Textures are not being loaded properly - bug?

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 9:15 am

Quite surprisingly, I can play the game on medium/high details with a good framerate, but I did notice that textures are not loaded properly at times. For instance it will load the textures near my starting point, but it will only load low res textures of nearby areas. I am not talking about LOD textures, just very low quality textures... Only fix this far has been quicksaving and quickloading. Reloading the area will fix it...locally. It will then show low res textures at some other place.

Now I did see a screenshot of the early leaks, where everything but a table was displayed in high res. Also, a German magazine was reporting that apparently there is a bug with texture loading and that it would ask Bethesda for further input.. Could it be that this is a bug? Or is it some kind of optimization for GPUs with too little VRAM?

I doubt it, as people using a 4GB GTX 980 were getting this too..

Well, i'm running actually on:

i7 5820k

GTX 980 4GB

ASUS RAMPAGE V EXTREME

and my texture loading doesn't seem to have this issue.

I stongly think it's because of your 1GB GPU, it's below the reccomended specs man.

I have a similar problem. Granted I know my rig is under the recommended but more than meets minimum. It can run The Witcher 3 at a playable rate, and still looks good. Now when I started this game on the computer it looked great. Textures were good shadows and everything (the game suggested medium settings with a mixture of high.) It ran fine, and then after leaving the vault I noticed everything looked a little smooth. So I payed more attention and everything looked like tiw as made of clay. Everything but character models which looked fine still. Now no matter what setting I set my textures to they always look the same. Like when I say low I mean Fallout New Vegas textures looked better. Although my card only has 1 gig of vram, my 16 gigs of actual ram should be picking up some of the load. At the very least Changing the texture settings should actually change the textures.

My card beats out the minimum required card by a large margin(at least large enough not to get playdoh textures). The only thing that it lacks is a single gig of vram. My card renders The Witcher 3 graphics just fine. My card renders SKyrim HD patch perfectly, and various HD mod packs. Fallout4 is an upgraded SKyrim engine. I should not be having this problem. I have 16 gigs of ram. The whole point of having that much ram is to pick up some of the slack of the lack of vram on my card. This cannot be the issue.

yep , that's exactly the issue, the thing u said about the ram should work like this but non properly, and we all know bethesda, nothing works prpoerly at first, try another GPU and u will fix it i assure. uh and u see the gap between minimum and reccomended? that's another answer for ur lack of perf.

Okay so we are saying the same thing, but in differant ways. It should work, but Bethesda being Bethesda messed up. I can deal with the textures it looks like bunk, but whatevs the game runs well. I suppose I will wait for the inevitable patch.

Before we resort to GPU or Mac bashing or whatever, I did try it on my friends desktop computer which houses an Nvidia Titan Z - plenty of VRAM to be found there, the issue still persists. So no, it doesn't seem to be VRAM related. Besides, I manage to run the Witcher 3, Kingdom Come Deliverance or Skyrim in HD just fine, and the textures are loading as well.

A German games magazine reported that they experienced texture loading issues as well and also that changing texture settings didn't seem to have any effect. (Whether it was medium or ultra, textures looked exactly the same.)

Yes, textures not loading. Most players have this problems.

Go to Steam Discussions and search topics by name: 'texture'.

My 1 GB videocard run GTA 5 on ultra-high, BF4 on ultra-high, Dying Light on high-medium.

And i look SOAP on high-medium settings on Fallout 4. LOL.

Yes, apparently several message boards are talking about this issue. Also, it seems to affect many GPUs, both high end and low end. If I am not totally mistaken, even consoles have that issue, as one of the PS4 leaks was showing that texture loading problem..

No fix yet it seems, so one can only hope that Bethesda fixes this problem asap!

Thank you! This is the issue I've been having, the textures look like garbage even on Ultra. And then other people are like "what are you talking about? looks good!" I'm thinking this is either my GPU or just a terrible bug.

Literally no fix other than getting a different GPU or waiting until a patch. It's not just us 1 GB VRAM plebs either(ALthough it is mostly us) Or wait for a texture mod or something I dunno.

Actually, I ran some tests, the vram usage was maxed out at all times, implying that 1 GB is simply not enough. The game literally cannot load more textures because my card does not have enough vram.

I'm gonna upgrade soon anyway. Gonna get the R9 390 because that has 8 GB of vram, I'm sick of these ram limitations, gimme that 8 GB. Was gonna go for a GTX 970 at first, but that only has 3.5 GB.

If thats true, then why are people with a 980 or Titan GPU experiencing this? Sure, 1GB is very low, but then again people with 1GB VRAM can run the Witcher 3 or Skyrim with texture mods . Quite surprisingly the textures do load in these games, doesnt even take long, it may however stutter at times.

Word on reddit is, that there is some kind of memory leak..

Oh really? Well then, there is hope after all! Just gotta discover a fix or wait for a patch then, don't have to blow a bunch of money just yet.

Yeah I expected some issues, but the BIG problem is that there is actually only two sets of textures for this game. Ultra and LOD. Texture settings doesn't really change anything. SO these horrible clay like textures we are getting are the LOD textures. The game should be utilizing more RAM. I have 16 gigs of it; let that take some of the load.

fallout 4 preferences ini

itexmipmapskip=1 change it to 0

some stuff looks a little like an LOD at times but for the most part this does it.

apparently someone else said changing it to -1 works too? Im going to try that
