already tested DXT3 and 5... no effect.

the texture names are: Tx_Stars_Nebula, Tx_Stars_Nebula2, Tx_Stars_Nebula3
the mesh is named "sky_night_01"

but DXT2 you say? why I don't have an option for saving under DXT2? hmm.

Try PMing Skydye about it..he's made lots of replacers using textures like that.

I'll be happy to teach people please just P.M. As for me doing textures. Sadly things like this are happening too much.

Grvulture
"The new v3.0 counts totally 2,198 files. Less than 400 of them are made by other artists, and are here to complete the package. Most of these included textures are small generic textures. Everything else is made by me".

This is crossing a line I thought no one would.

Edit:
Removed this post, suffice to say I find the Ultimate texture pack to be an annoyance.
But annoying as it is (and it is), I'd rather not drag the subject into this thread.

But we could always put such thoughts in our sigs  I'm with you on that count.

I think we forgot to mention that Canadian Ice's forums are another great place to find help, advice, and links to resources if you do any work with textures. And if you downloaded her Robe Replacer than you're already signed up at her forum, so all you gotta do is head over.

ok, just to get away from that topic, I got some new textures to share.

And I have more questions, with a UVmapped model how do I increase the size of the texture?

next, when do I add mipmaps? on weapons? armor? world textures? how many mipmaps?

you can resize the textures in your graphics program. just keep the same propotions.
mipmaps can be added when saving a texture as .dds. you can get http://developer.nvidia.com/object/nv_texture_tools.html. how many mipmaps you generate is up to you. but the more mipmaps you make the more quality will suffer (because with a higher number will generate more smaller mipmaps which of course lack quality). mostly I choose to generate 4.

I'm sure somebody else can explain better, I'm a bit tired from weight training, can hardly move my arms. sorry;-/

Cheers Morgulsen.
I'll write up a more complete tutorial on Mipmaps a bit later and post it for you Kjon, but right now I'm a bit busy. What Morgulsen said is pretty much at the heart of it.

Applying a larger texture can be done without any hassle, I think UVMaps are handled relative to the texture that they have been assigned to. Certainly relative to the size of it, if the texture changes shape as well as size than I'm almost certain that it's exactly the same, though I haven't done any testing.
In the meantime - If you use MGE, assign the functions increase MipMap LOD and Decrease MipMap LOD to some keyboard keys to see what effect Mipmaps have on the in-game display of a texture or compare the mipmapped version of Plagke's Telvanni texture to the non-mipmapped version.

I'll also whack some more photos on the 'net later today. :)

Here we go, my contribution for the day: Some high resolution leaf scans, front and back. I don't know what these will be useful for, but I'm sure they'll be useful for something. Possibly nature related. Who knows?

I really went overboard on the following type of leaf, but what can I say? I think they look really cool when they're really young.

I've got a whole bunch more leaf scans, so if anyone wants more - just say so and I'll do my best to oblige :)

Actually, I'm looking for some polished wood source material - hardwoods for preference. Anyone have anything like that?
Some generic material weaves (any clothing material at all really, or even sacking) might be useful.

Also, just felt I have to mention - abload.de is a really cool uploading site, much better than some of the alternatives. I picked that up from your URLs, thanks Morgulsen.

Have you looked through http://www.mayang.com/textures/ Site? I know she has a LOT of clothing materials, not so sure about the wood, as I haven't gotten there yet. (I am going through and looking for recent pics)

Yeah, Mayang is a great site but last I checked there wasn't anything which suited me particularly.
I must admit though, the last time I checked Mayang was probably over a year ago
Thanks, I should probably check it out again. :)

There's a good site for wood http://www.woodworking.org/WC/woodsampler.html, but it'd be nice to have some higher resolution samples to work from.

There are some really nice fabrics textures up, though I don't know if they would suit you. Only problem is, they aren't tileable (which is easily fixed)

As for the wood, Try searching for medallion sites. I know that when i went looking for them when Clavis Released her medallion packs, I Noticed that several of them had 'sample' areas that had screenshots of sample material, most of it wasn't good (as in large textures) but they did have some that might do if you can't find any others. I will try to find them and post the names of the sites here.

Czar Floors has 220 x 220 size wood textures (or they did when I last went there)
Inlay (don't know if that is the complete title or not) has 175x116 wood textures and 128x128 stone textures (or close to it, I can't remember whether I resized them or not)
mtiledesign.com has 400x400 stone textures (I don't have any wood from there, but there might be some)
Stoneworks of Art has various sized stone textures (again I don't have any wood from there but that doesn't mean there isn't any)

Sorry I don't have any links, but I downloaded the textures to my computer and didn't save the links.

