TESV and Steam

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 4:08 am

I haven't seen a similiar topic here, so i'm gonna make one.
As you might know, Fallout: New Vegas will use steam for achievements, friends, etc. That means, TESV will possibly also use Steam for the same things.

Do you want TESV on Steam? Why?

My answer is yes, because i've already used steam for many things, such as buying games, pre-ordering, etc.. I also have a lot of friends in there.

Yes. I love Steam. It's so much easier that way. I don't have to worry about losing a disc, putting a disc in, the disc getting scratched. It's a major stress reliever. :)

Only if it's mod-friendly.

I do not want TES V on steam. It is best to have a physical copy of the game.

Voted no. I like to have the physical copy of things (cd's, games, dvd's). Also because I want to get the collectors edition.

I agree with the physical copy of a game, but I wouldn't mind it if TES V was on Steam.

My vote goes to yes because I don't see any reason for TES V not to be on Steam, even though I would never use Steam.

No, if you buy a single player game in retail, you shouldn't be forced to use an online activation to play the game.

To those who say no: Why not? You could still go buy the physical copy. :P

Oh, I only voted no because I though he was asking if we would buy it on steam. It's not like I think it shouldn't be on Steam.

Only if I wasn't forced to run steam whenever I start the game and it doesn't affect mod support.

I take back what I said earlier. I think it is fine to have on steam if BS thinks it will sell there.

Hello! We have a whole section almost exclusively dedicated to people answering that with Fallout New Vegas' thread on it. ^_^

My vote: No.

I expect it will be sold on Steam and see no reason why it shouldn't be.
I'd be annoyed if it affects mods adversely or if TES V requires online activation although I hope to have the PCs in this house set up as a wireless network by the time its out.

The physical copy would still require Steam, which would still require a single player game to go online at least once. And that's insane.

I have both Oblivion and Fallout 3 on Steam and neither worked that way, I think if it works the way that those two games did, why say no? Someone out there would want it on Steam.

EDIT: I can understand why people would say no if it worked the way New Vegas is supposed to work. (Although I'm getting it on Steam anyways).

Oh, I thought the OP meant like it currently is with Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3. You have a choice between the disc and steam version, and neither interact with each other. Still, I don't see the big deal with online activation if I can install it as many times as I want, as I sometimes need to install it more than three times/

Depends. I would prefer a physical copy that doesn't rely on Steam at all, in which case I wouldn't mind if a separate Steam version was also available.

If it has to be a Steam game... I'm okay with it as long as it doesn't hinder modding in any way. I'm already using it for others games anyway. From what I've heard about how it's going to work for New Vegas you don't have to keep Steam running to play the game once you've installed it.

Im on the fence.

I do like steam, but am not sure it is the best way to protect a game, esspecially a single player game. It would be good if bethesda actually took hold of steam to do frequent updates like most companies do with it........but if they dont do that, im actaully not for it.

I'm an avid Steam user, and I think features such as the Steamcloud would be quite useful in backing up character saves/mods and transferring them to other computers. However, just for the sake of consistency and wholeness, I'd rather own a physical copy with a nice, thick manual. :)

Pretty much this.
Also, I am on a console.

No, I hate Steam with a passion. Even if there was still a retail copy Steam activation and the associated annoyances would be enough to drive me up the wall.

Being on steam is just another way for the game to make it to many different players. It doesn't mean that there won't be a physical copy for those who want it. I love the digital era and it really won't be long before the physical media is a moot point anyway.

Yeah, Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3 doesn't require Steam, they are just available there for those who prefer to buy games online.

But Fallout: New Vegas will require Steam, no matter from where you buy it, just like Half-Life 2. Half-Life 2 was the game that started the whole online activation business for single player games, and for that I hate it :P
