Thank God I didn't buy it

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 8:11 pm

I have been playing Fallout 4 at my friends place and I thank God that I didn't buy it. This game is absolutely an unrefined piece of work, it would have been a good game back in 2008 but this release does not belong in 2015.

There is just so much wrong with this game but my biggest grief with this game is the companion AI, its virtually impossible to combat effectively with ranged weapons or to change your position with companions getting in the way all the time.

Hell even outside the combat I got stuck in ruined house for as long as 15 mins because Codsworth was standing in the door and I had no way to make him move so I was stuck inside.

This is a [censored] game, Bethesda must stop looting people. They made some good Elder Scrolls games back in the day but now they must stop squeezing this [censored] old game engine and come up something new.

I disagree. I find the game to be immersive and, so far (im only level 15 with about 30 hours played), bug free.

It's definitely not the best looking game you've probably played but it's definitely up there as one of the most detailed environments you'll experience. It's a huge game so certain broken aspects are bound to fly under the radar, but (for me at least) none of these small issues really get in the way of how awesome the game is.

Cool story. Bethesda is glad you didn't buy their game either.

Companions have always svcked (except for ED-E or Eddy as I call him <3) I'm glad I bought the game and I'm glad there is a "Lone Wanderer" perk. :)

I love reading, well thought, constructive reviews. This isn't one of them. But, don't worry. You didn't buy it, so you never have to play it again.

Thanks for sharing OP,

but not much sense in what you say, sadly.

I feel like we are playing "whack a mole" on these forums... So many trolls popping up. For every reasonable constructive criticism post there are 10 flame bait troll threads.

If you didn't buy the game why are you on the forums. And you are playing at a friends house? Are you 8 years old?

While I agree they should really stop using such an outdated engine, there is plenty of more this game offers with creating an engaging experience. The game is flawed, but definitely a worth while experience when its all said and done.

Your loss, I suppose.

I have had companions block a doorway except they move relative quickly

I love the game and am quite pleased. Yes, there are things I don't like about Fallout 4, but not enough to say I wish I didn't purchase a copy.

Every game has its quirks. Clearly you didn't play Fallout 3. Sorry but not sorry you'll be missing out on one of the most epic games ever.

but yea this game needs basic game settings like turn off headbob, a volume slider for the main character.

The companion AI can be a little frustrating at times and it's not without it's faults I'll admit, but it doesn't detract from the fact that, in my opinion, it's an excellent game.

"the companion AI, its virtually impossible to combat effectively with ranged weapons or to change your position with companions getting in the way all the time."

I haven't had an issue with this. If they are in the way, I just move to the left or right to get a shot.

"Hell even outside the combat I got stuck in ruined house for as long as 15 mins because Codsworth was standing in the door and I had no way to make him move so I was stuck inside."

Just keep walking into him, he will more. This is a pretty stupid issue that shouldn't exist. I understand the frustration.

I like the game, and would rank it equal with FO3, but behind FO:NV.

For me, strictly in terms of Bethesda:

1. Morrowind

2. Oblivion (modded to de-emphasis level-scaling, better textures etc...) very close second

3. Fallout NV

4. Daggerfall

5. Fallout 3/Fallout 4

6. Skyrim

Never played Arena. That came out during a time I was obsessed with other games.

I actually enjoy games that are less streamlined and less realistic in a sense because I'm older and cut my teeth on games during an era when cRPG's were actually more akin to tabletop simulations than what they are today. Ironically, the more fluid and intuitive games get, the less fun the are for me. The exception to that rule was Ultima 7, which was a quantum leap in UI and also my 2nd favorite game of all time behind Ultima 6.

I didn't care much for NV, that game was quit the mess. It froze and locked up so much on console that I just gave up playing.

While I have my own criticisms about the AI and certain other things in the game, I find it to be a good game. This is literally the first FO4 I have actually completed because for some reason this game caught my attention in a way that the others didnt.

But what i find funny is how you went through all the trouble to make an account on here just to say you are glad you didnt buy it and how it is a crappy game. That is really counterproductive.

so many posts but not one word about the issue that I mentioned, means that people have given up on such issues in Bethesda games, I remember Skyrim also had such issues with companion AI and terrain where you kept getting stuck invisible walls etc...........

Boohoo. Game has problems, a good bit. I've gotten 140 hours so far and I see myself getting a lot more. Worth my money.

Edit: to your point. Companions svck anyway, it's not ME or anything. I don't use them and get along fine, so do as I do?

I have my problems with this game but I'm having fun and glad I brought it. That said they do need a new engine or something for their next RPG.

LOl, that's what I thought.

The last time I played videogames at a friends house was in the early 90s on a Sega. :D
