TES:V - What's Important to YOU

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 5:40 am

Good topic. Doesn't even have to be about TES 5, just about what's important in the TES series overall, right?

I know I've griped about some of the odd-out things in Oblivion. But, to be perfectly honest, I can handle a lot of things if the overall picture made more sense. OB just kept rubbing me the wrong way in that reguard.

#1 thing for me for any TES game-
Make it feel reasonable. Yes, be interesting. Just don't throw everyday sensibility out the window like that. Don't forget that even a fictional magic world doesn't have cameras, copiers, has no 9 o'clock news, etc. Nobody has a cell phone, etc. Don't have NPCs tell me I have the hands of a smith when I'm always wearing gauntlets, etc. etc..... Sensibility, please.

Three things that I really liked in Oblivion:

1. The world map. Every dungeon, city or place getting marked on the map once you found it was excellent. Dropping Morrowind's "color in the map" shceme was a good idea IMO.
2. Background music. Never turned it off.
3. Atmosphere. Good countryside. Nice, moody dungeons. Even found a lonely-looking graveyard out in the wilderness. Good show.

Three things that might need a little consideration for the future:

1. Daggerfall had a better fast travel system where you can opt to arrive at a place in daytime. In Oblivion, I'm always arriving in town late at night. Have to wait for NPCs and shops. Little thing, but worth consideration.
2. Bigger thing; Options. More options and flexibility. More spell effects, more options for enchanting, more factions, different ways to do quests, more ways of dealing with your stats and skills and all that. Don't have to have it all this crap. Just have more options. Just about every previous TES game had more options in one way or the other. It gives more ways to enjoy a game, other than just the way the designer intended.
3. Humble personal request; Keep the action aspect in the TES games, yeah, just don't forget about less reflex oriented svckers like me.

-The Quest Marker should toggle on/off for those that don't want to use it [...unless desperate]

-A realistic distant view, with distant objects.

-No psychic guards.

-Construction kit.

-*More Guilds: Mage, Fighters, Thieves, an Assassins guild, Local/Imperial Cult, Political faction.

-*Don't let UnDL'd DLC interject into the game world. I hated this in Dragon Age, but the Orrery sort of did this. It was kind of a chintzy quest anyway. Mehrunes Razor on the other hand was sort of worth it for it's *price and it didn't feel like something was missing there if you didn't have that DLC. [*Though I did find my copy of NotN in Target's clearance bin for $10 :woot: ]

That would require better quest descriptions since a lot of quests in Oblivion don't really give you adequate directions and you need to look at the quest marker to get to the right place.

1- More choices, particularly in quests. I want them to branch and change depending on my actions, so I can complete in different ways, like Fallout 3. Hopefully the devs will learn from that game, as an example of how to do quests.

2- More and better dialogue choices, again like Fallout 3, but wth better voice acting.

3- Improved AI. At least make them seem a bit more intelligent, and give them some tactics other than zerg-rush.

4- Improved combat. In Oblivion it feel too wooden and dull. I want more dynamic sword-fighting, with better animations etc.

5- More depth to the world. Bring the lore to the forefront, have more guilds, some of which are mutually exclusive, that branch in different ways, and make politics and intrigue more prominent in the game.

Actually, I didn't mind the quest arrow for showing the location of the cave or ruin or fort and just marking/highlighting the map can address that. I didn't like the marker once inside the location. Imagine the memorability of the Dwenmer Puzzle Box quest if you had the quest arrow for it. It wouldn't be memorable. I shouldn't know my destination in a structure when I don't even know the layout of the structure.

As for giving directions, hand me a letter with them written. No need to make it complicated, the only voice acting needed is "Here, I've written down the directions for you". [...I'm not going to remember them if they were just spoken anyway, so no need to voice act them] The "Lifting the Vale" quest was the best example of the quest style so prevalent in Morrowind, I hope Bethesda does much more of it in ES:V.

-Construction Set
-More Realistic NPC Behaviors (You can make a pincushion out of someone with your arrows from the darkness, and they don't even care)
-More Unique NPCs
-More Interesting Combat (I completely understand that all you have to do is swing a sword, but if they added counterattacks, stalemate moments [like holding a weapon against an enemy's and having to move your mouse a certain way to deflect them], and interesting hand-to-hand I'd probably be more interested in it.
-I liked the idea of having more interactive gameplay like aSaPp!5@ said, it would add a lot more perceived interactivity with the game world.

1) Bigger game world- Think Daggerfall size. Realistic city sizes, distances and populations.

2) Traveling/changing NPCs - NPCs that immigrate/emigrate. Random NPCs are okay.

3) Bigger dungeons - Again, think Daggerfall. Huge random dungeons could be great if done right.

4) More dialog choices - Voice acting is not necessary.

5) Daily downloadable content - Tiny mods that are automatically downloaded and installed every day.

1) Character Generation - I would like to "roll" a character. Make ranges for stats...not every Orc warrior should have identical traits.
2) Unique Character Classes - If I want to play as an Orc Warrior, I should be able to finish the entire game without picking up a lockpick or casting a spell. More importantly, my Orc warrior who has studied weapons his entire life should never have the skills to be the head of the mages guild. Currently, by the time each character reaches level 20, class doesnt matter any more. This would increase replay value in a huge way.
3)Consequences - as mentioned already. Make a choice and have to live with it...join this guild and you cant join that one...etc.
4) Economy - needs a total overhaul. Whats the point of picking up a magic item in a dungeon when you have 400,000 septims and every house? Make me pay for monthly expenses...houses, guards, a better lifestyle for my people, etc. Economy should be living and breathing. Make me need to raid a dungeon once in a while for loot even after level 20.
5)Hand placed items/creatures/npcs - the lifeblood of adventure. When I discover a hidden chest in a small lake on top of a mountain I dont want a silver pitcher and 6 coins...

