Part II: Before Installing Mods

Might be worth mentioning for Step 6:
Install C++ Runtime Library, OBMM, TESCS, Python 2.6.4, wxpython, ComTypes, PyFFI: Extract those that are contained in archives. Then run each executable.
>> notes: 1) When installing OBMM, leave the check for adding a shortcut to the desktop or quick launch bar. 2) Install Python before any of its dependents (wxpthon, ComTypes, PyFFI, etc.)

If you have an ATI card and installed the latest drivers (including ATI Control Center) you already have the C++ installed as it is installed during the Control Center installation). Or have the user check if it is installed. Maybe even linking the name. May make it a bit more complicated for people not very familiar with their computer though, so may not be worth mentioning this. Just an opinion.

You may want to link the Python installation to the python file available in the Wry Bash download http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22368 on Tesnexus that has an installer with all the components in 1 file.

The link for the actual PyFFI on the linked page can be easy to miss "Get PyFFI from Sourceforge, or install it with" Yeah, I know, read the page, but I missed the darn thing and just looked around for other links that take you directly to the Sourceforge page to download it.

If I missed these in other parts of the guide my apologies. Suggestions only.

Install BOSS:
Move the main BOSS archive to the Data ("Oblivion\Data") folder
Choose "7-zip">"extract here"
(Win 7 and Vista x64) Move the DLLs to the "WINDOWS\SysWOW64" folder and extract them there.
(Win 32-bit) Move the DLLs to the "WINDOWS\System32" folder and extract them there.
>> note: These "WINDOWS" folder is first-level on the hard drive.

I just extracted the latest BOSS archive and there were no dlls. Latest version does not require any external libraries now. This may also mean that you do not need C++ installed.

REQUIREMENTS:

Windows (or Wine), Oblivion, some mods.

I'll tell you, with all the rapid changes it may be some work to keep the pages updated.

To install TES4Edit, TES4Files, TES4Gecko, TES4LODGen, Wrye Bash:
Create a new folder "Utilities" in the Oblivion folder
Move all of the archives to the Oblivion\Utilities folder

Inside the Utilities folder, rename the TES4Gecko folder "TES4Gecko"

My apologies for the seperate posts. For the above and my Windows 7 installation 64 bit:
You need Java downloaded for TES4Gecko

For TES4Edit you will get this error and need to download it and install it (at least on a fresh installation of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

Important:
If you get an error about d3dx9_*.dll not being installed, you need to update your DirectX to the most current version.

The most current (March 2008) version can be found here:
DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer
or here:
DirectX End-User Runtimes Redistributable (make sure to install it after unpacking it).

Wrye Bash should not be in Utilities and not extracted there. Should be moved to and extracted in \Oblivion folder otherwise you must manually move it.

Yes, thank you for pointing that out. I am getting mixed up moving instructions to the restructured pages. I will update that. Still, use the "edit" button instead of triple-posting next time...make that five times in-a-row posting.

Edit: I thought about the source forge thing for PyFFI. I had opted for that link so that people could see the docs and whatnot. I will add a second link or something maybe, or I will just give directions for finding the download. Going straight to the download misses the PyFFI site information. I already updated the BOSS DLLs thing. However, I will ad the note about DirectX and the C++ run time library. I thought that had been up there already. It does not hurt for people to try install it (in the case that they do have it.)

Edit: I do not see anything about the run-time library update on the BOSS thread opening post anymore.

Edit: Thank you for all of your suggestions Peter ID. I am going to do my thread running rounds now, but I will get to the updates in a moment.

Edit: I have a problems page about the directX error, and I am not sure where to put it in the main piece I am working on now, so I will just leave it there for now. I can link that library at the bottom of the pages concerned with the relevant utilities, however.

I am looking over yout FCOM BAIN install and figure I will try starting on it tonight. Couple comments:

Your load order has Loth's Blunt weapons and Bob's Armory before Frans which is differnet than the suggested load order by Corpec:

Loading the MMM.bsa, the OBMM installer has FCOM_Convergence.exp loading it. Does not really matter but that seems to be the common loader which may confuse some people.

I have always been unclear about that an only ever used the USIP MOBS 1-4

The plugins have the same name, so you could not do that anyway. Use the "_FCOM" version if you are not using Fran's SI option.

I do not know what load order you are talking about. I do not have an FCOM load order posted on the site, but I have links to some correct load orders. What is the discrepancy you are concerned with? I can tell you after having spent quite some time with my 700+ BAIN package list, that the overhauls installation order on my setup is correct.

