TESV Weapons

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 8:43 am

Yup, a wide variety of weapon types, both in terms of classes of weapons (blades, blunt weapons, axes, pole arms, projectiles, fist weapons, etc.), subclasses (battleaxe, hatchet, shepherd's axe, dane axe, etc.) , and individual weapon types within a subclass (Daedric battleaxe, Iron battleaxe, _____'s battleaxe, etc.).

There could definitely be some grey area (i.e. Halberds: pole arm or axe? Tomahawk: axe or projectile?) so Beth would have to either decide to choose a dominant class for each of these weapons, or make certain weapons apply to multiple class types (and therefore affect multiple skills). Otherwise they would have to minimize the number of weapon skills, which I don't think any of us want...

Also, each weapon type should have some unique animations, as well as properties that force players to really think about what weapons they use. Speed, power, weight, length, resistance, etc... If critical strikes and/or assassinations are in the game, then there will have to be animations for each weapon type for those events as well... Preferably multiple animations for some weapons (e.g. with a dagger, you could slit a throat, embed it into their skull from below the chin, embed it into their chest through the shoulder, etc.). [Sorry to be so morbid btw.]

I want there to be dozens of weapon types, and I want pretty much every one to be a viable weapon of choice if the player builds their character properly. Heck, I should be able to play through the whole game with a kitchen knife if I am stealthy enough to use it for assassinations every time, maybe laced with a poison to paralyze or knock out the enemy.

i agree with daggers needing to not be strength based

Strength based Daggers? :unsure2:

Daggers have always, in real life and all forms of media, been fast but weak. Being stronger may help, but it's not a priority (Hence, when you level up, you can always choose strength)

I think I speak for everyone when I say I want it all and more. I want everything we saw in Morrowind and the past games. (Adamantium, Glass, Ebony, Steel, Netch Lether, Glass, Nordic Trollbone, etc.) and more. I want more, more, and more. We want more, more equipment, more options. Not less like we got in Oblivion (One of the biggest grievances I have with that game, though I still love it.)
More kinds of weapons, first of all bringing back spears, crossbows, katanas and throwables. Then more, like rapiers, sword/shield combos, claws, scimitars, and sabres.
And artifacts, we want artifacts. Goldbrand, Umbra, the Chrysamere, and new ones like Duskfang and Shadowrend with Shivering Isles. More artifacts, more stories for said artifacts, and more armor and weapons in general.

A reasonable variety including all basic common weapons like spears and staves, a larger choice of missile weapons, crossbows and slings obviously, also retrievable reuseable throwing weapons, and where appropriate, eg spears and some axes, weapons that can be used in melee and thrown. Also some weapons that can be used with HTH combat eg Khajiit claws (toggleable ability to reflect their being retractable), caestus, bagh nakh, knuckledusters.

Improvised weapons would be nice too. A bar room brawl isn't complete without broken bottles, stools etc.

I think that there should be more weapons than OB and MW, but long blade and short blade should be just classified as 1h and 2h blade weapons (more like a mix of OB and MW), but have weapons like staves and axes. And I agree about stealth kills having different animations (a little bit like assassinations in the Halo: Reach Beta, for those who've played it). Maybe even being able to hold two weapons like in Daggerfall, attack with one and use the other as a shield. Maybe have that option for special types of weapons onle, such as daggers (similar to Dual Wield-able weapons in Halo 2 & 3). Just a few suggestions... EDIT: I also agree about what the guy above me said about improvised weapons, maybe have it so of you vandalize property for a weapon, you can get arrested.

Longswords and Daggers are used completely differently. If anything, longswords are closer to claymores, hence they get grouped together.

I want the mug of easter eggs. On it, it should say:

"I saved all of Tamriel and all I got was this crappy armor". :P

Cup-wielding skills are the best.

Seriously, I just want Chrysamere back.

What I'd really love to see again is the Mace of Aevar Stone-Singer. That thing had an awesome story to it. I think it should be included in the next elder scrolls game with a nice new look. It's icy aura and massive damage are definitely good attributes to keep though.

Ill go with Tanvar's quote since its pretty much the same as my own wishes (So I agree with the first statement in the post). The old so that you wont feel like anythings missing, and new to add variety. The way some types of armour was handled in Morrowind is how I want it to be with other equipment too. For cheap/low level light armour you had Netch, Boiled Netch, Chitin, Nordic Fur, Studded leather etc. All with somewhat similar stats, but still a variety that I loved.

Polearms. It just doesn't sound like it would be that hard to add them in.

