Didn't want to push the post limit on the Wrye Bash thread.

I am sure it has to do with the number of packages. I have watched the time to go up. I can remember when it used to take 5-6 minutes. Keep in mind that I have not really used v285, and I have barely used v284. I usually run a number of things at a time because I am a music junkie, so iTunes is always running in the background, and Firefox or Google Chrome is open because I am on the forums or working on websites all of the time. I can get a more official time when I get home. The 10 minutes things is a ballpark number, but it is somewhere around there. I do not mind. Most people have little to no reason to have over 700 packages in their Installers folder.
I see, you are multitasking a lot.
Yes, v284? really changed the amount of time it take to scan the package directory. PM says He's not sure why.

Opps! Good point.

? your are comparing Optimized Distant Land MAX to ?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Uhhh...no. I was referring to your new textures setup vs. using primarily QTP3. I switched to using ATP alone, but now I will be throwing QTP3 back in for the sewer, cave and ruin textures. I love the slimy-looking sewer and the 3D rock and hard structures. Plus, ATP does not replace those...yet. I cannot wait to get the rest of Ampolex's texture mods, top quality texturing there.

When you say "ATP alone", are you referring to these?
516 - ATP - Blackwood-28500.7z (5F34B9C1)
517 - ATP - Bones-OBcT-28376.7z (AD3331B3)
518 - ATP - Colovian Highlands-28637.7z (E278A85D)
519 - ATP - Gold Coast-28383.7z (FEDADA25)
520 - ATP - Great Grasses-28682.7z (E6CA5C68)
521 - ATP - Leyawiin Swamp-26893.7z (8DC170D7)
522 - ATP - Lower Class Cups and Bowls-28808.7z (602819AB)
523 - ATP - Medieval Book Textures-27527.7z (5B561C5D)
524 - ATP - Roads-28683.7z (DC708118)

I have read every thread regarding ATP and I'm waiting as well.
Since I only have the v0.1 files (4) and ATP - Gold Coast v2.0, I may only add the later. to my list.

Yup, as my main texture pack, ATP was it. I also used Koldorn's textures to supplement what ATP did not cover.

Yes, I have yet to update it. Organizing my current list should be a project for the weekend. I can post a current list then. It is about 100 packages longer, haha...

Tomlong - Have you (or could you) include a section on advice reference difficulties accessing the console, InfraRed devices taking over the mapping for the tilde ~ key.

Commonly on laptops, in device manager if you disable (not un-install) a CIR device, the tilde key works to enable access to the console.
Might be worth noting that if they un-install it instead of just disable windows will re-install the driver, so just disabling it is the best method.

Noted here http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1099235-relzbeta-weather-all-natural-thread-25/page__view__findpost__p__16136999

Trooperdx mentions that his particular device driver does not have an option to disable.

I have seen mention of people with similar problems having to disable the device in the BIOS if they cant disable in device manager.
But cant help that particular user after doing a few searches around the internet. Hoping with the info he has he would widen his research to machine specific
rather than going off topic so much on an un-related thread.

I dont think it is an easy topic to search for within these forums. The link mentioned within that topic leads to...
http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/561101-unofficial-technical-faq/

Article 4.19 there.

Which mentions cheat console combined with windows media centre, further gives links to ...
http://vgstrategies.about.com/od/pccheatst/a/OblivionMediaPC.htm

and the microsoft knowledge base article...
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927824/en

Though that last starts with "When you connect a USB keyboard..."

The whole problem needs a better searchable title, like "Console Problems - Tilde ~ key does not work"

Of course, sure. I'll add it to the CPS Library. After I get the settings page straight, I will be able to take requests for more content. Porting the BAIN guide should not be a problem now that the rest of the information on the site is basically up-to-date. It is garbage cleanup time.

Edit: Crash on attack, insufficient hardware, OBGEv2 error, CPU list, GPU list

plugin C:\Games\Morroblivion\Oblivion\Data\OBSE\Plugins\\OBGEv2.dll (00000001 OBGEv2 00000003) reported as incompatible during query

Hey, that's nice!
I've been posting on the PyFFI thread and the reasons for this are explained there.

  • Unpack Oblivion - Meshes.bsa to e:\optimized
  • Copy e:\optimized\meshes\characters folder to a safe place outside e:\optimized
  • python.exe scripts\niftoaster.py --jobs=4 --noninteractive --skip="helmet hood nightmotherstatuebase roothavok" optimize e:\optimized > e:\optimized\PyFFI_log.txt
  • python.exe scripts\niftoaster.py --jobs=4 --noninteractive --only=_far modify_makefarnif --exclude=NiSourceTexture e:\optimized > e:\optimized\PyFFI_log_far.txt
  • Copy original "characters" folder to e:\optimized\meshes (this restores the original "characters" folder, along with hairs and other things PyFFI should not touch).
  • Pack e:\optimized directory to bsa.

