Hello, I got on TESnexus earlier. It seems that an advertisemant has been converted into a virus for the whole webpage. Any idea when they'll fix this? And will they be ensuring that this doesn't happen again? After all it has happenned before.

You're going to have to be way more specific than that. First of all: I'm not seeing anything malicious on TESNexus myself, and my system's clean. Then again, I also have NoScript and AdBlock--so I don't see any ads on TESNexus at all, much less malicious ones. I also don't see any recent, verified complaints on their forums...

Have you tried contacting the TESNexus modmins directly, preferably with a screenshot and/or URL of the offending advertisemant? And are you absolutely, 100% certain the problem isn't spyware or adware on your end?

It hasn't been updated since the 18th of December, and at that time it looks like there may have been a few bad ads served up. Can't tell if they're still active or not. If they are, what I said about forwarding the information to the administrators still stands.

I've encountered what Spiderpid is talking about. When I first go to Nexus and click on something (literally anything), an add appears. Usually, it's for some old game (like Pac-man), but sometimes I get redirected to another url advertising about a "local mom" that makes $379/day working from home. That particular "news flash" is a scam that's been going around for at least a year.


I sent PMs to Buddah and DarkOne. I got a reply from Buddah, saying he would add DarkOne to the conversation so he could "have a look and see if anything was amiss." Haven't heard anything since.


It's not on Spiderpig's end or mine. My PC is spyware/addware free.

This is what they call pop-up advertising. Yes, it's annoying. No, it's not directly malicious. If you're stupid enough to believe in the 'local mom' stuff, then you deserve whatever mess you end up in. The whole point of advertising is to get people to spend money on things they otherwise wouldn't.

I for one use AdBlock, but had previously set it to be inactive on TES Nexus, but now that the pop-up ads have made simply navigating the site a pain, I've removed it from my whitelist. I do understand that TES Nexus needs the ads to stay online, but when they impede my browsing directly is where I draw the line. I've been considering becoming a premium member instead, but I'll need to wait a bit to see if my finances can handle it.

I get the same annoying adds when I am there TRYING TO UPLOADING VALUABLE CONTENT TO THEIR SITE!

I had in the past given them over 50 mods (hundreds of hours of work) exclusively (just their site no other) to support them and their way of running the site.

They were once the best site on the net, I spent a LOT of time there in the last 4 years. I am finding it difficult to do so now.
They had adds before that were not annoying in the way they were presented. Just look to Hulu to see a good example of tolerable but profitable adds on a web page.

I am an industrialist - manufacture - libertarian - capitalist, so I do believe that they (anyone) has a right to make a buck how they see fit as long as they do not lie to their patrons in anyway.

And I have a right not to use their site as much as I would otherwise have liked to especially when there are great alternatives sites now.
So just voice your opinion with your mouse and either go to their site because it is still worth it or else go elsewhere. If they get users they will survive, if they do not they will CHANGE their ways or go out of business.

THAT is what "true" competition and a free market is all about.

No idea whats wrong with TesNexus but something is wrong !
I don’t see any strange adds but I cant download anything at the moment.

I hat problems downloading stuff from Nexus last night, but now i can download just fine again. As for the ads...i am using Request Policy and Adblock Plus so i do not see those ads.

To be fair, it stops being a "free" site if it only functions reasonably well for people who give the owner(s) money. TESNexus is intended to be a free site, last I checked; subscribers get benefits, sure, but basic use of the site is free. So, if the ads are so excessive that the site's functionality is lost to people who haven't paid, then that's going to provoke a lot of logically justified complaints.

Also to be fair, not everyone can afford a subscription, and you touting your good fortune is probably not going to change that, or get anyone on your side.

Furthermore, it would be to the detriment of the modding community if the larger majority who don't have a subscription lost their access to downloading mods. One of the foremost reasons modders host at Nexus is for the enormous site traffic. Take that away, and there will be plenty of modders who decide Nexus doesn't offer anything over other hosting sites. Take the mods away, and there go the users (subscribers and otherwise), too.

To draw that point out one more step, there are plenty of modders who are not subscribers, also. They are already contributing to the site by uploading popular mods that keep the traffic coming in. Asking them to pay or lose basic site functionality would be shooting oneself in the foot for any modding site owner (refer to my previous point).

I believe Khettienna has described the situation well. I too support the Oblivion community (and, at present, TES Nexus)--by providing mods that took hundreds of hours to create. Like spookyfx.com, the situation with increasingly aggressive ads, and now scammish popups, is at the limits of my tolerance. Some have said they "solved" this with additional software. My experience is that any additional popup blocking must be disabled in order to upload a file, add a comment, etc. I'm deciding whether I should just move my mods elsewhere.

Complaining here won't get the problem looked at or resolved, there is already a thread about this where others have posted their concerns. Many other non premium members are not having issues, so perhaps the problems you are encountering are not site related. Read through the thread and see if there is a solution for your particular issues or if it is something that needs looking into let the staff know.

Now I have checked with various browsers and once I log into the file site with any of them, I do not see the pop up again. If you are not logged into the file site you will get it on every page load as no cookie is set !
