HD Texture pack

Post » Fri Jul 02, 2010 3:04 am

If anyone wants to use the NMC HD texture packs in their New Vegas installation I threw together a script for installing them. If you're already installed them for Fallout 3 then it'll copy them from your Fallout 3 folder into New Vegas. If you weren't using them in Fallout 3 then you can download them separately and run the installer script. The description / instructions are on the nexus page:

I'll download this eventually. I shall probably finish "Vanilla" New Vegas first.

I can see a lot of work has been put into this pack. I very much appreciate it! :) Thanks!

If you have both Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas installed via Steam then you are in luck, this script will auto detect their locations and copy the compatible NMC's hd texture files from your Fallout 3 installation to your New Vegas installation and all you have to do is run the script and follow the Archive Invalidation instructions.

If either Fallout 3 or New Vegas isn't installed via Steam then you'll have to tell it where the game folder (or both game's folder) is.

Does this mean it will also transfer the textures of other texture mods that replace the same things as NMC?

i'll wait until all of FNV's textures are HD'ed. a lot of stuff will look out of place when some stuff is high res, but others low res by comparison. also, FNV's textures have probably been changed too.

ive been using the NMC packs for a while and there are some areas that you can see the distinction between the to and it is stark. that being said overall the game world looks much better with the pack. its a choice basically between having lots of good textures with a few bad ones or having nothing but bad ones.

Yes, so if you have other versions of the files that NMC's would normally install then it will copy them over.

FNV's HD texturing will include nearly all of these plus some more. If you want to uninstall it afterwards then you can run the uninstall script that is generated during the install process.

Yeah, I can't play without this texture pack because it really helps you immerse yourself in the game. It's nice to walk up to a door and it looks like wood rather than a picture of a picture of a picture of wood.

after extracting the texture files into the proper FNV folder, I proceeded to the next step where you have to edit the script. im told to edit the "CopyHDTexturePackv1.1.cmd" file. I cannot for the life of me find this file

Hahah, that is nice. I almost ditched the game when i first saw some of the extremely bad textures, godit looks like unreal tournament 1 sometimes.. But the game turned out to be good enough to play anyway :)
Good that there is an uninstall script, because https://sites.google.com/site/iam4aces/Home/mods is working on a full texture update that i would love to have.

I'm confused why a script would be required... texture replacers are just drop-in for the most part and I'm using a ton of them from FO3.

I have a Phenom II x4 955@3.2ghz and 4gb ram but my videocard is a Ati HD4870 with 512mb ram and not 1gb as the author of the NMC pack states. You think i can use the Full Pack anyway?

Hopefully NMC ends up texturing the additional tetures in FNV. That man has so many quality texture packs in quite a few different games. I would be willing to bet he'll do it at some point.
