Texture fix V2.0

Post » Tue Feb 02, 2010 5:28 pm

I released hundreds of textures, dozens of hours of work, only a bunch came from others work basically in my first mods and in some especially cases i put others work putting his name in front like the tree moss textures from Earth wyrm because fits perfectly with my art direction and are absolutely beautiful. I dont want to redo ALL the textures because its impossible.

I didn't actually know this (that's what I get for not paying attention ), but that's fine by the permission sections of my readmes.
Glad you liked them :)

Don't know if you've read my previous post, if not i rewrite:
If i need to know in which cell i am, i open the console, highlight something in that cell and type: ori
Here it is an example (with a seam also but generated from a mod i think)
http://web.tiscali.it/icewind/Varie/BC-2,-8.jpg

Yes, Behelit, I saw your post. It's the first thing that came to my mind also. When I find a problem while playing, I always open the console, click on a object close to where the problem is (or drop something from my inventory so I can get a place), type ori so the problem is also shown, and then take a screenie. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m40/Shasta_Thorne/SeamOutsideCaldera.jpg . It works great when beta testing, or when I dislike the problem enough to want to make myself a patch.

NO MORE DISCUSSION ON THE EARLIER MISUNDERSTANDING, PLEASE!

Let's get this back on the topic that Connary first posted. I am ready for a revised texture fix, and would be more than happy to help.

I disabled all mods except Texture Fix for this:

http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg297/Adrala/Seam1.jpg
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg297/Adrala/Seam2.jpg
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg297/Adrala/Seam3.jpg

These aren't seams, but are caused by Texture Fix for some reason - weird depressions in the land around Tel Vos:

http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg297/Adrala/Depression1.jpg
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg297/Adrala/Depression2.jpg

Here it is an example (with a seam also but generated from a mod i think)
http://web.tiscali.it/icewind/Varie/BC-2,-8.jpg

That seam could be caused by Vality7's tree replacer, since it edits the landscape in addition to adding trees - I removed these references with TESAME to prevent the conflict with Texture Fix and haven't noticed any bad effects. Presumably they were there for a reason, though, so I might have missed something.

Yesterday was a little bit late so even if in the screenshot i posted there was a reference of Vality's mod i couldn't verify if the seam was generated by that.
Btw today i started a fresh new game with only Morrowind-Tribunal-Bloodmoon esms, TextureFix 1.8.esm and Bloodmoon Landscape Overhaul 1.0.esm (the texture fix for Solstheim always by Slartibartfast).

So without mods loaded no more seams in the Bitter Coast Region -2,-8.

I've found 1 here:http://web.tiscali.it/icewind/Varie/AI-4,-5.jpg

@Connary
Really no need to thanks me cause instead i have to THANK YOU for your amazing retexture works :goodjob:

Two side-by-side seams outside of Fort Moonmoth as you head down the road away from Balmora through the mountains to the south.

Sorry that it's in bmp format. MGE doesn't seem to want to let me change it at the moment...

This one is in the mountain path DUE south just a few steps from Kudanat. Start at Kudanat, walk south to pass, walk through pass completely, then turn right and look up and behind you to see the seam.

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh23/bycote1/MGEScreenshot3-2.jpg

These are both in the same spot very close to Ald Rhun, and they may be created by the mod "Libraries of Vvardenfell." Just walk out the town exit south of The Rat in the Pot, stay south, and glue your eyes to the ground off just a little to the right of you, you won't miss these seams if they're there.

I'm playing a new game right now, so I could keep an eye on seams at the same time. The only problem I see is the huge ammount of mods I'm using, most visual ones even merged. I could check in the editor if the seam persists just with "Texture Fix" series activated. Is that okay with you?

Such seams would be very difficult to fix, since, exterior landscaping aside, we cannot alter or replace individual instances of a particular texture without modifying the mesh on which it is used, introducing it into the game as a new static, and then replacing the offending mesh with the edited new one.

