Thanks for reminding me

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 6:19 pm

Been spending a lot of time in the Skyrim and Fallout forums trying to get re-energized into playing one of them. I've put 200 hours into Fallout 3 and 500 into New Vegas. Put 400 in Oblivion but a whopping 35 hours into Skyrim before I got bored. Been trying and trying to get some energy to play Skyrim but just can't. Haven't put Morrowind in for about 6 months but after reading 2 posts, one about the wonderful treasures out there for anyone skilled enough to find and one about some ones first try at Mortowind and I've decided what I'm looking for in Skyrim I'll find in Morrowind. So thanks to all you for reminding me what I've been missing.

P.S. I've put 400 hours into Morrowind previously as well.

only 35 hours?

your not even giving the game a chance, you have to play a TES game 200 hours to even give a fair opinion of it.

But 35 hours? Besides bugs i dont see how anyone could possibly condem a TES in that short a time.

Sorry if that post seems silly seeing as most games last less then 35 hours. But TES is diffrent by 35 hours you've barley gotten your toes wet.

Please give Skyrim another try it might not be as good as Morrowind but it's still a great game.

lmao so agree. Tbh skyrims got some cool moments but most of the things ur doing or how ur doing them is pretty bland. Its a great world to go exploring or hiking in but if ur in it for the story then ya thats long enough to play to see theres an absence in that department.

But even in the exploring part, if u took away the nice graphics and switched it with morrowimds back in the day, id have to say that exploring wouldnt really be all that great. Its alot of flash and my god the flash looks greats...but not really any substance..scratch that. Not alot of substance.

I've beaten the main Quest in hopes I'd stop dragon attacks which are 100x more annoying than cliffracers. I've beaten the DB and ventured a bit into TG. The quest lines were short and boring. Yes the scenery is nice but fighting wolf after bear after wolf after draugr is so redundant. Where are all the great daedra? I realize that Syrim as a province is substantially different from Morrowind and Cyrodil but cone on the best Bethesda can do is slop different names on the same enemies and raise there stats. Fighting draugr at low levels is fun cause they are easy cattle but once you get higher you fight boss fights after boss fights. I won't abuse smithing to make it easier. I liked Morrowind and Fallout:New Vegas system where some areas you should not venture until your a stronger character. Skyrim level scales which especially is brutal for weapons. Where's the great adventure when you know that any weapon you find early game is completely obsolete after a few levels. Morrowind and New Vegas you can find end game weapons as early as you can survive the toll to get them.
Believe me I understand what your trying to say and I've tried about 6 other characters for a total of maybe 6 hours of play but I just can't get emersed

Frankly I don't understand how anyone wouldn't get bored after 35+ hours into the same game I love skyrim and have 70 hours total between 2 characters but I've been playing other games including morrowind after 10 or so hours of consecutive play. By consecutive I mean without playing another game not in one sitting.

Yeah, 35 hours is nothing. It takes me over 100 hours just to get to know an ElderScrolls game. I put about 400 hours in Skyrim before I felt I completely understood it. Unfortunately, that's as far as I want to go. I don't think it's going to be an enduring classic like Morrowind but I feel like I got my money's worth so no complaints.

Yeah, 35 hours is nothing.

It's enough to learn the linearity of the game, unfortunately. :/

To each his/her own. I could agree with Morrowind as it can be very difficult to a new player just to understand the mechanics behind the gameplay. I could agree somewhat with Ovlivion as the level scaling was vicious if you leveled wrong but I can't agree with your statements regarding Skyrim. As a lot have stated as a hiking simulator it's great as an Elder Scrolls game it's very linear, poor story writing and very shallow RPG wise compared to it's predecessors.

This isn't directed at anyone just a statement also this isn't a Skyrim discussion. Just wanted to comment on the great posts I'm this section and how it got me interested back in morrowind

As a whole I have very little to stay that's negative when I play Morrowind. There is always so much to do that there are questlines I've never even tried even after 10 year of playing it. My new character is doing mage guild, tribunal and imperial cult quest in which I've never started 2 of the 3. I was emersed 5 minutes after starting this new character

How do you justify, RP wise, joining both the Imperial Cult and the Tribunal Temple? Not a criticism, just curious.

I played Morrowind for 2000+ hours
I have a couple of 100 hours in Oblivion
But I couldn't bring myself to play more Skyrim after 9 hours.

This just reminds me that I need to buy a new copy of Morrowind.
Xbox version isn't cutting it right now, after 1,100 hours in Skyrim I need some old school.

Just RP'ing a monk priest whose trying to educate himself in the various religions as well as trying to master the "passive" magic so he can play through the game with as little violence as possible. Basically undead, daedra and NPC's who would hurt others are fair game though I will try and calm before I outright attack most. I won't kill any critters

Hours I put into Morrowind: 1,500+ (and just started a new game)

Hours I put into Oblivion: about 600

Hours I put into Skyrim: 101, haven't played in months, no real reason to go back.

After playing Skyrim, I felt it was severely lacking in a lot of ways, but also figured I was merely being nostalgic about Morrowind. After reinstalling it and slapping on the graphics overhaul mod, I realized it wasn't nostalgia. Morrowind is just the better game in my opinion. Even after all this time, there are still things I haven't done.

Skyrim was fun and I got my moneys worth outta it, but it just dosent stand up to morrowind or even oblivion. Ya I said it, I like oblivion as well once I stop laughing at the incredibly ugly faces in the game lol.

I remember spitting beer all over myself the very first time I played oblivion and saw the emporers solemn face lol.

I also liked Oblivion. My favorite parts were the arrow glitch that you could get incredible amounts of ingredients so I could power level alchemy, spell making was great mixing cool spell effects, both the TG and DB were great quest lines and The Shivering Isles was great both in story and equipment. The Knights of the Nine was a great plug-in for your good characters brought a level-up mechanic for you weapons and armor so it would level with you. I just really enjoyed the game beyond how ridiculous my wood elf ranger. High elf pure Mage and my imperial knight all looked

My biggest gaming fear is that the formula will stale.

Oblivion was great though. I used to be totally immersed in its world a few years back.

You, me and anyone who spends time on the Fallout forums. We can only hope they will spend more time on gameplay instead of scenery?

Put 400 in Oblivion but a whopping 35 hours into Skyrim

Oblivion => Skyrim.

Tip: ignore the mq and do some guilds... no dragons.

Edit: got 500 on Skyrim :P

Skyrim's really great if you make your own story, rather than latching onto the pre-made guilds or the MQ and trying in vain to svck an enjoyable roleplay experience out of a bare scaffolding. There isn't enough story in there to sustain a good roleplay. There's enough to serve as a basic foundation, but that seems to be about as far as it goes, and poking and prodding and shaking doesn't make anymore story fall out. I tried. You've got to go in there with your own drama and use the stuff you find as a supplement instead of the other way round. I love Skyrim because it has so many cool "props" for me to play my game of Let's Pretend. But relying on the built-in plots to provide a rich experience is setting yourself up for disappointment, unfortunately.

Return to III - Morrowind
