TESV.exe Now Launiching Steam

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 4:33 am

Why is my question?

There is no reason to run Steam in the background while playing Skyrim. A few weeks backs, I was able to launch Skyrim via the TESV.exe command and there was no steam present.. All of a sudden, Steam launches with the TESV.exe file..

I am pretty much sick of the steam crap.. I own the game.. I should not need steam running to play it..

Respectfully,

Honestly folks, Steam is really great. Check out their new discounts on games.

Check out Deus Ex, 50% off for a new game!

Wait for Christmas and see even better discounts.

Not to nitpick, but you don't own the game. You leased it.

Steam is the game's DRM. Allowing the .exe to run independently was an oversight which the patch fixed. Just minimize it to the system tray and play as usual. The performance effect is negligible to non-existent, and you do not need to stay online either. Also, what Pseron Wyrd said. You didn't buy the program, you bought a license to use it. The times, they are a changin'.

Steam is a good platform to buy games, but not necessarily a good software to run in the background.

The belief that you "own" the game is what causes all this anger at DRM. You don't own the game. You've paid (maybe) for a license to use it. In that license, you've agreed to abide by their use of Steam. So, why be angry at that?

negligible means different things to different people based on what PC you are running. That 5 fps difference between before the patch and after is quite big to me.

If Steam is hurting your budget PC, then you wouldn't even have a PC that could play a game made 6 years ago, let alone Skyrim -.-

nice to say, but the 5 fps difference is quite a bit. the pc is way above the minimum specs listed on the box.
I can say that as far as DRM goes, steam is much better than many other options.

There is no way a program that takes less then 1% of CPU power and less then 1% of memory can give you a 5 FPS decrease. There is something else going on, but it is not Steam that is decreasing your performance.

I could care a less about FPS as I run everything maxed out..

What I do care about is the fact that some other 3rd party crap has to be running to play the game.. That is total [censored]!

These game designers want us wrapped around their farking finger and I have a problem with that..

Yes, Steam is great and I have no issue with "Steam".. Its the privacy crap that concerns me..

Quiet simply, I purchase a game and I play the game without some other 3rd party Delta Hotel getting involved..

Lastly, I get the farking pop up advertisemants that literally makes me want to nuke the steam headquarters.. WTF!

The only reason Steam is running with Skyrim is because they came to some agreement where they can load your screen with advertisemants and such and I am just about sick of the horse poop.

You can disable automatic updates. But if you play any MP game that uses Steams MP servers, you might as well keep automatic update on cause you won't be able to play otherwise. As for SP games you can disable automatic updates. This "patch" for Skyrim is different though, it wasn't really a patch, rather everyone was given the wrong exe file, cause we were all supposed to have the Steamworks enabled EXE file.

It's Steam for crying out loud. If Steam is such an intrusion and tax on your system resources it's time to maybe upgrade the Commodore 64. I mean...

Screw it. You people just want to complain for the sake of complaining.

Rabble, rabble, rabble..RABBLE!!! and Hurumph.

Steam>Settings>Interface and then uncheck the box next to "Notify Me…" (which is like the last option on that tab.)

yeah - I have more problems with Steam "updates" than any other single cause - I'm talking about the way Steam is so often updating itself! Why is it necessary for it to update so often?? (not patching the games, just Steam)

I have several games on Steam, and all of them have had at least 2 occurrences of Steam itself causing problems ("Validate Steam cache" anyone??). Several of these episodes took multiple hours to finally fix - having to completely re- download a multi-gigabyte game REALLY svcks !

Overall, I have to give Stream a grade of D

edit : I forgot about the stinking pop-up adds when you quit game!

change grade to D-
