Thalmor attacked me!

Post » Mon Dec 16, 2013 2:17 pm

3 Thalmor Justificators just decided to attack me.

It was a close call, because I was fighting something else when they turned up.

Why would they attack me? In the note it says i done something wrong to them

and I need to get killed.

Killing deer and mudcrabs is what I do, except killing some stuff in dungeons.

Ingame I don't even know the Thalmor (or DB), but some ppl out there want me dead?

I've got 2 attacks from DB, not even knowing their existance, reasons unknown.

And now Thalmor.

In what way could I've triggered this?

Their spellpower is quite amazing on level 20.

Not sure but I know that some of them are hostile, unrelated to if you have killed any of them or started the main quest.

Guess some groups are set to hostile, might be other factors.

In Oblivion hitting a bandit with an arrow while staying hidden would cause them to attack nearby creatures like deer.

RP explanations, they are [censored]s why not kill some fool out in the wilderness for fun, not as the boss will know.

If you do anything against the Thalmor or their plans you trigger a random encounter where a team of justicar attack you.

The way you triggered this was by having your character reach the necessary minimum level for that world encounter.

I don't know what the trigger is, sometimes it takes a while, sometimes they appear quiet soon, even if you don't start the MQ.

On my current character, they were waiting for us outside the cave, after escaping the embassy.

Malborn didn't make it, although I unfortunatly hit him with a paralyze spell, trying to save him... I'm used to this kind of irony though.

"The way you triggered this was by having your character reach the necessary minimum level for that world encounter."

So you're saying I could stay at lvl 19 forever, and never see this?

I think there should be a reason/cause for anyone to attack me, with the exception of wolves and bears etc.

Well, I play the game as it is handed to me, but with no explicit reasons for a faction to attack me, I think it's just stupid.

Except DB, which have eyes and ears everwhere.

But Thalmor? I never saw a Thalmor before, only might have been running past them someplace.

That wouldn't make me their enemy of interest.

My research on this shows level 8 as the minimum requirement for that encounter.

assassins coming after you is completely random, thalmor i think come after you if you did the quest missing in action or diplomatic immunity which is part of the main quest.

They are a random spawn with a death execution for you. Doesn't matter what you do, they will just randomly try to kill you.

IMO this is a poor design decision on Beth's part. I have had this happen to me many times despite never once having any dealings or interactions with them. I think a better way of handling is similar to how, depending on your actions in Fallout 3 determined whether you got The Talon Company chasing after you, or The Regulators. If you maintained neutral karma, yo could avoid both of them.

Attacks by the Thalmor and the DB are just linked to your character's level. That's it.

I think once you've killed them or intervened in their affairs, they will attack you on sight. Like Growl said, just keep killing those bastards!

Doesn't matter, I've had characters that have went out of their way to avoid any and all interactions with them and stil I got attacked by them.

I could see them randomly murdering humans, that's part of their agenda. Beast races, I'm not completely clear on them (they don't have the same mythic status humans do), but I don't think it's out of character for the Thalmor to put them down. On the other hand, attacking a random elf seems strange.

This.

Like BarrettsFloyd, I've seen this myself. It was most obvious with a test character of mine. She was basically only running around, doing some random dungeons. I had NOT started the MQ, I had NOT done Missing In Action, I had NOT joined ANY faction, and I had NOT encountered ANY Thalmor at all, but as soon as I hit level 8 with that character, BAM, there they were - the death squad.

Others have gone beyond level 40 without encountering them, so, yeah, completely random.

I'm jealous. Seems like fun getting to kill the bastards early. Then again, you can always do the "you got me, I worship Talos" line. I love doing that.

Oh yes. I also always very innocently tell skooma dealers that what they do doesn't seem legal. Strange, they get so angry every time... :whistling:

Cider is right. Have you done the MQ beyond the Thalmor Embassy or anything involving them like saving Thorald? What you describe is when they're specifically sent after you with a note from Elenwyn, everyone is confusing this with the random encounter of justiciars.

Op makes no mention of Elenwynn whatsoever, so assuming wwe are mistaking one encounter with another doesn't make any sense.

After looking at the Elder Scrolls Wiki, it states : Thalmor Justiciars can be sent to kill the Dragonborn. This will start to happen when the Dragonborn has completed the quest "http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Diplomatic_Immunity." They can also be sent if the Dragonborn has attacked http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Northwatch_Keep or if the Dragonborn has committed crimes against the Thalmor.

I happen to know for a fact this is incorrect, I have repeatedly been attacked by them without ever starting the main quest or having any dealings whatsoever with them. Maybe this is th way it intended to work, but it doesn't work that way, they will come after you regardless of your actions.

They should have a letter on their person Sir. A death warrant with your name on it.

I think it all kicked off when I went to that place where she Elenwen lives as part of that quest that you do.

I made a faux pas with one of Elenwen's colleagues over vol-et-vents. Something about seeing her getting her hair cut at the blacksmiths in Windhelm.

No sense of humour the Thalmor Sir.

They remind me of that W H Auden poem, Epitaph on a Tyrant

Perfection, of a kind, was what he was after,

And the poetry he invented was easy to understand;
He knew human folly like the back of his hand,
And was greatly interested in armies and fleets;
When he laughed, respectable senators burst with laughter,
And when he cried the little children died in the streets.

Strangely and coincidentally I was on my way to Falkreath on my horse when I witnessed how 3 Thalmor justiciars were attacked by Stormcloak soldiers. Thalmor Justiciars went down like sack of [censored].

Nope, at least I'm talking about the death squad with the note from Elenwen. And I see BarrettsFloyd is too. The ONLY thing you have to do to trigger this is to reach a certain level, according to what I've learned, level 8. And as I mentioned above, this was one of my character's very first encounter with the Thalmor, no factions joined, no MQ started, no quests that in any way involved them done. Well, I did went through the vanilla start with that character, so I suppose there's a chance Elenwen saw her from a distance and decided she disliked her. :P
