Texture issue

Post » Fri Oct 01, 2010 7:43 am

I want to take the picture of the overseer and amata (VOverseerPicture01) and using that model and texture turn it into a picture of some of my characters. So I posed them and all, went ingame, took a bunch of screen shots and picked the best one. Then I extract the texture for the picture, and photoshop my picture in over it. It looks great, and I save as png. Then go into gimp and convert it into a dds. Then made a texture set for it and put it ingame. I then noticed weird green specs all over it. Further investivate revealed they were added when converting it from png to dds in gimp. Does anyone know what would cause this? I converted the photo back into a png and they are still there.

http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/ac56/Gunmaster95/voverseerpicture05New.png is the png I made in photoshop.

Does anyone know what is causing it to mess up the image and add these green pixels? I made sure I'm doing BC3/DTX5 and generated mipmaps. I have made dds using gimp before no problem... I tried several times with the exact same result each time. Anyone input is welcome! The green specs are rather obvious so I would rather not leave them there. :( Thanks for any help.

Why would you go through all that hassle when there is a perfectly good DDS plugin available for Photoshop?

Because I cant find it. All the plugins I download end up being weird and not just straight up the format file. Plus, the point is it shouldnt be all weird and have the green pixels in the first place... If you can give me a link to a good, clean dds plugin for Photoshop CS4 - 64 bit I would be very greatful!

Oh, you have the 64 bit...

I have heard that GIMP does that sometimes. But since I don't use GIMP I never really looked into it. I believe it has to do with the compression routines.

if you insist on using the 64bit, and not just using the 32bit install and the dds plugin for PS, apparently you should have the 32bit version if you install the 64... it appears you might be best off using this interface http://docs.kaneva.com/mediawiki/index.php/Photoshop_DDS_Exporter to run the nvidia texture tools compressor.

After searching a forum for support on PS I managed to actually find a dds plugin. It lets me open the dds pictures, so I'm going to try to resave it now and see if it works alright.

Ok, I can convert it and it shows up in game alright. Just, when doing stuff in 32 bit PS it oftens disapears and chunks of the program become solid white or transparent, its really annoying but I will deal with it when saving as dds I guess... -_-

honestly for such a widely used plugin, I am surprised it still hasn't been sorted out to work in PS 64, especially with all the 3d projection support native to PS now. At least import shouldn't even need to be a plugin.. Serious Ghogiel is serious.