From most to least important:

1. Return to Morrowind's Armor system: As in, I want pauldrons back and a left/right style gauntlet. Customization is a good thing.

2. More comedy: I like the TES series idea of comedy. I am talking about quests like Glarthir's, and the jokes in general.

3. More customization: Armor, weapons, spells. Add stuff from Morrowind, but keep it streamlined like Oblivion. New stuff would also be acceptable.

4. Buff Mages: Make the Mage classes more powerful. They should be able to kick ass with their spells; they do control the elements, after all.

5. Returning characters/references: I want to see characters like M'Aiq return, and references to past TES games.

I have confidence that Bethesda will keep the story interesting and the setting vibrant; that is why I said nothing about those.

Yeah I miss that too. Daggerfall's character creation system was really well done. The special advantages & disadvantages you could use to make the game relatively easier or harder is a great idea, plus it means each character is unique - moreso than Morrowind or Oblivion.

1. MUCH more realistic bounty system (guards should not know who you are after you steal a carrot from a house halfway around the world, there should have to be witnesses to a murder [ if i kill some one in two hits in their house when nobody else is around, then sneak out undetected, guards should not know], and when you resist arrest over a 5 gold bounty, guards should not kill you for it, but chase you and attempt to detain you.).

2. Easier character customization and much less ugly NPCs (when you move one bar it should not move any others.)

3. Better leveling (as has already been said, no more bandits with glass armor, and more types of armor [find different kinds every so often until the level cap]

4. Bigger world with more factions, towns, quests etc. (and different, harder fast travel system)

5. More realistic combat. (people are easier to kill, as are you, emphasis on blocking and dodging, more gore [gashes where you cut, possible dismemberment?]

uhmmm...

- I would love to have some companions... and wouldn't hurt to have some interaction with them... like friendship or romance or both! ^^
- The customization could be improved... I mean... I don't want to download things just to make my character pretty... or at least capable of being reconized as human!
- More small villages would be nice too!

1.) MAKE IT STABLE AND CRASH FREE!
2.) a more consistent handling of script/dialogue elements in CS, ability to recognize and disallow illegalities, possibly auto correction
3.) similarly, a much more robust error trapping both during mod construction and during gameplay with less cryptic error messages
4.) VERY comprehensive help file for the CS
5.) increase the capabilites of scripting variables

1)Mature themes/quests/main story/dialogues. Give us political intrigues and stuff.
2)Choices that affect outcomes. A whole bunch of them and not all on the good/neutral/evil axis.
3)Leveling system (both of the player and the NPCs). Already mentioned.
4)More worthwhile exploration. Less generic feel.
5)NPC AI (includes guards). It can always get better.

( 6) Classes that feel and play a little more different. )

Actually they are all pretty important to me.

1. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1104003-tes-v-ideas-and-suggestions-171/page__st__80 <-(Click Link (look at top post)

2. More than one type of Khajiit

3. More choices on how to go about DOING quests. Not necessarily affecting the outcome though.

4. Morrowind's system of travel.

5. The entire world in one cell (no loading screens when walking through a door or into a city)

Once when I was playing through the mages guild quest in oblivion Janus Hassildor got into a fight with his own guard and got knocked unconscious. Since npcs in oblivion can be unkillable it was merely humorous. If there were no unkillable npcs, however, this could have svcked. Or at least caused a reload.

2. Real necromancy! Raise Actual corpses for a change.
3. Bigger map...All of Tamriel/Nirn? Agree with spacing out things idea.
4. Ironed out all grievances from previous games.
5. A Damn good story

1.Pretty graphics.
2.Fast paced and action focused game.
3.No boring books.

5.Giant fire spitting dragons that pose a threat to all known civilization.

All this and some other minor alterations equals to the perfect game.

1. Dynamic global lighting (shadows)
2. Improved skeleton.nif(s) to better support Biped rigging (more bones for paudrons, skirts, etc.) and support for multiple skeletons/body meshes
3. More weapon class options like spears, crossbows, throwing weapons, etc. or at least permit custom classes/anim groups
4. Collidable partical systems so smoke, fire, steam, rain etc. interact with objects
5. 3D gridpathing and dynamic animations (NPC's jump fences, climb ladders, etc.)

1) fix the leveling problem
2) have joinable guilds that go against another joinable guild (necro vs mages) or something like the houses in morrowind
3) make combat a bit more intense (somethin like dark messiah, even though that game was pretty much a shooter with swords, bows, and magic.)
4) make it when i press the jump button i actually jump, aka make the controls more responsive
5) have more side quest that aren't just guild quest

Completing every guild's last quest should give you a follower that looks like http://media.photobucket.com/image/adoring%20fan/steve_tran79/15918-1-1205276828.jpg.

Also when you do a power attack, instead of grunting, your character should either scream like a cliff racer or say "By Azura by Azura by Azura!"

Obvious troll is obvious.

1. Variety (new armor types, new weapon types, new enemies, more varied regional terrain, more varied architecture, wider variety of dialog options, more guilds/factions, more quests and more ways to approach them, etc.)
2. Expanded customization (more hairstyles, facial hair, customizable armor/weapons/clothing, maybe even buildings, tapestries, more user control in alchemy, enchanting, and spellmaking, etc.)
3. Better story (more choices, better interaction/relationships, no overarching sense of good vs. evil, etc.)
4. Immersion (attention to detail, good weather system, good dialog and voice acting, more miscellaneous items in the world, improved physics, realistic guard AI, no major graphical hitches [loading zones, texture popping, jagged walls...], etc.)
5. Activities and associated rewards (fishing, hunting, smithing, topography, collecting, etc.; with unique items, abilities, and perks for meeting certain incentives)
