THAT game Project Offset

Post » Mon May 16, 2011 11:51 pm

So, im just fooling around, but who cares, im just gonna spit it out.

Any of you remember Project Offset?
If you don't here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcYJIhdszyA&feature=related

If Bethesda can pull something like that, I'm sold.
It kinda looks like the same TES setting you know, architecture, fantasy, environment, etc
They can take some ideas from that, the 3rd person combat looks good,
The scale of the world is impressive, in Oblivion the only BIG thing was the White Gold Tower, the city under attack in the video is ... well, HUGE!

A friend of mine claims that project offset is in fact TES V, just like Fallout was called Project Van Buren ... I think its [censored], because last i knew is Intel killed project offset.

So, what's your opinion?
What would you have from PO to be in TESV?

Intel did axe offset and then offsets founders broke up, either going they're own way or forming a new company "fractiv LLC" which at the moment is just a website with a single email address

This really isn't relevant to TES V. I was very excited for Project Offset — five years ago. I would love for TES V to take a bit of influence from what they were doing with that game. But Project Offset is DEFINITELY not in any way related to TES V. Different developers, different time of development, and the fact that PO is now officially defunct are enough to prove that.

If I could have anything from PO added to Skyrim, it would be:
- The fluid combat system (the way the characters move their bodies and use their weapons, in both third- and first-person)
- The stealth kills
- Massive scope to the world (big cities, valleys, mountain ranges, etc.)

I would have built a kickass PC for that game even if I'm a console nerd. That looked most impressive.

That kind of grafic is ... too much ... I doubt Bethesda will take it. But I hope the combat system and atleast characters/creatures will be close to that ...

Project offset is not entirely dead, some of the developers work on it in the company Fractiv llc as mentioned above.
If Bethesdas new engine included the massive world scale, shaders, particles, massive amounts of unique npc's on screen and some other stuff, it would be awesome! ;)
but I'm just dreaming ;)

Was Project Offset going to a open world RPG? Or a Linear Fantasy FPS? If it was going to be a Sandbox RPG then that is amazing! But I could understand how they could focus so much on graphics and gameplay if it was a Linear story, it is still pretty amazing though, especially for its time.

It was going to be an FPS. I don't know if it was going to be linear, though.

Project Offset was for PC, and was based on an engine that the current consoles can't handle, no? If so, Bethesda will not use it since this game is being made for the current console generation. They may go for something similar, but it won't be quite like that, if only because consoles simply can't handle it, nor can most PC's for that matter.

It won't be quite like this, if only because of hardware limitations.

It was planned as being an action FPS and was not open world.

It took them 5 years to make a linear FIRST-PERSON SHOOTER and they didn't even finish it. Are some of you seriously expecting TES - A complex non-linear ROLE-PLAYING GAME with a massive map - to be anything like that? It won't be perfect in every way.

As for the Van Buren reference. The original idea for Fallout 3 was called Van Buren and it was being developed by Black Isle Studio to be published by Interplay. That game died when Black Isle Studio went bankrupt. Fallout New Vegas had most of the concepts that Van Buren would have had, but it was developed by Obsidian which was established by members from Black Isle.

Project Offset has not nor will ever have anything to do with the Elder Scrolls. At best it was closer to Dark Messiah of Might and Magic

Bethesda' main "problem" is that they need a engine that works on all platforms: PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Witch is why PO is not related to TES V.

http://www.tgdaily.com/hardware-features/39211-concept-art-for-intel%E2%80%99s-larrabee-launch-title-released

"Project Offset was rumored to be a PC only game before the Intel acquisition and now we are certain that this in fact will be the case. Intel would not pour money into a game that may look better on a game console than on a PC."

If it helps, it did almost take me 15 sec to find it on google.....

It was supposed to be a multiplayer FPS, think Unreal Tournament in a fantasy setting. In other words, nothing with common with TES at all expect they are fantasy games.

Not that they ever really released any gameplay of Project Offset, it was just tech demo after tech demo.

Then i would advice you to check the date off that IGN report and compare it to Fri 5th Sep 2008. And here is the inside scoop: the IGN report probly dates back to 2007.
