tesgen out of memory!

hi all.

On my other computer I installed Oblivion just for the mods I cannot play with my first computer. I installed Zedar and the new Hiboriam mod, along with better cities and Unique landscapes. Maybe 80 mods in all.

Ah...run the TesGen to create the Lods. What?! "out of Memory, fatal error cannot continue"; this comes up before the Lods actually process.

Hiboriam looks to be generating a Huge amount of Lods. Must overflow tesgen's Memory bank. I, in Obmm, deactivated these two mods then went back to Generate, at least
for the gameworld and there was no problem. But of course Hiboriam/Zedar world will not be generated.

what would I do, when i get ready to enter these realms, deactivate all my mods and run Lods just for these two mods?

Is there a setting somewheres in tesgen to increase memory?

That's odd. Do you have more than 2GB of RAM? Post your load order, but there are not too many mods that could make TES4Gen eat up an absurd amount of memory. Is your TES4LODGen up-to-date? Mods that generate heftier LOD files are view everything when distant mods. Do you have any of those installed?

I have 3 gigs of ram!

i betcha this is due to Zedar and Hiboriamain!! never even got to the end of hiborianmain!!

but if i take these two mods out, then I can process all of my 60+ odd mods, including better cities, UL, elder council, warcry, cyberies, and the large desert mod that is now so popular.

Maybe Hibriamain has a few bad records in it that TES4LODGen can't process. Maybe both mods do. You could try checking them out in TES4View. Try starting in the CELL section, since that is where TES4LODGen is hanging.

Hmmm, I tried to go to the Mesogea forums today and I get this message: "lightningshore.freeforums.org was removed by the forum admininistrator on Dec 6, 2009."

Does anybody have the email of thekarithian? It could be a website error, although it seems a bit more... specific than a random error.

Major problems guys. A total hard disk failure has wiped the mod clean, combined with a major family problem too. A total wipeout I am afraid. Unfortunately the whole thing for me stops here. The end of an era. I was asked to renew the forum a couple of days ago and after a frantic effort to salvage what I could, I have to accept the end of the road.

Luckily you folks already have the files downloaded and can carry the work on. Sorry its been abrupt.



Sorry to hear about the family problems, it's never easy... and too bad about all the hard work that's gone into the project. But, things do happen...

I don't know how much more work I'm going to be able to put into the project either, especially if the man who's world it was won't be continuing. It was a great project, one that I had fun working on. Thanks for the good times and experience.

How big is this mod then?

It is as large as the Construction set will comfortably allow. Tamriel covers about 3x3 quads, a quad being 32 cells square.
Mesogea is a massive 16x16 cells, some of which is ocean, but the landmass is litereally far beyond what can be seen and
by fast horse would take a week or two to cover, whereas you can probably cross Tamriel in less than three days.

Are there any quests yet?

The main locations for the primary quests are being populated now with NPC's. We are recruiting.

What is new about this? Isnt it just a bigger version of Oblivion?

The mod uses the Oblivion engine and plenty of content however as the planet this is set on is our own Earth thousands of years ago. There is no room for lizardmen and catpeople. Some Oblivion creatures do not fit into the mod so they are left out. However a huge number of beasts that could not sensibly be in Oblivion will be found in Mesogea. Sabre tooth cats, Mammoth, Elephants, ancient predators and herd beasts, fantasy Greek, Roman, Persian and Egyptian beasts can also make an appearance.

another promising mod bites the dust!! guess this error cannot be fixed from their end.

a total conversion at that.

to think that i installed Oblivion on my slower computer just for this mod! well at least I have a game to play, i better not use this mod at all....

hi.
tesgen is now Generating, it was that mesogia/hiboria mod. a huge undertaking. might have been NO problem at all, this landmass, if i read the post right is huger than the whole gameworld! no wonder tes chocked!

There's no need to report anything in either the tes4edit thread or the tes4lodgen thread. The error is pretty explicit - out of memory. For good reason. The hiboriamain.esm is too large. By itself this ESM file is 1.2GB and the memory needed to process that plus everything else is beyond the capacity of 32 bit programs to handle.

It seems that that mod is better left alone, as unreasonably big as it is (for Oblivion's time hardware.)

It's the master file for the Mesogea project. And yes, it's incredibly large. I've never tried loading it into the CS because tes4edit dies just trying to load it by itself.

Could you possibly do it this way?:
  • Enable only the hibornian mod.
  • Run LODGen.
  • Move the distant LOD folder contents somewhere outside Oblivion folder.
  • Disable hibornian mod.
  • Enable everything else.
  • Run LODGen.
  • Merge the hibornian LOD folder into the newly generated one.
  • Enable the hibornian mod.

No, that won't work because DistantLOD files are indexed by load order and you'll have everything out of sync when the load order is set back up to play.

thanks all.

my jaw really *really* droped when I went to the data folder to delete some of this mod. that esm! that dadgummed thing was over ONE GIG in size!!!
yeah. no *wonder* with only 60+ mods the game took sooooooo loooong to load!

I freed up 1.1 gig, on my hd, by uninstalling. probably will also remove the mesogea folders too.

a shame. I sorta hope that i included this mod in my external hard drive backups, as now this mod is really dead, no place to download it anymore, apparently.

too too huge. I had noted that most esps and esms, are only kilobytes in size. the largest that i have seen is about 10 megs. tis a wonder that my game even ran. I will see now if i get more fps even by not loading this mod: i read somewheres that the Silgird tower mod, also large, would cause a fps drop even anywheres, even in the gameworld. maybe i can install a few more mods, now!

Unless your planning to wonder around in mesogea there is not point in having it actively loaded.

As it is there is only the basic outline of cities and no quests or people.

The landscape though is lush and very immersive - huge and there are some animal encounters.

Has no effect on tamriel though.

Quick note from a guy who worked on Mesogea, it is true, it was way too big to push through LODgen, I tried a few times without success.

And yes, the project basically very dead. We were working on a universe created by thekarithian, so even though he gave permission for us to keep working on it, it's just not worth it to try and re-do a lot of the stuff he had done, plus re-write a lot of the history and story now if he isn't going to be a part of it.

Plus, it was just too big of a mod for such a small group. It's too bad, lot's of hard work lost, but that's how it goes sometimes. It is nice to run around in and take a look, but it does take a LONG time to load in-game as well as in the CS, so if I were you I would probably remove it when I was finished looking around.

Guys, you dont need to generate the distant land for Mesogea. I did it all for you and packed it all in the meshes folders etc. Its already done.
My rig being 64bit vista with 4GB can easily generate the LOD using TES4QLOD. It takes a few hours, but it knocks it up better than the CS will do.

I am back to working on the mod, I have recovered lots of stuff and basically we are where we left off. If you need LOD generating for this mod, just ask and I will do it. As i say, the meshes for the distant land etc is all ready packed in the correct folders including all of the neccesary dds files.

They weren't trying to generate the distant landscape. They were trying to generate the LOD for buildings, etc.

That can be done also with TES4QLOD. If each building is checked as visible when distant and has the correct mesh, it will be done as a matter of course (check the Mesogea files, the distant buildings etc are there.) If everything VWD is checked in TES4QLOD then Mesogea will crash as there are some reduced size meshes that dont respond well to this. The best and safest way is to run it TES4QLOD on a rig that can handle it.
