TES5 rating: blood and boobs

See I don't need more gore or blood, but I would rather like the option to have some mature sixuality/sensuality in the game. I'm not bothered by nudity and to be honest it is my game and what I see in it should be my business.

Sadly, I know I will likely not get any maturely portrayed sixuality in the next game without mods which means buying a PC to play the pc version with mods. It would be nice if the makers could meet me half-way on the consoles, but I doubt they will be allowed to do that so it’s the PC route for me.

Then again I cannot see any reason to hold Bethesda to a standard that most other developers fear to trend too. They know violence is allowed and nudity isn’t that the way of things and it won't change anytime soon.

This was the last post in the spec thread on the rating of TES5. It was off topic and the mods were getting itchy lock fingers so here's a new thread.
I don't honestly see any need for 'mature sixuality/senuality' in the TES game. It goes along with some of the question of urgency that all TES games lack. Sure you can save the world, kill the baddie and push back the apocalypse, but why not wait until you've routed the rats from a woman's cellar.
There's a lot of gratuitous six in the Witcher and it doesn't really fit with that game either. Why would the main character develop a relationship with someone when he clearly has more important things to do. If it fit the storyline somehow, even a little (hooking up with the count's daughter after solving a quest, or having some kind of side kick) then maybe it would alright. My characters are always lone wanderers, pulling strings while staying out of the limelight. There are plenty of relationship sims out there, and if it is just pointless six then I don't see a need for it in TES.
As for the rating, if TES gets an M because it realistically depicts blood and gore through its newly developed combat system then yes, by all means, let's have it. Show me the direct effects of my master swordsman, slicing through limbs and leaving bits of flesh on the ground after a fierce pummeling. Don't give me pointless nudity at the expense of making the game unattainable to everyone under 18.

But TES games are all about doing whatever you want to do. So your characters are all lone characters but what about people that aren't? What about people that WANT to be connected to other people and that want their character to evolve a relationship. Because just like everything else in TES, you wouldn't have to do it. You don't have to join the fighters guild or the mages guild or do the main quests. Actually, you don't HAVE to do anything. You could just run around killing rats and picking ingredients for hours and hours and hours, and you wouldn't have to have one sixual encounter or talk to a single person.

In fact, I'm much more curious as to why people want more gore? To me, it doesn't seem to add anything to the game except make it intensely more violent, which if I wanted mindless violence, I'd play Gears of War. Personally, the only thing that I care about going in to TES is having an immense world with intricate story lines.

Jimbabwe i agree with you
if i want a sims game than i would buy that

if they did that with TES i would NOT buy it

look what they are doing with fable 3
you can marry and have virtual children with your co-op partner- online co-op partner
that goes way too far

they do it because six sells
at least
to some folks

let me add borderlands is a great game
no place for the etc
would not fit either

I would also like to add this. six sells for a reason. As human beings, we are genetically designed to like six. There's no way around that. six creates life and we all have some very innate desire to procreate. If we didn't, there'd be a lot less people in the world. But as a result, people like six. If you say you don't, its because you A) haven't hit puberty B) your parents monitor what you do online (Which is a good thing, they should) or C) you genuinely have some deficiency in your libido. But otherwise, people like six.

I understand that not all people like six in their video games. But video games are art and art generally has the purpose of not only entertaining, but also to portray the culture in which it was derived. Its why six is in art from EVERY single culture that has been discovered and why it will continue to be in all art, along with alcohol. I agree that six in video games can be very distasteful at times (ie Custer's Last Stand) but there are ways to do it tastefully as well (Ie Mass Effect) Just because a game has six in it, doesn't make it the sims.

I want to play TES, though, and I hope Bethesda will make it like TES. Not The Sims, Fable, or Duke Nukem. That's how I see it.

Do you remember Cereality?

I guess 5 years ago, now  .... when one was opening near my campus, the poster on the window read, "53% of Americans like six. 90% like cereal. We have cereal."

