Textures are absolutely horrendous

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 11:09 pm

From how Todd was going on and on about the level of detail they put into everything... this is just so disappointing. Look at anything close up, and it looks like it came straight from the PS2.

Some textures are low res, but when you have a game like Skyrim trying to render miles of terrain at a time, its kind of a given that some of the textures are going to be lower res to save on rendering speed.

Even with the low res textures, the game is beautiful.

Kidding, right? I'm on 360, 55" LCD, HDMI, and I am more than satisfied.

I've had the texture glitch strike once, lasted 5 seconds and corrected itself... Other than that, purely sublime.

yeah, I think the 360 still has that texture problem. Don't install the game until the patch comes out.

Somebody's on a console.

And that's just how Bethesda and Microsoft want it. :whisper:

I'm playing ultra on my high end pc and Skyrim has a mix of very good textures and low ones like 512x512. Pete Hines said that the pc version will melt your face. Yeah right. When I found out that the game is about 6 gigs in size I knew that ain't happening. Thank god I've the pc version since I've updated to new high rez textures from the community.

Also if it is uninstalled except for the lucky few, hope the patch sorts it. Game enviorments are fantastic but up close its just fuzzy.

probably not...it's the PC people who are graphics snobs. console players don't use the word textures.

The entire game has a mixture of low and high resolutions. On PC it is more pronounced on how bad the textures look. I wouldn't even call 512x512 "high" anymore.

It's because they can't afford to.

Nope. Ill take it you never saw one of the many "I installed to the HDD and now the textures svck" threads.

Anyway, on PC Ill see things like Birth Stones having great textures. Then see a guys shirt that looks like the strings are super pixelated. While anothers attire will be perfectly textured. Weird, but I don't really care about graphics.

The difference between the PC and 360 version is night and day.

What are you talking about?

The issue is even WORSE on PC.

The "high res" textures PC users get are barely any different, and some aren't even touched at all. This makes it much worse since we are staring right at the monitor. When I walked into Whiterun for the first time I died a little inside.

Bethesda completely screwed the PC community with Skyrim.
Have you even seen the UI?

They count on the modding community to fix their errors. Just sad. All I can say is, please release the Dev Tools as soon as possible. I need the graphical mods ASAP.

Actually, I feel bad for Beth texture artists because they were give a "texture budget". That's why we see a patch work of great and bad textures co-existing. Game companies have a budget on how much input they place in all of the departments of production. In the end, it's not the employees fault, really, but the leader of the company. He calls the shots.

Why spend an extra $10 million on making awesome textures, when you will still make $500 million on the game in the first week, and have fanbots defend your crappy textures? Seriously, why would you spend the extra money?

haha to all the people saying troll or denying this.. well all I can say is I'm sorry for your loss of vision, Being blind is sure to be a challenge. I can't speak for the xbox , but PC textures are the worst I've seen ever on a modern game(for its time) I've seen 2x better textures from older games.

The only real problems I have are with the interior textures , like furniture , rugs , cupboards. Basically everything that fills up a home looks like the worst crap ive seen in years.

If this wasn't true , why would the community start making high texture mods a few days after release? Denying this is simply being closeminded.

I'm a little embarrased by bethesda , such great game concept makers , concept art etc. But they really seem to lack in the technical department.