For example, if you click (or pull the trigger), the character would thrust the spear. If you hold the mouse button (or trigger), the person would thrust it harder (or if your holding a javelin or pilum, throw it).

I want them to be done better than they were done in Morrowind, though. Of course, that goes without saying for all weapons in that game...

Don't u hate how in oblivion u just pull arrows out of thin air? i would like to see my character actually reach into his guiver, grab an arrow and shoot it a realistic distance.
i would like to see spears and variety's of swords and daggers. i would also like to use my smithing ability in the game to customize and forge weapons, and flech arrows.
killing animals tanning their hides and making armor and or cloths.....that's what i want to see.

My list:

Long blade:
- Longsword
- Katana
- Daikatana
- Broad sword
- Claymore
- Zhanmadao
- Rapier

Short Blade
- Scimitar
- Kampilan
- Wakizashi
- Dagger (general, e.g. stiletto)
- Cinquedea
- Shortsword
- Combat Knife
- Kitchen knife

Blunt
- Mace
- Flail
- Warhammer
- Hammer (one-handed)
- Club
- Quarterstaff

Axe
- Great Axe
- War Axe
- Hatchet
- Dane Axe

Polearms
- Spear
- Pike
- Scythe
- Lance
- Poleaxe/Halberd
- (Javelin, see thrown)

Marksman
- Sling shot
- Bow/Arrow
- Crossbow
- Blowgun (how sick would it be to assassinate someone with that?)

Hand
- Cestus
- Tekko

Thrown
- Throwing Knife
- Throwing Star (shuriken)
- Tomahawk
- Bolas (for hunting, or incapacitating enemies)
- Javelin (see polearms)
- Any miscellaneous object that is small/light enough to be used as a makeshift projectile (cups, utensils, books, etc.)

I don't expect many of these to actually make it but I can dream.. If I had to choose just a couple new weapons, they'd be the bolas for the interesting gameplay it could provide (with a good physics engine), the Javelin for its versatility as both a thrown weapon and a polearm, and the blowgun because it would be the coolest weapon for an assassin.

Also if they include crossbows, they should also incorporate a grappling hook for scaling high walls. It would present alternate ways to complete many quests and possibly gain access to cool treasure or secret areas.

I just want spears back. The character I probably have the most playtime in morrowind was my khajiit specializing in spear, athletics, light armor, alchemy and sneak.

Assuming you're replying to my post, you must not know what a blowgun is. It's possibly the most basic and primitive projectile weapon; it's just a tube where you put in a dart (poisoned) and blow into to launch the dart.

Nice list, but you lack staves and claymores, both of which should definitely make an appearance in TES. Other than that, it is a nice list and in my opinion, none of those would be too hard to implement. I was also thinking about some kind of flail, but that would depend on how the physics work in TES V. Without good physics, I cannot imagine flails working well.

Just do an animation for the flail. The special move would be the shield rip.

French Ninja had a great idea for blowguns. That would work great and maybe you would be able to choose different types of poisoned darts. And possibly be able to poison your own darts yourself?

Stock Dart Types:

Knock out Dart - (K.O.s victim and makes it so you can loot his body.)

Fatal Dart - (Kills victim if shot is placed properly otherwise rendering the victim unconscious.)

Frenzy Dart - (Sends the victim into a wild frenzy and eventually the victim will die or be killed by guards. (Much like in assassins creed 2 with the poisoned hidden blade.)

I think if they implement blowguns, they should either sell pre-poisoned darts like the ones you suggest, or make it so that one bottle of poison can cover like 20 darts at a time. Otherwise blow darts would just be far too inconvenient. If they aren't pre-poisoned then I'm sure people will forget to poison them every so often, and an unpoisoned dart would do pretty much no damage, and alert enemies to your location, which is precisely the opposite of what a poisoned dart would do. Plus, logistically speaking, a bottle as big as the ones in OB could easily poison at least 20 darts and probably many more.

I would like all the weapons from morrowind, and maybe a Blowpipe, I would like all the huntsman weapons and the severed nord leg from bloodmoon.
Being able to achieve Hircines spear would be awesome. I would also like some hand-to-hand weapons.

Spears, crossbows, flails, separate long and short blade skills... standard response. But another thing which might be cool is if the blood decals stay on your weapons and clothes after a fight, until you do something to wash the blood off. Having a shirt covered in blood could change the way NPC's treat you. Some may be concerned that you've been hurt, others afraid of you, and it should also attract attention from the guards.
