TESV Acceleration Layer, thread 5

Didn't work for me, unfortunately :( But congrats to the programmer and those who got performance improved!
Also, where were you testing? I don't see any difference in caves/wilderness but I get much less stutter in Whiterun and other CPU heavy areas.

Is this why Firefox keeps popping up little messages saying it's using too much memory? 300 mb or so? Not like I care with 4 GB and nothing but the browser open.
No... He's saying that's what's happening when the Mozilla staff tries to compile Firefox (compiling Firefox requires significantly more memory than running it).

That popup is probably from some monitoring program installed on your computer, or from a Firefox plugin you've installed. I know AVG lets me know when Firefox uses around that much memory.

did you check in the skse.log file if is actually loaded correctly. seems a fairly big chunk of people who reported no improvements had it not load for some reason or other....

Yep, and Ian explained why they are. I guess PGO compiling is super-intense beyond what I'm used to dealing with. Though I would have thought the codebase for Skyrim would be considerably larger.

I installed this as the instructions in the readme state (TESVAL.dll in the SKSE>plugins folder) and am launching SKSE (latest version 1_04_02) from Nexus Mod Manager 0.12.18. The game menu loads properly, but my most recent save game crashes when I try to load it. I am able to load the 2nd most recent save game, but now my game is crashing after a few minutes, when it hadn't been before.

I did remove the skyrim4gb.exe and skyrim4gb_helper.dll prior to installing this (I hadn't been using them since the recent official patch enabled the game to use 4gb but hadn't removed those two files from the skyrim folder until recently).

PS- I am using these mods:
Enhanced Blood Main.esp
DragonboneWeightReductionv1.2.esp
PickaxeWeightReductionv1.2.esp
SkyUI v1.1

Unless I am overlooking something, I think I followed the install instructions, so any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Oh, sorry for the short previous post. Yes, I checked the plugin was loaded in skse log.

Strange, I tried this on four computers and it worked on every one. What are your specs?
It's a Dell XPS 15. 4GB RAM, Intel i7 740 1'73GHz and Nvidia Geforce 435M (1GB).

I tested it in Thieves Guild and Dragonreach. Exactly the same fps both. Didn't try elsewhere but I'll give it a go this evening.

Thanks for asking! :)

With that GPU you would probably have to turn off anti aliasing (or use http://mrhaandi.blogspot.com/p/injectsmaa.html/FXAA instead) and reduce the shadow quality to reduce the load on the GPU. Otherwise you will most likely be at the GPU-limit at all times, so improving CPU performance will not help. You can test this by installing http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm (works with all brands), just play a bit and check the GPU usage graph (or use the included OSD). I'd wager you never get under 99% GPU usage, meaning your GPU is the one holding your system back, not the CPU - which this mod optimizes.

Yeah the TESV works great and gives me a solid 60 FPS in CPU bound areas where as before it was like 40-50 FPS. Only problem I have is the game crashes a lot especially on loading save, so unfortunately I can't use this MOD until stability improves. Some screens of the FPS I have with TESV off and with it on.

Interesting, I always thought the problem was my CPU. Well, actually I have antialias off (I don't use antialias when I have 1080 resolution) and I think my shadow quality is set to low, but I'll check when I come back from work. I'll try that Afterburner as well.

Thanks a lot

I have the same problem. I have no difference at all before and after using TESVAL or SkyBoost. :(

I'm using a Dell XPS17 L702x, GT 555M 3GB, 8GB RAM, i7-2760QM 2.40GHz, 1600x900.

The point I'm using to check is at the top of Whiterun, looking at the tree (lol). I get 31-32 FPS always, independently of which mod I'm using or even if I'm using a mod or not. I will try the Afterburner that was recommended before now to see if something happens.

UPDATE: My GPU is working at its top... so I guess I'll have to play with my actual FPS rates :(
UPDATE 2: I don't know why I had the shadow detail at high, I set it on low and now I'm having 39-40 FPS at the same spot. I don't know if that happened because the shadow detail uses a lot of the GPU, because the mod is acting like a charm or both reasons... anyway, I'm really glad now :D

You're sure the crashing is specifically caused by TESVAL?

Are you using Version 2 or higher found on Nexus?

Is your computer stable when running programs like Prime95 and OCCT?

Crashing could also occur if you are using a foreign version of the game (my guess is russian or japanese), a pirated/cracked copy, or another mod which modifies the game executable.

Please, developers make TESAL compatible with SSE processors, not just SSE2.
Yes, it is possible to play Skyrim on Athlon xp 3 ghz processors which are only SSE compatible.

Is anyone able to successfully run TESVAL along side the FXAA Post Process Injector mod? When I have the FXAA Post Process injector installed and try to run Skyrim with the skse_loader.exe, all I get is a black screen.

TESVAL works fine as long as the FXAA Post Process Injector files are not present in my Skyrim directory.

I love the performance increase I get with TESVAL but I can't stomach the color palatte of the game without the FXAA Post Process injector.

Is TESVAL the only SKSE plugin you are using?

It sounds like the problem might be with SKSE, not absolutely sure though.

The link for the SKSE thread is here:

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1321294-wipz-skyrim-script-extender-skse/

The developers of SKSE would be better able to determine if it is SKSE or TESVAL and offer help with figuring out how to solve this.

I had no trouble loading the FXAA injectors with SKSE. When you load it, are you getting any sound at all? What happens when you press the toggle switch for the FXAA injector(default pause button)?

Should I post this question in the SKSE forum? If not, bumping it here.

Does disabling TESVAL let you load the save? Neither SKSE nor TESVAL should cause that behavior.

I'm not at my computer to test now, but I don't remember hearing anything and the toggle didn't elicit any response. I'll try again when I get home tonight.
