[RELz] TES4Gecko Version 15

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:11 am

Haven't gotten to the point where I need to generate LIP files yet, but eventually I will need to, so it's nice to see that advancements are being made in this area. The whole process was left in kind of a mess by Bethesda, so this should help. Do the silent mp3s now work the same as Elys' Universal Silent Voice?

Do the silent mp3s now work the same as Elys' Universal Silent Voice?

After looking that package up on TESNexus for 30 seconds, here are the differences I see:
  • No OBSE required,
  • No forcing of subtitling,
  • I use a crude algorithm to approximate the silence length: 4 words a second, rounding up, 15 seconds max.
  • OTOH the use of OBSE seems to allow for the same file to be used at all times, keeping the on-disk clutter of dupe files way down.
But yes, it seems to serve the same purpose.

BTW is it possible to use OBSE to hook into the CS and automate things there? The one big pain remaining in generating LIP files is that it has to been done manually in the CS with a horrible workflow.

  • Also at bg2408's suggestion, generic LIP files have been added to the silence file generation so that lips are moving as the dialogue captions are seen.
Wheee :goodjob: ! Thank you so much for including this :)!

Hi I'm new to using TesGecko, been using it for a month or more.

I have found that sometimes when I compare mods and try to add different lists, they dont always copy everything, and when I check the mods, some things are not copied over and are missing in the Clipboard.esp.

Is there something that causes this?

EDIT: For example, the other day I compared 2 mods and I took the Scripts from one of them, but when I loaded the Clipboard.esp I noticed 3 Scripts missing from a total of 10. I have no idea why this happened.

If you are the "voice guy," you seem to be doing a lot more than talking. I'm very thankful for that, in fact I need some help getting the program to run.

When I double click the shortcut, I just get the standard Windows "Drone-tone" that indicates a failure. I don't know what the failure is. I am not a computer guru, so please target your help accordingly.

My shortcut = Target (C:\WINDOWS\system32\javaw.exe -xmx1024m -jar "C:\Program Files\TES4Gecko 15.1\TES4Gecko.jar")
I've tried changing the xmx1024 to several other choices, (ie -xmx768m -xmx898m and many others) all get the same result. The directories are correct.

I have Java SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_10-b33) Hopefully it is backward compatible.

I currently only have 1 Gig of Kensington RAM (total also 1G)
I'm running XP Pro SP3 (I've had very few problems with any programs on this computer. Heavily modded Oblivioin is not even a prob.)

Any ideas??? I really want to play with this program.

Chen Long: Try Xmx instead of xmx. Java tends to be case-sensitive; when I just tried xmx, I got the Bong of Doom as well.

Fillythebish: I haven't messed with the comparison part, though I cannot rule out something else I did impacting that part. If you could send a couple of small ESPs that show the problem... :D

Thanks Steve. that did the trick. Please stand by for my next noob question. :)
I just looked at the readme again, and you do indeed use the capital X in the readme. Notepad opens it in a font that makes noticing that is "X" not "x" a little difficult. Opening the shortcut, it is quite clear that it is a capital. Just thinking you might add "case sensitive" in the install instructions... but you probably alread have that on the to-do list.

Thanks again for your help. I look forward to playing with this.

I tried to install Java ™ 6 Update 10 and Update 11 and with both I can't see TES4Gecko interface. The window open an just copy whatever is on the background and stays as is. If you click everywhere on the TES4Gecko window you open some new windows with copy of the background again (meaning that the button can still be activated but as you can't see anything that doesn't help).

Update 7 works though so I'll stick to it.

BTW I'm using TES4Gecko 15.1.

Whenever I try to run TES Gecko I get this error- "Unable to access jarfile 'C:\Program' "

I extracted everything in the .zip file to the directory to "C:\Program Files\TES Gecko"

The target of my shortcut is "C:\Windows\System32\javaw.exe -Xmx1024m -jar C:\Program Files\TES Gecko\TES4Gecko.jar"

I am running Windows Vista 32 bit and have tried to download several Java fixes for it.

Any help in regards to the shortcut or the version of Java is appreciated

I assume the quotes are for illustration; in the shortcut, you'll have to put quotes around the entire file path (from the C: to the end). Otherwise, Java stops reading that argument after the first space.

I forgot to mention earlier how awesome the recent updates are! Thanks, man! :tops:

...
This ESP is also useful for extracting dialogue for the voice actors in your project. I'll cover how to do that later.

Tried to get this answered in the merging mod thread, but no luck... so I'll try here.....

I like mods and I use a lot of them.... I would love to be able to merge them.

I currently use OBMM (for easy installing and load order).
Wyre Bash (I think I've only used it to esmify and espify stuff, when editing mods... most of the features I haven't even addressed.
I have TSIVGecko, which I installed a week ago to merge mods, but the merging process was 'scary' so I haven't done it yet.
I also use TCS for mod creation/editing.

Having read this, it seems easy enough, but I have a few questions.

  • What does 'cleaning' a mod do? What program works best for this?

