TESV Acceleration Layer, thread 5

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 5:37 am

I'm not trying to get off topic, I just want to throw something out there. SkyBoost and TESVAL ARE compatible. In fact, I use TESVAL 3 and SkyBoost r3 together. I used to get a few more FPS with SkyBoost over TESVAL. With TESVAL I didn't get the stuttering SB gave me. I thought, "Why not try both, the worst that could happen is a CTD or weird glitches." Back up my saves, tried it. I get MORE FPS and NO stuttering when I use both. Just letting you know...

I would not place a bet on much more, though I am hopeful, but what this does is basically streamline the way the data is fed to the cpu, for example my game has always used around 50% cpu, after installing this I got a considerable boost in fps but cpu still remains at around 50%, think of the entry to the cpu as a narrow gate, this mod lines up the code in an orderly fashion to get through the gate.

This is interesting. I'm glad that both are helping you.

SkyBoost doesn't work for me, lots of random instant CTDs, delayed actions, character stopped moving, moving back to TESVAL everything running smooth with no glitches.

You might want to put your post in the SkyBoost thread, this is the TESVAL thread.

I already have a tag on this thread for SKSE. What other tags should I be using when I start the next thread?

FPS, framerate, cpu, REL, POC.

EDIT: Let's try some punctuation this time! :P

Ok:

SKSE, TESVAL, FPS, framerate, cpu, REL, POC, plugin (with punctuation)

Does that about cover it? By the way, what does POC mean?

REL is a terrible tag, we only ever used RELz, REQz and WIPz to allow searching without overly-long topic lines (search text had to be 4+ characters, thus the 'z'). Tags are their own separate thing, with none of those issues. For the sake of decency, I beg you: spell out the word Release!

POC is probably not very useful. The rest are good. I would add Skyrim, since the search can be forum-global.

And this is exactly why I am asking for suggestions. My next question is should I limit the number of tags I use?

It's hard-limited at 10. I like to leave some open slots so if later on I think of something important, I don't have to fret over what to trim. But that's just me... no compelling reason not to fill the line! Only the first few show up in the forum index, tho, so put the most important ones in front.

What about a [RELz] in the title? While it was implemented as a workaround it's a handy visual for easily spotting releases.

Ehh... I've mistaken REQz for RELz more times than I can count, and the former is far more common right now on the Skyrim boards. The moment tags showed up, I dumped the old tradition completely. Not that it actually matters one way or the other, so don't count this as a vote against; just outspoken apathy. ;)

FWIW - Ian and I decided to keep the WIPz/RELz in the title for SKSE for a very similar reason - it is a bit more obvious than the tags in many cases.

I'm not sure this is a WIPZ anymore. I haven't seen any recent discussions in this thread from anyone who plans to do any additional work on this.

You don't need the z anymore because everyone wraps them in brackets so [REL] is 5 characters and easily searchable.

I don't know if this has been reported, I remember seeing sync issues in the early threads.
I started a troubleshooting thread, and had forgotten about tesval.

With tesval, interactive objects, like doors, chests or puzzle pillars only animate and activate when the are on-screen. I can even click to open a chest, swing the camera away, and not actually get the inventory screen until i look back at the chest.