If the flourishing success of Cereality is an indication of anything, TES V should have less six and more cereal.

I wouldn't mind a more gritty mature world, it allows for more believability and role playing opportunities. Just because Fable has six doesn't mean TES couldn't do it, especially in a much more realistic, tastefully done light.

Wives in fable seemed like the other 50 copy-pasted women in the streets, as well. If anything, incorperate a possible love-interest within the main quest.

I wouldn't want any overly "naughty" themes just for the hell of it, however I don't want them to cut back on certain themes just to appeal for a lower rating. It always sounded damn fake when NPCs "cursed" like saturday morning cartoon villains, when I hit someone with a sword I don't want them to spit out a 10 second taunt, I'd just want them to say something like "you bastard" instead. Short and spicy instead of long and flat.

TES is supposed to be a mature series, and no I don't mean just in terms of content but also in terms of it's setting and history, stop pretending like it's not.

To have tastefully done romances (a la Mass Effect), Romance options would have to be limited to like 2 characters per gender. Then people would complain about how their was no romance that was similar to their character. Besides, six and nudity just for the sake of six and nudity is just stupid, as is overly-done amounts of gore (Fallout 3, anyone?).

I feel that romance could be done tastefully and with variety. Remember the nirn root quest? A terrible quest in its own right in my opinion but it could be the same sort of deal. Very background while maintaining consistency. So for instance, they could potentially have 15-20 characters that have unique romantic opportunities. When you meet one, if their disposition was high enough towards you, it would activate the romance quest. And it would start with simple things such as going to meet the NPC at a romantic location and getting to know each other. You could at any point bring them gifts or you could receive gifts at random from them. It could be done at any time with no urgency to it whatsoever. it would just let you know that NPC A has expressed interest in you and wants to know if you would like to meet them at some point in time. The quest could progress as disposition increased, and once the quest started, that NPC's speech craft could go up to 100 to prevent you from just easily bribing them to a 100 disposition, but if you wanted to be the wily charming rogue who gets all the ladies, you would think you have a high speech craft anyways, so then wooing her would not only make the quest go by fast, but it allows options for completing the quest. So at this point, you have a romantic quest that doesn't have to be done at all, with multiple ways to go about it. Once you were married, the quest would be sort of postponed, so that it never really finished until either they die, you stop playing the game, or you get a divorce, either for fun or because you were caught cheating (doing the other quests would create their own risk). And it wouldn't have to be like Fable where you have to go visit her all the time. I think if you were gonna get to know each other and get married, she'd have to understand that you were an adventurer who was roaming the land. And each NPC that has a romantic involvement quest could be different while still maintaining simplicity and depth and most importantly, tastefulness. It adds maturity to the game but also, an new aspect for immersion and playability. The quests can be completely ignored or you could do all of them and be the crazy old guy who has all those stories of his younger days, when he used to raid dungeons and panties, killing a thousand men and breaking a thousand hearts. Or the loner who never experiences love. Its all about the character you want to create.

Personally I thought the over the top gore of FO3 matched its over the top theme. I just don't want them to tack on a romance aspect to try and make the game more fulfilling. If they did it right it would take away from the rest of the game, and if they did like I think they would, it would be something like the relationship nonsense in GTA4 where you just go through the paces to get that part of the story dealt with. If a relationship fit the storyline then fine. Maybe your wife gets kidnapped or even murdered and that starts off the main quest. As a sidequest, no thanks.
From a business outlook, a teen rating will sell more games. There's no point on polling this board. I would bet my house that 99% of the active members of this board would buy TES5 even if it received horrible reviews, took place in a show box and featured the adoring fan as its protagonist. The rating of the game does not sell the game to me, but there are many parents and gift givers who would not give an M rated game to a child. Any nudity will get the game an M and keep some people from playing it. Giving it a T will not.

Good lord, that sounds terrible. Again, this is only me talking, but while some people might enjoy buying flowers for barmaids, getting married, getting caught cheating, that just sounds like a dreary chore for an adventure game. It may create immersion for some, but IMO there's a limit.

