TESIV:POSItive Installation Guides

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 6:34 pm

hmm, i spoke too soon.
i removed and deleted the knights and shiveringisle esps from my omod when i was removing the DLCs from omod and i don't see the OMOD installer files for them in my Oblivion data folder. I see a a Knights.bsa and a series of diff't DLCShiveringIsles files (meshes, sounds, textures, voices), but no one-click OBMM installers. clicking on the Knights.bsa brings up the BSA Browser window, with close, preview, extract, extract all, and sort options.

what's the best way to put these back into the game?

i looked on my GOTY disc 2 hoping to find one-click install DLC files but did not find them.

Oh, geez... You deleted the originals... You'll have to reinstall disc 2. Hopefully, you can just install the DLCs. After you reinstall them, pack each plugin and BSA into its own OMOD. That way, you will not have to worry about doing this again. There is no automatic process for creating OMODs. You have to package mods in OMODs if they are not available in OMOD format. There is no such thing as a "one-click OBMM installer" as far as I know... Don't unpack those BSAs either.

thanks. i will reinstall disc 2, though i don't think it gives me the option of just instaling the DLCs. i seem to be keep finding new ways of screwing this up.

i've read your site a few times now, but will keep re-reading it. personally, i am not finding this process very straightforward. i guess i am just thick when it comes to the myriad of things i have to install, and the myriad ways of screwing it up, such as following directions in the read me files that turn out to be out of date. my bad though for installing UOP and DLCs before QTP, as your site specifically instructs the opposite.

i did reinstall disc 2, as well as the other DLC files, the unofficial shivering isles and mods patches. after installing, the unofficial mods patch v15 installer reported these final lines in the output:

"[00:10] Loader: [DLCVileLair.esp] Loading file
[00:10] Loader: Fatal: The system cannot find the file specified>
[00:10] Loader: finished"

EDIT- i just ran the TES4 LOD generator and it gave the same message, so maybe the unofficial oblivion mods patch runs TES$ LOD after it installs?

No worries. The easiest way to keep the installation process simple, is to try and get everything in the same format. That is why I suggest that new users simply stick to OMODs and convert anything and everything into OMODs. If it is an executable, try to install the EXE's contents to a temporary folder, and use 'Add folder' to add the files to an OMOD. In the case of the DLCs, after they are installed, create an OMOD, using 'Add file' to add the plugin and the BSA. Most mods are either simple packages for which you can just use 'Add archive' to add the download directly to an OMOD or already OMOD-Ready, which also means the download can be added directly to an OMOD with 'Add archive.'

i think i might need to try this from scratch again....awhile ago, you asked me to delete the archiveinvalidation.txt file, and i mistakedly delted ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated!.bsa instead. i've no idea what errors this will lead to, but TES4LODGen flagged it being missing as an error when i ran the LODGen.

Wow. Delete that BSA and the ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated! app. It just implements BSA Redirection, which is exactly what that feature of OBMM does. Don't install unnecessary applications to keep track of. TES4LODGen may have flagged it missing because it is registered in your Oblivion.ini. Just generate a new Oblivion.ini.

that's good to know. i think you are correct- ran TES4LODGen again and did not encounter that, nor any other errors. rebuilt my bashed patch, ran the game from obse, and it appears to be fine.

i did notice this message (and a few others like it) from TES4LODGen though, and wonder if it is flagging an error or just warning me of a differing/conflicting, or redundant cell:

[00:17] Loader: [DLCBattlehornCastle.esp] GRUP Top "LVLI" processed
[00:17] Loader: [LIGH:0005CF52] in GRUP Cell Temporary Children of "TonyTestCell" [CELL:00054766]) was injected into Oblivion.esm which already has been injected with [REFR:000547A2] (places [LIGH:0005CF52] in GRUP Cell Temporary Children of "TonyTestCell" [CELL:00054766]) from Knights.esp >

before i proceed any further with the FCOM install, i'd like to verify that my current install is good.
i know about the troubleshooting mods you posted here: http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/index.php?page=troubleshooting_mods and the coc testinghall console command. i plan on using the testinghall to see if things appear to be working as they should, and wonder if there are any other applications i can run to see how my install is? i ran BOSS and it reported no conflicts or warning.

thanks again for a) your help and B) your patience. i have been a bit bumbling so far. i have been reading your site though, i promise.

ps- this is my current load order, with dealier sneaking, haverst flora 3.0.1, QTP3, QTP patch 1.3.1.0, QTP3 UOP32 patch 2.3, and Quiet_Feet_MAX_20_OMOD-15942 as OMODs

BOSS should've placed Streamline after the Bashed Patch, but your load order looks fine, otherwise.

