A TES tattoo

Post » Thu Apr 07, 2011 6:19 am

So I've wanted to get a tattoo for a while now, but I couldn't think of anything cool enough to have permanently etched into my flesh. Reading and responding to http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1100774-some-thoughts-id-like-to-share/ has helped me realize that if anything is worthy, it's the Elder Scrolls. I honestly think I could be a 90-year-old man and explain my awesome tattoo to my great-grandkids with pride.

So here's the deal. I know that I want it to be TES-related, something that really captures the feel of the last two games (Morrowind in particular). It would have to be a pretty simple tattoo. And it would have to go somewhere that can be easily covered -- no, I'm not getting an ashlander face tattoo.

Alternatively, give me reasons why this is among the stupidest ideas you've ever heard. Hell, it's only been 8 years since TES III came out, maybe I'll get sick of the series in a couple of years. Or maybe TES VI: Grand Theft Ocato (oh man, that is such a lame pun) will ruin the series for me.

So brainstorm... NOW!

Here are a few things I like to get you started:

I might like http://membres.multimania.fr/xboxgazette/morrowind_01_800.jpg if he could be fleshed out to look more... realistic? You know, get rid of the weird angles and low-res textures that accompany a decade-old video game.

i've planned on putting the mage's guild seal (the circular one with the daedric runes around the eye) somewhere on my body...just can't figure out where. it's mine! don't steal it!

any of the town "seals" featured on the various banners of the castle's would make fantastic tattoos....Kvatch has a particularly nifty one with the wolf's head, or Skingrad's would follow the moon and star idea you already posted.

edit: i realize my ideas come from Oblivion...and you specified morrowwind preference...but i just can't recall any iconic images or symbols from that game (been a while..) and most of my tattoo preferences are rooted in iconography and symbols.

I have the mark of chaos (from Warhammer) tattoo'd on my shoulder and it looks realy cool. So how about getting the symbol of the dragon from the TES IV coin.

My tatoo (without the wings).

TES dragon symbol.

I don't think it's a stupid idea at all. I can definitely relate, as I've got an 8-bit octorok on my middle finger, and a cactuar on my wrist. Gaming has been such a large part of my life that it seemed natural.

I'd go with the Imperial Dragon, as it's one of the most iconic TES images there are. Or a scamp haha. Or a couple scamps doing something mischievous.

EDIT: As a side note, I've often wondered what the devs think of this type of phenomenon. It must feel good to have created something that people want permanently etched into their skin.

I actually really like the idea of using the Moon and Star; however, the question you have to ask yourself is: what will people who don't know TES initially assume it is? I can't help but think you'd get a lot of people thinking it's some kind of Muslim thing, or something.

Well the moon and star was Byzantine first, Ottoman second, and never really officially muslim. But, I think the Nerevar moon and star are a unique enough design.

I would go with something more subtle, like some daedric characters. But, if you want an image, what about a meditating vivec? Or one or a mix of the skills http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Skills

I'd like to get the ALMSIVI symbol (daedric AVS, as in Morrowind) on my lower back. Not going to though due to the bad associations of the tramp stamp, not due to it being ridiculously geeky.

If I were you, i'd definitely get the imperial dragon, with optional "The Empire is law - the law is sacred" above/below it.

I believe signing up to Bethesda's forums as Hircine no longer makes me a mega nerd :(

Perhaps you should look at the art book that comes with the limited edition of Morrowind? Some good stuff there.

This sounds like a great idea, and you've obviously thought it through (left it a couple of years and still liked it, have it in a discreet place etc) so I don't think it's stupid at all! My only suggestion would be to go down the symbol route, rather than a tattoo of a person/character, but that's purely my own taste. Will you post the result on here? I look forward to seeing what you choose :)

You know what might be good? One of the store signs you find around Vvardenfell.

Like the Mages Guild eye or the clothier stick figure.

It's a stupid idea because you should be getting your moms name tattooed on your arm instead

you know one of those heart tattoos http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2389/2121417100_6ed1da90ee.jpg

Or

The Kvatch logo always looked kinda cool http://images.uesp.net//5/59/OB-KvatchShield.png

I like the imperial dragon symbol. It's nice, simple and black 'n white. I don't really like tatoos with lot's of colors on them, so symbol's sound good.

This isn't a great picture, because it's not all that clear, but this traditional depiction of the http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/tribunal.jpg would be an awesome tattoo, and it encapsulates Morrowind quite well, I think.

I think you should do either the http://i32.tinypic.com/mmzb69.jpg or the http://chomikuj.pl/ImagePreview.aspx?id=186394245 symbol. The Bloodmoon symbol is more Morrowind and is very simple (a cave drawing looking wolf head in a triangle) but the Imperial Drake is much more classically TES as a series.

Any of the saints from Morrowind would make a sick tattoo, I think :P You could even choose it based on which of their traits best describes you :P

http://uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Lives_of_the_Saints

EDIT: For example, I've kind of been thinking of getting a tattoo of Saint Olms since I'm going into law.

This one is really cool, I wish I could find a higher-res, less dirty image. Is that from one of the in-game banners/tapestries?

I don't exactly remember. The image is from the Imperial Library (a site dedicated to TES lore and such, if you didn't know). Perhaps you can ask if anyone has a better version of the image on their forums.