This method does give a few false positives. The helmet_gnd.nif files can be optimized without harm. If you want to do them, after step 3. then do this:
  • python.exe scripts\niftoaster.py --jobs=4 --noninteractive --only="helmet_gnd" optimize e:\optimized >> e:\optimized\PyFFI_log.txt

Don't forget the logs - if you don't want to pack them into the bsa just delete them. Compressing them with 7z reduces file size immensely since it's text.

I really appreciate these updates.

Thank you very much.

I believe this is already on the site, but making the solution for Fran's items missing meshes a bit more prominent could help a lot of people.

I have the latest (steam version) GOTY patched with UOP and supplemental, etc... The solution of adding Fran's items bsa to my ini file fixed all of my missing mesh issues (narrowed the issue to Fran's using FormID finder).

I believe it's really only Fran's among the popular downloaded bsas that requires this type of addition? If not, it would probably be good to make a list of the bsa files most people should consider adding to their ini if their game is patched to 1.2+.

Thanks again for the awesome site and consistently thoughtful advice! :)

hey tomlong,

i am reading all of your newest oblivion mod faq site carefully (thank you for creating it, by the way!). i have a question re: the install order you post here: http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/installmods

under "What is the order in which these mods need to be installed?" you list 19 different categories, with overhauls and creatre add ons being category 10.

i am going to take another shot at an oblivion-fcom install this weekend. i have not given any thought to some of the other categories you list as needing to be installed before overhauls like fcom. basically, game tweaks (category 2) companions (category 3), animations (4), mesh replacers (7) quests (9), etc.

instead, i plan to do a basic oblivion + fcom install, testing every step of each fcom component install it to make sure it's working. after a basic fcom install seems to be okay, i will begin conisdering other changes, such as the categories i list above.

will i encounter problems if i install those categories that precede overhauls after my fcom install?

ps- i am pretty certain i'll be eventually installing QTP3, natural landscapes, and nearly everything visible when distant, so it seems i should install these before i begin my fcom install- yes?

thanks

The method suggested on the site is the use of plugin-association loading. This method avoids the character limit of the INI file entries and the extra step of remember to re-add the entries to the list when you have to refresh the INI. Adding an entry to the sArchiveList and plugin-association have the same effect.

If the categories precede overhauls and you notice overlapping files (indicated by red boxes in OBMM) hold down CTRL and click 'No' when prompted to overwrite as the OMOD is activated. That will prevent their files from being overwritten, resulting in the same thing as if you had installed the overhauls later. Make sure to choose 'yes' when installing the later-loading types of course. Also, you should probably use the new site since the old one will no longer be updated.

Install Order - http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/index.php?page=installing_mods#InstallOrder

Thank you for the input all. If you have any more questions (or disagreements), please say so. The site will not improve if no one says anything.

POSItive is just one hell of a site. Seriously, the attention to detail is staggering there on the what to do/not to do. Excellent stuff.

I wonder, is it possible to follow the guide and create a "baseline" version of it where the most important mods, etc, are installed so you can then zip up, give to a friend and have them just install into a new oblivion install?

POSItive is just one hell of a site. Seriously, the attention to detail is staggering there on the what to do/not to do. Excellent stuff.

I wonder, is it possible to follow the guide and create a "baseline" version of it where the most important mods, etc, are installed so you can then zip up, give to a friend and have them just install into a new oblivion install?

As long as we are talking about, for example, you zipping up your Data folder on a flash drive and taking it to your friend's house, sure, haha. Thehttp://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=guides_mod_installation&subpage=complete_installation_guide currently does this for about 30 or so mods. I need to change the format a bit so that it is easier to digest and follow. I will be putting some time into the website today, but I first need to figure out how to do that on Win7. Rebuiding everything has been no easy chore. I need to go find some setup instructions for this new server thing, XAMPP, to get it setup. I can stick to textual changes for now though.

Happy gaming!

Okay, I think I might do a "diary" of sorts for this new build. It probably would probably not be the best newbie reference on the site, but it should, at least, be thorough. If I do try this, I will not start until after I get Better Cities Resource B and All Natural (which I have yet to even get to thanks to my silly internet connection) have been successfully downloaded and sorted in my BAIN package list. The opener will document the status of my starting setup and a brief description of how I got there.

In the meantime, while BC hopefully is downloading, I am trying to make almost all of my 982 BAIN packages clear of skipped files. Fun...right... I have nothing better to do, I like organizing and inconsistencies are irksome.

Let's see... I have been doing way too much to remember what all I had installed, so I am going through my website to help myself along with the rebuild process, haha. I had not installed any OBSE plugins until today. OOhhh, I can get this machine's specs for vanilla Oblivion. That will be sweet.

Test Case I: Vanilla Oblivion (and plus OBSE)

Yay, this thread can finally be cast aside. On to the next phase of TESIV:POSItive... ^____^

Happy gaming all!