  • This 'hide' feature in Wyre Bash... it just moves esp's you are not using into another directory, but doesn't move resources? Is this the recommended method for old esp's that you merged together? I also have some esp's showing that I never use that I installed in case I ever download additional content... I could hide these the same way?

  • My first test in merging would be for the races I've downloaded. I'd like to merge Rens Beauty Pack, Necs Mystic High Elf Remake, Necs Mystic Dark Elf Remake, and Cute Elves Race. Currently I have some companion mods that use some of these race esps. What do I need to do with those mods?

  • Is it possible to merge the companion mods I have together... or could I even merge them together with the races merge?

Thanks!

Toj: I am not a merging guru; my forays into that part of the code have been few and tentative. One of the merging gurus will have to answer that one.

arxerisdam: This might be a silly question, but have you installed OB on that machine? TES4Gecko looks into the Windows registry for that info; no installation, no info.

If you want to avoid as many possible problems as you can, then it's best to only merge simple mods that add new stuff to the world, like a new set of armor, clothing, weapons, etc.

1. It removes accidental changes that the author of the mod didn't really intend to make. TES4Edit is probably better at cleaning than TES4Gecko is. See http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes4Mod:Tes4View#Cleaning_a_Dirty_Plugin.

2. Yes. That way you still have a copy of the originals in case you need them back, and the necessary resources are kept in place to support your merged plugin.

3. Probably better to merge race mods using the Bashed Patch feature of Wrye Bash.

4. Maybe companions could be merged, but you might lose some greeting text if you do. Almost certainly not good to merge them with races.

You need to add the registry entry "Installed Path" in:

HKLM->Software->Bethesda Softworks->Oblivion

Using version 15.1
Ran into an error when merging to master with the region selection portion. I have a worldspace within a .esm that has several regions, and then a .esp based on that .esm which alters several cells within that worldspace. Although I could merge the two without problems using version 14.5, with the newest version, I recieved an error that caused the merge to fail.
Exception while merging plugins

java.lang.NumberFormatEception: For input string "01010981,
0100f063"
java.lang.NumberFormatEception.foInputString(Unknown Source)
java.lang.Integer.parseInt(Unknown Source)
TES4Geck.Plugin.getCellRegionsUsed(Plugin.java:889)
Tes4Gecko.MergeTask.run(MergeTask.java:201)

The plugin to be merged also contained a new region, which might be why this particular merge faled. I had merged another plugin for the same .esm, for the same worldspace, but without any changes to regions.

And, thank you guys for making tools like this. Large mods couldn't be possible without your tools, and you have saved me many hours of trying to fix or rebuild plugins.

Vagrant0: Please upload the offending plugins and let me know where they are via any of the bazillion methods of notification either here, at Silgrad, or at NifTools. My guess is that you've managed to find yet another case that I didn't allow for. :) Amazing how actual use exposes stuff like that. :D

Are you guys planning on making a Fallout3 Gecko? There is currently no tool with this kind of functionality for Fallout. I have the Esp to Esm function supposedly works for Fo3.

Is there a way to use a Gecko function from the command line? I'd like to add a feature to Bash that creates a diff .esu file whenever you update a project (Sync from Data).

Would be cool, but we'd need a programmer who could do the work. If anyone is interested, let me know.

This is a feature that was investigated but never completed. I think it would be extremely useful. Maybe we can get Steve interested.

Using TES4Gecko 15.1 and Java 6 update 13.

I've run into an error when cleaning some esp and esm files, which some others have posted on the TESNexus comments for TES4Gecko as well. The error does not appear to impede the cleaning process, just requires clicking [ok] one or more times. Not sure what the actual effect is on the cleaning processes, however. I'm surprised not to find the error mentioned here already.

Some examples of mods that produce this error are:
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17965 (A CM Partner Aida for HGEC)
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15366 (Beautiful People - Compilation with Cosmetic Addon)

Several others, but this is just a couple to get an idea of what might be causing the error condition.

I've noted the comments about using TES4Edit rather than TES4Gecko for cleaning mods, and may go that route for now.

The error is:

Unable to compare record data

java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsixception: String index out of range: -1
java.lang.Sting.checkBounds(Unknown Source)
java.lang.String.(Unkown Source)
TES4Gecko.PluginSubrecord.getDisplayDataString(PluginSubrecord.java:783)
TES4Gecko.PluginSubrecrod.getDisplayData(PluginSubrecord.java:657)
TES4Gecko.PluginRecord.isIdentical(PluginRecord.java:1145)
TES4Gecko.CleanTask.CleanTask.compareGroup(CleanTask.java:220)
TES4Gecko.CleanTask.run(CleanTask.java:141)

Thanks,

I found the issue with that exception; a display type for a sub-record field was incorrectly set (NAM1 for the RACE record is a zero-length marker type, not a string). Not even used for the clean, just for the message. I changed that type setting and altered the code to provide an actually helpful message instead of an exception in future cases. I'm about ready to release 15.2; this fix will be in it.

BTW for the TESNexus folks, I check over there once in a blue moon. This thread or ST is the place to find me.
