It depends on what numbers are in their business model and whether those numbers are realistic or not - far too many firms seem to think that WoW wasn't a one-off.

Then please, prove how right you are by going and building your own game. Until then stand up for the oppressed gamers out there and keep your money in your bank account.
I almost always buy a CE because I choose to do so. Sometimes I even buy something from 'the company store', for the same reasons I occasionally go out to a nice restaurant and order something pricier than normal. Why? Because sometimes I feel like treating myself.
I don't know why a game company should feel guilty about providing me an opportunity to spend more money. The restaurants never seem to care, and I doubt I'll find any posts by you 'calling them out' for being greedy capitalistic pigs.
I don't see anything wrong with a cash shop. It's up to the player to decide if they want to partake.
So they're going to release directly with a cash shop too?
Can we get ingame money with real money, like gem system in GW2? What do you think?
exactly, I really do not care for shop if I can play game and have a lot of fun.
Good games do not bag for money - they take what they need to provide best content. WoW goes dead and can go F2P also, I do not care.
Not directly, might be possible to do indirectly if some cash shop pet or mount is not locked to account.
Probably an bad idea as the exchange rate from the $ you spend to the gold you get in an guild shop will be terrible. Most people who want it hard will buy it and the ones browsing an guild store will probably not be willing to pay much.
On the other hand we don't know how the economy will be, Runescape was wild here, some rare vanity items sold for insane amounts, far more than many set of the top gear.
Full set of daeric armor 100.000 gold, yellow party had 2 mill. Green 5 mill.
Items in a "cash shop" such as buying a new emote, changing char name or servers, buying the CE, I'm fine with all that. It's when they start selling exp increases, mounts, etc that I'll end my subscription on principle.
i'm gonna p2w the [censored] out of this game cuz i got the money and worked hard for it
it is a bit different - games that sell exp increases, mounts, armor enhancements are called F2P, there is no game that charges these items and still is P2P.
Your sentence is like If they want cars of brand X to be charged and same time I need to pay again monthly then I will not buy those - I could only agree, but by saying this way it makes you look strange.
To be honest I've little idea what you're trying to say. The anology is pretty bad. Feel free to try again.
For someone who doesn't like it, you sure seem to be defending their actions @ every turn. It's because of the fools falling for this kind of stuff why this practice is still even happening. I liked gaming so much better when only nerds played. Atleast they were intelligent enough to know when they got ripped off and didn't support this kind of BS. But whatever, enjoy your game.
hahaha I love it.
*poke* *poke* *poke* hornets nest.
I didn't tead whole topic but I bet someone already said that.
WoW has cash shop as well and you can upgrade from standard to collectors edition there as well, no big deal.
As long as they will sell, mounts, pets or skins it'll be fine.
What wories me though is tha Imperial race. If that will go as a purchasable "item" in store then it's a bad move from Zenimax.
I'm OK with it being a bonus for people who pre-ordered CE, but if they will put it in the shop that means they locking players away from content in subscription based game and that just stinks.
As far as we know there is no Cash Shop in the game. [I say this because it is something we cannot answer at this time without resorting to opinion as there is no official statement on what occurs as far as cash transactions are concerned that change in game content]
Selling the exclusive content in a the Imperial Edition as a pre order Special Edition pack is NOT a cash shop. It is a pre game special edition which all MMOs do to some extent. There are 4 versions of the game that can be purchased. Two of the four have 1 tier of content the other two have a different tier of content. You could just as easily say the Imperial Edition is the default package and the standard one is the discount version. Either way it is tiered content and provides a level of choice and variety to the customer based upon what they want vs what they can afford. This is reasonable and normal within the industry.
Continuing to sell that content after the game releases as a way to upgrade the standard edition to an advanced edition is to some extent a cash shop as it is something you can acquire by paying for it while the game is active. Of course ZeniMax is claiming this is just a way to provide the Special Edition for those that buy the game after release or change their mind as to what version they want. I am not happy with this as I would prefer it was limited to pre-orders of the edition. I would also like a facility to refund the difference for Imperial Edition customers who express a desire to downgrade.
If once the game is running they continue to sell in game content that changes the game-play for some and not others then that would equate to a Cash Shop in the game. But only once the game is running. As the game is not yet running and there is no firm statement from ZeniMax on this situation we cannot say for certain at this time that there is any cash shop facility. We can only provide opinion & speculate.
Hurray for the cash shop, if we want a good game with the amazing support and content roll outs that ESO boasts then ESO has got to shake it's perverbial booty and make some money! This game is afterall a capitalist enterprise albeit made by folks who enjoy gaming and seems to be a game for/ by gamers.
I plan on making ESO one of my major game focuses and don't mind spending the money if I feel it's a) fun more fun c) fun d) fun e) not bad f) and is fun
I've retired from WoW because it svcks now and I hope to get a few good years of gaming out of this game so the money that I spend on it will not seem to be a detractor for me.
If it turns out that I absolutely hate the game and it becomes boring and not fun . . . ZOS won't get another cent from me.
it does not make sense to try again - I'm not a teacher for you, the anology makes as much sense as your first sentence - looks just naive when taken on some other case.
Again, I'm not entirely sure what it is you're trying to say. Sorry. :/
I hate microtransaction stores, or any kind of Pay to win feature, However, All games have preorder or collectors editions rewards on initial release, And im completely fine with this as long as none of the features ruin game play for others or give that individual a massive advantage... in this case, a pet or a horse with the exact same stats and speed as available in-game items is fine. So what, some people will have a map of all the x items bla bla bla... that is gonna be uploaded by some person day 1 hour 1 of release... now if TESO tries selling in-game item sets/weapons with stats that are above average I will quickly quit playing.
I have seen an info that horse in pre-order is only how horse looks like, you will need to buy it same as all others players. Also those special abilities of imperials - they are probably almost useless as all other racial abilities - but there is NDA and nobody tells.
The second - yes, they can not have two worlds (sub and game shop for game items) same time - initially I was even not understanding what people say, but it would be like charging same thing twice in shop (so they want cash and put a credit on you).
I don't think that is the case for three reasons:
1# the text on the Imperial Edition states:
IMPERIAL WHITE HORSE. Summon this Imperial mount and journey through Tamriel with increased speed.
And its hard to summon something if you have to buy it first. This would be very misleading if it was the case.
#2 It directly refers to it a horse not as a costume for a horse
#3 It is VERY common for a steed or vehicle to be included in a Pre-order or Special Edition bonus.
And they deserve the money for their hard work!
well, yes, but it just read something that could not be true and it indeed could reverse hit those that have CE, but it would be strange to allow having horse immediately at start, just will see soon.
Haven't heard anythign about having to buy it if you have the CE. I have heard it still has the same restrictions as any other mount (level required).
