So, would anyone like to play a TES-themed strategy game?

Yes but I'd prefer a more wargame-style based upon past events (eg Battle of Red Mountain, War of the Red Diamond etc) than a Civ or AoE style game.

I will only support this idea under the strict condition that any development of such a game wouldn't impede upon the development of the main RPG TES games.

I don't see why people are so interested in changing what TES truly is. A Single Player RPG. So many "lets make TES multiplayer!" "lets make TES a strategy game!" "lets make TES a RTS!" "lets make TES an MMO!"
It's great the way it is, IMO.
A single player RPG. So I voted no.

TES isn't a game, it is a compendium of stories which comprise a fictional universe. Why is creating new windows into that universe such a bad thing?

Also, please be aware that no one is suggesting that they stop making SPRPGs, especially since no one at Bethesda has the skills necessary to make any other game type. This would obviously be done by a different team and therefore not impact the development of the SPRPG series at all.

There has been work done on Elder Scrolls total conversions for the Total War series - don't know that any of them made it to completion, but I think that particular series has a good foundation to build what you're looking for. May want to look into it.

I voted yes as a turn based game, I just don't think there are enough turn based strategy games out now. I'm imagining it on a small scale though, no armies, just a group of adventurers that you can customize at the beginning.

Mind you, I could just play D&D...

Yeah, and not sure. Turn based and RTS all work for me, I love the Civilization games and stuff like Age of Empires

So you essentially want an old school RPG (which is essentially what turn based strategy games are)?

None of the above.

I LOVE "strategy" games. The old-style RPGs were "tactical" games, not really strategy. It just that the TES universe doesn't lend itself to the genre, and I don't think the development team is really geared up to handle a RTS or empire builder style game well.

Look at Hearts of Iron III. THAT's a STRATEGY game (and buggy as a swamp in Argonia). Talk about a learning "curve"? That one's pretty close to vertical.

Meanwhile, I'd prefer if the RPG specialists stick with RPGs, and the Strategic Simulation specialists stick with strategy games.

Nothing wrong with a veteran strategy game company making a TES Strategy game though, right?

I'm an avid fan of strategy games, especially the older, more tactical ones that rely on your own unit maneuvers, flanking, and micromanagement. Not too big on the Rock-Paper-Scissors esque system used by more recent games, although Warcraft III certainly has a place in my book for its moddability and story. I think we could actually do a lot with military campaigns in a TES RTS, most notably Tiber Septim's conquests, the Akaviri invasion, and the War of the First Council.

Of course, many would even question Bethesda's skill in their own field of RPG games, I'm not sure if I'd trust them with executing a strategy game...

Another small developer like Slitherine could probably do it justice. Their Spartan and Chariots of War historical strategy games were like a slightly more focused and detailed "civ" game. Legion Arena was like an army RPG, where you built your Roman Legion or Gothic Warband into something powerful over time.

Essentially, yeah.

I don't really think it would necessarily be a good idea for someone to make a game like that now, it'd just be kind of cool if one already existed.

At the same time, there are plenty of fantasy strategy games, there's no real need for an Elder Scrolls one.

perhaps the MMO will be about which government ends up taking oover Tamriel, and the next RPG will go based of wich ever side actually won the MMO

In continuation with what the others said, I'd only be up for this if it was a separate branch of the company (or another studio entirely, one who really, really knows their TES lore) that didn't impede the development progress of TES V. Bethesda is known for their massive, open-ended, breathtaking worlds, but I think if they reach another road bump anytime soon, I'm going to explode.

While I agree that TES is great (possibly the greatest) the way it is, your closed mindedness is showing. As long as the game is "farmed" to another developer it doesn't mean we can't get the same old kind of TES we know and love! :nono:

I personally have been starving for a breath of fresh strategy since Civ 4 and AOE (II not III). I guess I'll settle for the Settlers 7...

I must admit, it would be very cool to be able to see the land of Tamriel from a birds eye perspective, but I agree with some of the posts on this thread: I don't want it impacting the main RPG TES ganes.

Yes, I would play it and it would have to be real time strategy. I don't know if I would buy it.

Hell Yes!!!! If they do it right. You could even have scenerios in it of the battles you hear about in the games. I think it may be kind of hard to get the factions as the Empire pretty much is the only militairy force in the provinces, mabye it would have to have past militairy forces as well.

Yes, why not and I would not mind seeing a RTS style, like Age of Empires. However, I think it would be good ot have alot of micro-managment of the type see in the Civ games. If we were to have a TES RTS game, it would be /facepalming if it was anything as basic as Halo Wars or a simular game which is only the most basic form of an RTS.

I must admit that Ive thought about how it would be to be able to conquer Tamriel while playing Medieval 2 Total War once in a while. I wouldnt oppose the making of an "Elder Scrolls: Total War" as long as they were sure to get the proper lore into it, and without taking too much effort from the RPG-making. But Im happy with TES as it is.