From what I gather from the MMM thread is that the order listed there needs to be followed. But for people who are not as familiar with it, it may be confusing since the list above shows a differnet order. Am I making sense?

The only things out of order are the new item-adding mods. That is fine. I think that my installation guide is more comprehensive. That is a fine recommended installation for full FCOM with some other mods. I do not think users will become confused. The new users would be walking through the guide, and the more experienced users should not be confused because of their understanding of the mods' contents.

OOO+MMM+Graphic Overhaul, Albertized

Average play time before crash: 1-2 hours, more if not moving through many new cells/areas. Have nearly 100 hours invested into a character, experienced a large portion of MMM and OOO improvements. Most of my play sessions do not crash at all - occasionally I can have the game running (though not necessarily constantly playing) for five-six hours straight without experiencing a crash at all.

Sys. Specs:
  • 2.83 Intel Quad Core
  • Nvidia GTX 275
  • 8GB System RAM
  • Windows 7 Home

OBSE Plugins: Pluggy, Oblivion Stutter Remover, Elys Voice mod, Vampire Race Remover, FastExit

Average FPS: Well above 40-70+ in most areas except cities, where it gets down to 10-30 depending on how many NPC's are in the area. Stuttering while textures/objects load in large areas. Have actor fade turned down to 50% because NPC's cause a large CPU load. FPS seemed to have been greatly helped by Oblivion Stutter Remover, the 4gb Oblivion.exe patch, and Streamline's Streampurge/streamsave.

This load order is something I've been slowly adding to for a month and a half. Basically, I sought to combine MMM and OOO, and then add graphic mods for scenery on top of that. I began with a fresh install and a step-by-step very slow process to make sure everything was installed in the right order - thanks to Tomlong for walking me through the process. Works beautifully - the game's a blast and I'm severely addicted. No, seriously. I need help. Oblivicrack.

Mod issues: So far these mods all work fine, though I have yet to really plunge into Kragenir's new content or mess around too much with Ren's guard overhaul. The only issues I've had was a weird repetitive crash when trying to loot stolen gold cups from a cupboard in my house. http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/xx210/Atarb/Oblivion193.jpg After uninstalling enhanced economy and reinstalling Living Economy, the problem was gone. Also, the panting effect and some other effects of Realistic Fatigue didn't work, so I disabled that.

Edit: Before I post your load order, did BOSS place those mods loading after SL there? I am sure OMOBS belongs up higher. The backpacks mod should be in the new items section, which in your load order would be...after Crowded Roads is fine. Put the Oblivifall mod right in front of (loading before) Stealth Overhaul. You only need to manually move those plugins if BOSS does not do it automatically. If it does not, please report them (with links) in the BOSS thread.

The more I read and try out, the more sense it makes. For someone who never done this before, well, you could write pages to teach the concept. I think it is good for someone with at least a bit of knowledge.

I updated the page? What distand LOD mod are you using, exactly? If you left the numbers on the end of the archive in BAIN, right-click on the package in the Installers Tab and choose "Open at TESNexus."

Well you asked , and I said when I finished the Main Quest with this Build! 80 Hour save Game. Now the Gates are all closed I can have some Fun.

Load includes Survival in the Form of Simple Essentials W/ shads Water Buckets. Covers Hunger, Thirst, Sleep. Have My camping Gear. Also a sailboat (CLS-Sailboats-COBL). A Journal is esential, (Kyoma's Journal Mod) Magic mods include, SM toped with LAME,Also this is an FCOM Build. So plenty to Do and See. Land is Growing at Present have, Blackmarsh. Valenwood/Elsweyr Anequina, Summerset Isle, ON Onra's Height Maps.

Stability: FPS is Caped By OSR @30 Most of the time this is what I get. Slow down with 20 or so in Combat. Outside 20-30 ish. Depends on area, UL landscape or not. Unfortantly IN anvil I get about 10 FPS with Better cities there. Looks to good to Give up. I don't Crash there Just Slow.
Game sessions Last from 2-5 hours. Average 2.5 Hrs I usually Exit.
4 Gig Patch all Sliders in Game menu at max with Large Textures.(Except Shadows 2 and 2 i think)

Things still to Do: Add fast Exit2, Add in some Quests Now that I have Completed the Main Quest With this Build. Add Some Companions. Get new Video Card so i can Crank up more settings.

And last but not least, a Question.