Hi connary,

*** removed previous seam reports - silly me forgot to enable the texture fix plugin  :embarrass: *****

However did come across this weird one that runs in a straight line from a little bit down the road South of the Crossroads North East (ish) of Balmora almost to Moonmoth Legion Fort (West Gash -2 -1 to Balmora -2 -2). It's more noticeable in certain light (the more overcast it is the less it is noticeable). Can anyone confirm this one, or is it just me? I'll post screens shortly.

OK some screens (hope they work)

Balmora (-2, -2) end of seam - http://s271.photobucket.com/albums/jj132/drav666/?action=view¤t=end.jpg
West Gash (-2, -1) end of seam - http://s271.photobucket.com/albums/jj132/drav666/?action=view¤t=start.jpg

I'll keep an eye out for any others in my travels (no mods other than texture packs and the current texture fix mods at the moment)

Take care

(PS love your work :) )

http://s18.photobucket.com/albums/b120/iamerik/MW%20and%20Oblivion/?action=view¤t=MGEScreenshot32.jpg A depression close to the vivec foreign quarter silt strider. It's a little difficult to see in this screenshot and it isn't as bad as http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg297/Adrala/Depression1.jpg one (which was mentioned before in this thread by someone, it's not a new find) but it still looks a little odd.

Then there's also http://s18.photobucket.com/albums/b120/iamerik/MW%20and%20Oblivion/?action=view¤t=MGEScreenshot31.jpg one. I forgot to open the console, but it is in Vos, close to the docks which you see in the background.

This is a great idea. Good work Connary :)

Might I suggest using the console's beta comment function as the best way to report these?
All you have to do is ensure you have a .txt file specified as your comment file and when you find a seam, simply open the console, click on the nearest obejct, type bc and then a comment of some description (in quotation marks)
This way, you end up with a nice big file of error reports, each of which contains full coordinate data, making finding the problem much easier. (It also gives the origin of the item in question, which could be handy....

A quick addition to what Lud suggested - In your Morrowind folder, create a text file for beta comments (for example, Beta Comments.txt), then open your Morrowind.ini file, find, and edit the line:

Beta Comment File=

to read:

Beta Comment File=Beta Comments.txt (or whatever your text file is called). Now you can use the "bc" console command as Lud described. I only wish I knew this before I collected all these seams... :^(

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh23/bycote1/MGEScreenshot9.jpg
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh23/bycote1/MGEScreenshot10.jpg

Directions to third seam - Leave Yasammidan heading east then follow the coast to the south until you pass under the first large stone arch. There is another large stone arch ahead of you, don't pass through it. Between these arches are a few seams.

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh23/bycote1/MGEScreenshot2-3.jpg

This seam is in Ald Rhun due south just a single step behind Pellecia Aurrus' house.

http://s252.photobucket.com/albums/hh23/bycote1/?action=view¤t=MGEScreenshot3-3.jpg

This one is on the hill due south of the same house.

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh23/bycote1/MGEScreenshot5.jpg

This one is right at the base of the sign smack in the middle of Khuul.

Uh mate, just replayed Firemoth Extended and noticed that whole lagoon is full of bad seams. It's almost no use to take screenies, just load Firemoth Region and you'll stumble over them! :) I counted about 20 places...

Thank you for your endless work! Anyway, please consider the above only AFTER finishing the Imperial textures - Fort Firemoth itself needs the improvement more than the land surrounding it! :)

Okay, I think nobody reported this one. It is very suttle, but the big pink arrow is pointing directly at it:

Edit: at the top right corner of the page there is a zoom-in button, if you need it.

It has been awhile since I've played Morrowind. I am just working out all of the kinks in about a hundred new mods I installed and I should be playing again very soon. I will keep my eyes open for more seams, of course!

Now I just hope that some kind person actually finds the time to fix these seams. ;^) I've never done any graphical work of my own, but I wonder, how hard is it to correct these seams? And what software is used? If it's not very hard to do, I think I could at least give it a try. :^)