But see, thats fine, because you wouldn't have to do it. but it would provide an open world for those people who would like that, which is what TES is. An open world sandbox RPG

No thanks

There's a reason I don't want six in TES, and it's simply because it would distract me too much. If there were half naked elf babes everywhere, I'd completely lose track of what I was doing and focus solely them. It'd just completely break immersion and the entire feel of TES

six is everwhere. You have the internet, why do you need it in TES? I love it as much as the next guy, but as soon as it starts getting thrown into every game it just cheapens it

In fact, I'm much more curious as to why people want more gore? To me, it doesn't seem to add anything to the game except make it intensely more violent

I hope they don't give a damn about the ESRB, PEGI etc. In my opinion, the series is mostly for advlts anyway.

I don't understand why people throw Fable II and The Sims into the discussion. The so called relationships in those games is the last thing i want to see in TES. But i would love if they did something similar to what BioWare is doing. Ofcause the romances is far from perfect in Mass Effect and Dragon Age but i definitely feel they are on the right track. Ofcause, the reason BioWare succeed with it is because the characters in those games is much more alive than in most games. Bethesda would definitely have to improve their NPC's before it would be worth it but then again, Fallout 3 was a huge improvement in this area. It also feels more natural in BioWares games because you spend so much time with the characters. That would ofcause be a problem in TES where you are mostly the lone wolf. But i believe it can be done. And i hope they do it. After playing ME and DAO, it really feels like Morrowind and Oblivion is missing something.

Ofcause i don't want them to turn TES into a pormographic Roleplaying game or anything but i don't know why anyone would fear that. I don't know about you guys but i've yet to see this in any computer or video game i've ever tried. But tastefully done six scenes like you would see in a movie? count me in.

I think this is something for mods to handle like they have in Fallout instead of already in-game. I think it's a terrible idea, mostly because I don't like the idea of nudity/six in video games. I don't find that it adds anything to the story or experience and also find it somewhat pathetic.

I'd much rather them work on better longer stories/quests ect than having six/romance involved.

I don't see why gore is such a bad thing for a realistic experience in a game that already has a lot of violence in it, why not make it as realistic as possible?

Blood over boobs? I choose blood.

Hah. Ever played this game called Oblivion?

I feel the need to reinstate what Daniel_Kay said earlier. TES is a mature game, not just in content, but in theme, setting, and history. Stop pretending like it's not. TES is a mature game that comes above the rest because of this very reason.

Raymond Feist wrote a series of books that started with a book called "Magician" - when I was younger I thought they were fantastic examples of high fantasy. At some point, possibly inspired by George Lucas, he went back and rewrote certain scenes and included among other things, a scene where the Duke's daughter offers herself to the protagonist. I have nothing against six in books, movies or certain videogames. There are some games, books and movies though where it seems out of place. The new version of "magician" was a lesser version of the original in my opinion.
I think having pointless six and nudity would lessen TES, and I can't think of too many people that appreciated the relationships from the GTA series, which is close to the side quest romance as I can imagine.

I haven't played many TES games (in fact i've only played oblivion) but from the sound of things, TES has never done six or sixuality and personally i like it that way. Now i will admit that yesterday i was thinking about how this game would be with a ME2 style romance but it just wouldn't click. All i want in TES V is almost limitless customization options, not six. And like someone else stated, that is a job for mods.

Going to go with Jim here in terms of six for the sake of it. I found my experience with the Witcher was pretty cheapened with the gratuitous amount of six going on. Heck, save a cat from a 4ft tree, and the lady you helped will practically get naked and start humping your leg immediately.

six, for the sake of it, is cheap. Prostitution, believable, but I don't want some silly cut scene, or the embarrassing Fable blackout six going on, as it ends up being more silly than anything.

As for relationships, hate em. More of a chore than anything, or a really cheap tack-on, both of which makes me ponder "why the hell was this implemented instead of beefing up this feature or adding more of this."
