TESV: Why couldn't it have been Elsweyr?

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 5:56 am

Honestly, Eleswyr is the last place I want to go in an Elder Scrolls game. I can't imagine a game full of cat-people selling well either.
No, I'd rather visit Valenwood. An alien place, but familiar at the same time. Tons of interesting lore, and the people are human-esque but still not human.

I'm not really up on Elsweyr lore, but I would imagine that there really isn't a whole lot of diversity there... even less than Skyrim.
I believe you need to read up on the lore because if I am not mistaken Elsewyr has desert, savannah, and jungle regions. That seems pretty diverse to me a lot better than Skyrim's boring environment.

Never thought a movie about giant blue space cats, would be the top grossing movie of all time, but it was.

If the game is good it will sell.

I personally was looking forward to Black marsh the most, but as the others have mentioned, hardware just isn't there yet.

Valenwood would be great. After reading about the vampires that they have there in Skyrim, I'd love to be able to play as one.

I meant diversity in people. I'd imagine that it's mostly Khajiit.

A cold race of barbarians simply don't have much in the way of interesting, intellectual, and thought-provoking lore.

Nords are more or less WYSIWYG: What you see is what you get. That to me is just boring as hell.

Now THAT would be awesome! Especially if they tapped into the whole Avatar meme for Valenwood...

Plus I see more of the traditionalist Dunmer, and their far more interesting lore, moving on to these places rather than settling down in the spiritual doldrums of Skyrim.
Guess you missed all the dragon lore?

That is all well and good. But for me, it isn't a racial thing. As I attempted to describe, it is how this translates into lore.

A return to the alien culture of the peoples of Morrowind would be a welcome breath of life into the genre.

If they do valenwood hey would have to bring back climbing. I think they're staying away from the more fantastic locations because they a) want to keep the mystery of these places because theyll never be able top the image of blackarsh, elseweyr or valenwood you've got in your head, B) they can't program a ladder right now. How are they supposed to make all he crazy things that are supposed to be in the beast races homes? Think skyrims culture and more got pillaged? Wait until they
Make elseweyr.

With all the political crap going on there and the war with the aldmeri, I don't think it would have been too exciting to be in Elsweyr during this time frame.
Yes, maybe in the future, but who would be the antagonist in our feline friends' homeland?

I'm leaning towards the hope that the next title will be in High Rock or Summerset Isle.

...One can dream, eh?

i would rather play black marsh more than anything...but this is a painful truth. swarms of blood flies, floods and even the very nature of a marsh would be next to impossible for bethesda to do atm (did you know cyrodill is actually, for the most part, a large forrest and not the endless plains oblivion made you play in?? i'd hate to see what blackmarsh turns into)

Yes to this.I hear that valenwood has massive moving tree citys how will beth pull this off I don't even think it's possible on the current hardware.

.........................

I said it before in this thread: Falinesti (the moving tree city with the Camoran throne) rooted itself for unknown reasons!

This alone increases my hopes that Valenwood will be the location of one of the next games.

I'd rather see snowcapped mountains, forests, lakes, tundra, northern lights at night, and of course nords, than deserts full off talking cats.

I think Skyrim was chosen because it fits in well as a generic fantasy setting which is popular with the majority of the market (casual fans). Oblivion, too, was set in a generic fantasy world, even though previous writings about Cyrodiil described it as a tropical region.

Bottom line is, medieval fantasy sells more games than weird alien worlds like Morrowind, Black Marsh or Elsweyr. Personally, I do like the Skyrim and Oblivion settings, although I hope they don't forsake the weirder parts of Tamriel forever.

I think beast races provinces would be amazing to explore but it requires some crazy devs not the devs who like the comfort zone of the best selling LOTResque.

Well that's great for you, because Skyrim gave you exactly what you wanted. For the next game, Bethesda should think outside the box, and Elsweyr is definitely outside the box.

If I'm not mistaken, Elsewyr's cities are usually tradeposts and host a wide variety of races, including orcs. However I believe the cities in the north have those. Regardless, I feel like people are giving the wrong reasons for not wanting Elsewyr

Khajiit also aren't hostile towards other races. So I doubt you'd see Nord caravans outside city wall, because they aren't allowed inside. Khajiit are often friendly, usually too friendly. Guess that's a side effect of too much moonsuger or Skooma. :P

Skyrim is the place the story took us next. Alduin is of the North, and his return was the next chapter of the unfolding Elder Scrolls story. That is why TES:V was set in Skyrim.

I don't get the fascination with Khajiit or Argonians, and never have. I don't have an active dislike of them, but they've never really been all that interesting to me, so while I'm not against it, I'm in no rush to see Elsweyr or Black Marsh. But I certainly won't be upset when a game is located in one of those provinces.

well for argonians are one of my favorite races. cause ever since i played mortal kombat 2 and played as reptile and did his fatality for the first time the one where he takes his mask off and you find out that he an actual retile. ever since then every game that i've played that you could be some kind of reptile type character i always pick that character. as for Khajiit i don't really care for them that much. i mean the character i'm playing right now in skyrim is the first khajiit i've ever played. but i would love to see a tes set in ether elsweyr or blackmarsh.

i think they should have some more attention brought apon them. there lor is interesting and i like how there provinces are described. especially elswyer and it would also be a nice change of seanery from skyrims cold mountinas and snowy world.

I personally love Skyrim. The snowy barbaric feel is just awesome. Reminds me of Game Of Thrones like setting (yeah, I went there ) and that's more of the "medieval" I like than Cyrodiil. But you bring up a good point that it is pretty one-dimensional. I don't quite agree with the way the devs went about Skyrim's finer points, but man I just get blazed and explore. It's just a blast. And for an archer, it's actually strangely fitting to me.

But now ES:VI... oh man I hope it's Elsewyr. ANDDDD if it is, they're definitely including Valenwood in the mix. Aren't Valenwood/Elsewyr in a similar war a that Skyrim is in? I can see More Thalmor oppression on the horizon. Not only that, but Elsewyr isn't big enough alone to host an ES game. What better place for an archer than the middle of archer-country? Do some hunting in dense forest, Explore vast deserts and kill threats from afar, all in the same game. I'm vastly looking forward to Elsewyr. Also, if I'm not mistaken, Elsewyr has a strong connection to the moons and tides, does it not? Just a thought, but there could be some GREAT lore out of that region.

Oh and i just remembered that Valenwood has moving communities, right? That could be interesting

the size of a province dosn't mater when it comes to being put in a game.because to me the smaller the better and this is why. the could take a province as small as elsweyr and make it as big as skyrim is in game if not biger and thats more detail that they could do with it to. and also they might imo be able to make the cities actually feel like real cities.

so the smaller they are the better the game world can turn out to be
