Thalmor Caused Oblivion Crisis

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 12:22 pm

It makes perfect sense. What would be the biggest impediment to a surprise attack on the Empire? A Dragonborn emperor who could see the future, of course. So they had the Mythic Dawn wipe them out. Now, I can only speculate as to how much they actually knew of the Mythic Dawn (they may have thought them a deluded but useful tool, for instance). So, the Thalmor inadvertently caused the Oblivion Crisis just to ensure that they would be able to defeat the Empire when they had amassed enough power to do so. In fact... they may have known that the Oblivion Crisis would occur and used that in an attempt to weaken their enemies and gain support for themselves. I don't get how they would have solved the problem, so this is entirely speculation. But it is awfully convenient that the biggest threat to the Empire sprang into action immediately after the death of the ones who could have foreseen it.

We need a new Dragonborn Emperor. It's high time we put these Nazi elves into the ground.

Nazi elves is a weird but interesting word. Nazi, from my knowledge is related to "nationalism" and it's somehow what they are anyway..

But it's weird to think the thalmor would use the Mythic Dawn cult as tool.

Sounds like a conspiracy theory (cue twilight zone music)
Though I do agree we need to put them in the ground - Every time I see them I stalk them until I get a good chance to whack'em all.

I like to kill them as a werewolf personally. I've had a complete hatred of high elves since I first played Morrowind a decade ago and it's even worse now that they've taken over half the continent and are the pupper masters of the other half.

Screw 'em. If being a Stormcloak lets me kill every one I come across, so be it.

i dont buy it. They certainly benefited from it but I doubt they would have put into motion what they would have had no way of stopping without the secret child of the emperor and the champion of cyrodiil being his errand boy. I know the Thalmor are arrogant but i doubt they believed they could just cast Mehrunes Dagon back into Oblivion whenever they felt he had done enough for them.

It's a fairly well known fact that the Camoran family are influential in the Thalmor.

The Thalmor as they are now rose to power in 4e 22, the Oblivion Crisis was in 3e 433. It seems unlikely that they would begin to undermine the imperial power structure before securing their own. In the long run they benefited, but this is correlation, not cause.

It seems more likely that the Oblivion Crisis was exactly what it says on the tin: Mehrune Dagon made an overt attempt at effecting chaos and disorder. Had he succeeded there might not have been an Aldmeri Dominion. Seems a bit too risky to rely on a dooms-day cult being only partially successful!
