crossed.
