TES4Files - For Skyrim

Post » Thu Jul 17, 2014 10:57 pm

I have some loose files floating around in my Skyrim data folder and I'd like to know which esp's they are tied to and perhaps even BSA-pack some of them. I'm wondering though if there is an equivalent of TES4files for Skyrim that reads an esp and makes a copy folder based on the ESP's required files. I know it is possible to create a BSA in the CK but I've understood CK's own bsa-packer is a bit buggy. So my question is - is there any Skyrim compatible program that comes to close what TES4files does for Oblivion data files?

At the moment, no specific application like TES4Files, no. However, you can use TES5Edit scripts to generate a list of every resource referenced by a plugin. The script is "Output used assets filenames.pas" found in the TES5Edit/Edit SCripts folder. I'm not sure how you activate it, best to ask in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?showtopic=1490494 thread, but I do know of one limitation so far. The script can tell you what nif files are used, but cannot inspect the nif files to tell you what textures those nifs use, IIRC. I know zilav was working on a niflib interface to be able to get that information, but I do not believe it's implemented yet (don't quote me on that though).

Edit: You can activate it by right clicking on the mod in TES5Edit, select "Apply Script", then from the drop down find "Output used assets filenames" and run it. The output will show up in the side window, and you can copy past from there, or it will also be written to "TES5Edit_log.txt" when you close TES5Edit.

Assets manager script in TES5Edit is similar to TES4Files, and yes, it can read textures from nifs.

Ok, thanks guys! It's good to know that at least Tes5edit has some of the features I was looking for. I have a lot of loose files from previous installations. I guess I could just clean-install the whole data folder but that might just create more hassle than I'm looking for.
