Having a little trouble getting the "compare to" function to work. I load mod A in tes4edit, it loads both oblivion and the mod, then i choose the mod i want to compare it to, it starts to load, and then gives me a fatal error saying mod B is dependent upon oblivion.esm. Whats up with that?

What is the specific wording of the error? Can you copy/paste it from the Messages tab?

Here's the last section of it:
[00:07] Background Loader: [Oblivion.esm] Building FormID index[00:10] Background Loader: [Oblivion.esm] FormID index built[00:10] Background Loader: [Oblivion.esm] Building EditorID index[00:10] Background Loader: [Oblivion.esm] EditorID index built[00:10] Background Loader: [Oblivion.esm] Processing completed[00:10] Background Loader: Fatal: [00:10] Background Loader: finished

It does this for any mod, btw, not just this particular one.

You're misreading the error. It isn't telling you that the mod is dependent on Oblivion.esm, it's telling you that the master file in your load order is loading AFTER the dependent file. Your load order is wrong.

The datestamps on your mods has them loading thus:

Knights.esp
Oblivion.esm

Now the game itself doesn't have a problem with this, it loads all ESMs first in date order, then all ESPs in date order. But TES4Edit doesn't differentiate between ESMs and ESPs (since they're technically the exact same filetype) so TES4Edit just loads all ESMs and ESPs together, in date order. So ensure that your ESMs have an earlier timestamp than all your ESPs, then things will work.
Use Wrye Bash to redate your entire load order (when I do this I typically select 01/01/2000 00:01:00 as the starting timestamp).

That makes sense.... but the problem with that is that my load order IS correct! I just use boss, and looking at it right now, the date on oblivion is 2001-1-2 11:38:10; while the one for the mod im trying to use is 2001-2-2 15:05:10. Could it be the date format that's screwing it up?

Are you using the latest version of TES4Edit, and is the correct load order showing up in other utilities (i.e., Wrye Bash or OBMM)?

Turn off lock times, run BOSS, run TES4Edit, see what happens...

As Tomlong said, turn off Wrye Bash's Lock Times. Lock Times totally negates anything BOSS does each time you run Wrye Bash, so every time you run Wrye Bash, the timestamps are being reset and the mods are ending up out of order again. You should only use Lock Times if you do NOT use anything else to control load order.