Medallion sites? I wouldn't have thought to search there in a million years, thanks Kittybrod.
That's great. I'll have a bit of a look around (starting with the companies/sites you listed) and see what else I can find, thanks for the help. :)

No problem, I would never have thought to look there if I hadn't already looked through several looking for medallion textures (I didn't like some of the textures Clavis Used, so I started looking for ones I liked better) and found the sample materials pages on them. I mostly got them for the stone (as I didn't have that many stone textures) but I also found some wood there too.

Wow; the word "medallion" would have never crossed my mind as one to use to search for sites with textures! That's why we need this thread. :D

I have in the past dug up some nice textures from tile sites. My first truly successful use of the clone brush involved fixing a pic of some molding/edging that I found to make it tile properly. Well, *I* call it a success, although under extreme scrutiny it might not be perfect

http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/1637/txvstrip03ro3.jpg

(And, if I put something up that means it up for use if anyone would like to use it.)

I'll try to set aside some time to go through some of the other textures I have made and post whatever I don't mind sharing--it won't be much and might not suit anyone's taste, but I *will* contribute to this thread one way or another. :swear:

I've taken a couple of pics that I thought might be useful for texturing, but I haven't experimented with them yet.

I uploaded them to Photobucket, so they've been scaled down from the originals (if anyone wants the full size ones, PM me for them).

Well, like I said, I wasn't actually looking for textures such as wood or stone, just textures or inspiration to replace some of the medallions Clavis did that I didn't like. She is the one who actually looked for the medallion sites :D

What do you mean tile sites? could you post some? My usual method of fixing tileing problems is to scale the texture down copy it, flip the copy horizontally for side to side tileing and then move that texture to right beside the first texture, and do the same for top to bottom tileing except flip the texture vertically. *Most* textures you can't really tell that this has been done. Since I use Fireworks, while I might have a clone brush, I don't use it much.

my problem is I tend to use most textures I create (I don't tend to create textures just to create textures, Nearly all of mine I created with a specific purpose in mind usually to use on a mesh, there might be one or two Ididn't create for this purpose, but I can't recall any) Any of the textures I post (in any of my texture packs on in my photobucket mineral account) are free to be used else where same for the meshes, just give me credit.

When I said "tile sites" I meant places that sell tile or install tile in homes (ceramic tiles and the like) :D I don't know if I can find again any of the ones I have visited, though.

Ooh. That's a good point, I'd been working under the presumption that this was already understood by whomsoever uses any of the resources in the pool - I guess I should state that explicitly, just in case there's any misunderstandings.

That strip of waves looks cool, Gren. Actually, that'd really suit a weapon I've been intending to make for a while, but haven't had the time to do so - I thought of a way to use Trey's animation experimentations that'd look real cool on a mace.
Just got to find time, you wouldn't believe how busy I've been recently. I haven't felt so tired since exam period :dead:

Edit: Whoa, just looked at the resources you uploaded Swrdphantom - that Mud1 is perfect for the ashlands, don't you think?
I've been sorely tempted to do an Ashy Ashlands(!) mod for a long, long time... that just makes me want to do it more. Must... resist... urge.
And that brick wall is pretty cool
I don't know, maybe it's just me but it has a 'foreign' kind of look to it, really nice.
Thanks so much for those :)

That is sort of what I thought you meant, but just wanted to make sure (to me that might also mean sites with tileable textures *shrug* my mind works in mysterious ways (which is a much more polite way of saying I am crazy :D))

And that also gives me an idea of things to search for: Home Improvement sites. Most of the should have pictures of things like carpeting, flooring, maybe even wallpaper, and other things (I have never really visited them) and sites that sell stuff for homeimprovement like the medallion sites and tile sites. Also for wood, perhaps any sites that make and sell furniture, they might also have pics of both finished products (which some of them might be good to get a texture or two from) but also the woods used, if they take orders throught the site. There might even be some online catalogues for things like carpeting and wood for the sites that sell/make/use the items. Not sure if any of these will actually be any good, but just some thoughts on it.
Ooh. That's a good point, I'd been working under the presumption that this was already understood by whomsoever uses any of the resources in the pool - I guess I should state that explicitly, just in case there's any misunderstandings.

I never even thought of it, just put it in there, I really don't think it will be a problem either, but I know how hard it is to remember where you got each texture from (I am bad about that, if I don't write it down, I tend to forget where I got the textures from.

Thanks for making this thread, this will be a pretty usefule thread (sort of like the site with all the main and large texture sites listed in one place.

Well I'm hoping it will be, as long as I do a half-decent job collating all the information that gets contributed then it'll only get better with age. :D
If I get lazy then who know? :P

Hrm... I wonder if I could find some tailors shop to send me a 'sample book' of materials? That'd certainly be interesting...