Just reading through the new site, the "Preparing for Mods" section and the section on BAIN and OBMM and how they work "together". I've always wondered how a combined BAIN/OBMM approach worked in practice and what issues there were, if any, so it's good that I've finally found an explanation - thanks very much!

However, where you have written: "My Bain+OBMM..." - what do you mean by that? Is that your approach?

Yes. That's how I titled all of my "personal" pages. If you have another title you want to suggest for that approach, fire away. I cannot remember what I was thinking at the time I wrote that... I think I wanted to show that I use BAIN and OBMM together in a way that does not conflict or affect efficiency and organization at all. Actually, I'm probably making all of this up right now. I only threw the "My" stuff up if it seemed to be frequently requested, relevant and useful.

Hi Tomlong, and congrats for this wonderful site, the bible of Oblivion modding I dare say... I'm in the process of reinstalling everything with BAIN, I've just finished the FCOM part, and everything is working very smoothly so far. The game loads fine and the FPS is good. I couldn't have done it without your work. So kudos to you!

However, there's a trifling matter that is bugging me in my BAIN packages list. I have renamed the Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch.esp (MOBS version) to DLCShiveringIsles.esp to get rid of the dummy esp (as you did, according to your LO), and my USIP package is always telling me that DLCShiveringIsles.esp is missing. Obviously it's not, it's right there in the Data folder. I've redone the package twice, to no avail. Do you get that too? Maybe it's some kind of Wrye Bash bug...

Anyway, it's nothing serious, just confusing. If you have any suggestion... :)

Yes. I do. Wow, someone else has the same problem. Cool! except for the bad part. Do you have the renamed plugin in a project? What is your setup regarding the modified USIP and the original file? Do you have the original file packed in an archive or project as well, or is it just lost?

Edit: I would like to try and collect some more information on this issue to give to the Bash team to see if they can figure it out. This just gave men an idea that I will try out when I return home.

Keep me posted with your BAIN transition if you need help or tips. Thank you for the feedback. It's much appreciated. ^____^

Happy gaming!

Well, yes, that's reassuring to know it's not just my setup.

So, your questions:

1.I have no project in the installer tab. I get rid of them once they're archived. (Of course all the original files are stored somewhere else).
2.The original file is not present in any archive. I've deleted DLCShiveringIsles.esp and packaged the USIP with the renamed MOBS esp. (Hope you're following...)

Here's the package list:

Yep. Main thing is, AWLS needs to be last, for the areas it covers.

Hmm, tom, I've noticed something that is very serious...

I did perfect BAINstallation. All was working brilliant. And then, one day...
...I noticed thatseveral trustworthy mods started bahaving in very unusual way.
Bag of Alchemy started causing CTD after command Sort Ingredients.
Sentient Weapon installed perfectly showed missing meshes and demanded meshes with unusual names non-existing in the mod.
Unlimited wear started showing processing 2 items when I was processing only one etc. etc.
I uninstalled ALL mods and Lo and Behold! after I uninstalled ALL, There were over 30 esps active in Mods section of Wrye Bash...
I re-installed all, all is working perfect but...
Today I uninstalled Better Cities 4.5.2b to make clean update to 4.6.0b
When all parts of the mod were uninstalled, I still could see the esps in Mods section. Deleted them and made clean save, then updated, all works well.

But my question is: Why after I uninstall a BAIN pack, there are leftovers?
Should I make OMODS and activate/deactivate to make sure everything is uninstalled without leftovers?
