TESV START IDEAS

Post » Tue Jul 06, 2010 4:51 pm

I'm getting sick of people using my thread about my idea for a specific variation on the prison start theme to talk about whether prison starts are a good or bad thing, so instead of using that thread for irrelevant discussion, use this one to discuss general ideas related to game starts for future TES games.

I really like the idea of having multiple starting options that someone else suggested, especially if they are all tied to you arriving from the Imperial City in some fashion.

Here's my idea:

How about this?

You get an option to choose from three or four different beginnings, each with their own story and character creation process.

Maybe something like:
-Prisoner being shipped to province
-Refugee fleeing to province
-commoner visiting province on pilgrimage
-nobleman visiting province on business for the emperor

I still think each should be departing from the Imperial City, to stick with tradition.

Sorry for misusing your other thread.

No problem. I really like this discussion, I just put a lot of thought into that idea and didn't want it put in the corner in it's own house.

The one thing I don't like about the starts, is that you can RP to be from anywhere except the province that the game starts in.
Where are your friends, your house, your local reputation, your belongings. Perhaps the guards siezed your house and possessions when they arreseted you, but how did they erase everyone's memory of you?

Only way to fix that is a lot of options like
Choose a house during Char creation if you wish
Choose current and past factions, if any
Choose fame or infamy, within a reasonable amount, ie no starting with 50 fame.
Etc, etc

It's either that, or just content ourselves with being an outlander every game.

One of the big parts of an RPG is acquainting yourself with a new, alien world. So, in my opinion, it really is a good idea to have you always be an outlander.

I could live with that choice, as long as i can choose to be an outlander as well. But, I really don't see how you can roleplay a local in a world you, yourself are unfamiliar with.

I don't think anything needs to be discussed. We will be in prison, we will be released somehow, we will have the ability to create our character, we will then be let loose into an open world with only a hint as to where we go.

Unless there's still that [censored] COMPASS ARROW!!!!!!

Well an easy way I can see to fix it, is to replace the arrow with a blank img. a 2x2 pixel blank image. Then I will never know where anythnig is and will have to look for it my self. Another realy cool thing i see in morrowind was you could ask any NPC about any other NPC or place, and they would give you directions on how to get there.
