TESO is just another MMO.

I know, that isn't saying much. But I still feel massively let down.

I could tell this was the case after a few minutes in game, there is nothing special here. The jumping mechanic feels bad, the combat is nothing new, the animations in general are all 'average'. The questing system is regurgitated from a decade past, just like every other mmo. The story is the same run of the mill, unbelievable and utterly predictable filler with the smell of the elder scrolls sprayed over it. I probably don't even need to play the PVP to know what it'll be like, because I've already played something close enough in the past 5 mmos I have touched, haven't I?

I don't want to hear anything about how the game is totally going to morph into the best thing ever at the level cap. You all know damn well that isn't the case, it doesn't take psychic powers to see there is nothing revolutionary in store. Don't misunderstand me, the game might turn out to be a pleasant mmo. But that's it. Pleasant. I might be less annoyed if it at least felt like a polished, well rounded, first class product, but it doesn't even feel worthy of the subscription payment model.

There's perhaps nothing terribly wrong with all of that in the eyes of most, but I personally am done with this garbage. I am no longer an easily captivated 13 year old who has never experienced the miracle of the mmo hamster wheel. I wanted a triple A, visionary, risky, genre redefining game from the elder scrolls online. What I got was a conservative cash grab..

This game will probably be quite profitable because of the popularity of the unique and interesting single player titles before it, and because there are still people who do not feel the typical mmo is a stale and dated format, and that disgusts me.

To the devs, I hope you are proud of what you have made and continue to put in your best effort for those who do enjoy this game. I am not blaming anyone who worked on the game for how it has turned out, it is clear that the entire underlying design of the game is vastly different from what I hoped for. This is just my feedback.

tl;dr this game is not amazing so I am pissed

I had hoped this too but not exactly genre redefining - in mmorpg terms - I had hoped it would get something from ultima, shadowbane, 4th Coming, lineage style of mmorpgs.

That's the style which I believed would suit the TES series online counterpart. The opposite of the "railroaded" style which all the latest mmorpgs seem to follow.

If I were you, I wouldn't judge the PvP before I had tried it. The zone of Cyrodiil is quite possibly this game's saving grace. It's definitely a cut above the instanced battlegrounds we see in other MMOs.

Could you go into some actual detail on this? Many people seem to want this mythical "new genre". I'd like for one of those people to describe to me what they actually want out of that basic idea.

Having the urge to make south park joke now, but I would probably get another warning point (after the last one with that that child-killing mod for Skyrim) from it.

I think Destiny is for you. This will just be another MMO, allthough I quite like it.

But where ESO never looked like it was going to revolutionize anything (at least for me) , Destiny looks like it will revolutionize everything (for the whole gaming world). So All i can say to you is dont get too pissed off, there will be other single player ES games, and look into destiny, it might appease your dissapointment . cheers.

At least you realize its an MMO.

That's all I want. A new MMO that's fun to play. I got that here.

Repopulation, for example, seems to be willing to take these "risks", as well as some other upcoming mmorpgs. You will see in time.

Hell no

"You will see in time" isn't the answer I'm looking for.

I want specifics.

I gave you an example, from there on make your search and find the rest. I do not remember all the upcoming titles anyway. The "you will see in time" (except that it sounds cool and mystical) means that if these upcoming mmorpgs succeed (which I bet they will), they will redefine the genre.

I haven't seen anything that would put this game's pvp ahead of Warhammer / Daoc / EVE (not even close) / Darkfall. What have you seen that makes it so? A link to an article would be fine, i know you can't break the nda.

Really can't discuss the nitty gritty because of the nda except to say that pvp appears to be designed to appeal to zergers and large guilds.

You lumped quite a few games together, there. It's not "better" than EVE or DAoC, but neither of those had "instanced battlegrounds", which was my point of reference. Both of those games have PvP zones, not instanced battlegrounds.

I'd say this game is perhaps not as good as either of those games with regards to PvP, but is better than the instanced battlegrounds/warzones we see in theme parks like WoW, Warhammer, SW:ToR, and Guild Wars 2 (and I include GW2's RvR zone in that.) I'd also say the Cyrodiil zone is a cut above most open-world PvP where there is no objectives at all, but instead just random killing for the fun of it (which is only entertaining for so long before it gets old.)

yeah there is nothing really new in it this I have to agree with but at the same time there is just enough of the old mixed together to grab my attention. now all that remains to be seen is which way the focus goes PVE -----------PVP depending on which way the bar leans towards will determine my future with the game

It is large group content, but that doesn't mean it has to only appeal to guilds. In my short experience with the game, I saw raid leaders quickly accommodating anyone who was interested in joining in on the raids. It's true that you can't take a Keep solo, but that doesn't mean there aren't things for a solo player/small group to do. As you say, though, NDA prevents us from having a proper conversation about those elements.
