"That spell looks dangerous... keep your distance!"

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 8:23 pm

I currently have 100 conjuration, and 85 destruction magic. Everywhere I go, NPCs constantly complain as if I'm walking around burning down houses and slaughtering townsfolk with summoned daedra. All NPC pvssyr seems to be replaced with:

"That spell looks like it'll hurt!"

"You're asking for trouble walking around with dangerous magic like that!"

"That spell looks dangerous... keep your distance!"

"Uhh... would you mind dousing that magic?"

It's REALLY annoying, and I don't understand what's causing it. I've done nothing threatening.

I think they only say those things if you walk with your spells out?

Is your atronach or dremora lord actively summoned while you're walking around town?

If so I think that's the problem. I had the same thing happening on my mage but it only seemed to happen when I had a summon with me.

'' Sheath '' your magic.

When you have your magic/weapons drawn NPC react accordingly.

Like '' A guard may get nervous, a woman approaches with her weapon drawn ! ''

They were saying it to me even with my spells/weapons sheathed, but I had a dremora lord summoned.

Got rid of the dremora lord and they stopped saying it.

Guard: "I'm going to have to ask you to stop that... shouting... is upsetting the towns people."
Me: "Too bad. There's more where that came from. FUS ROH DAH!!!"

The npc comments are because of the thrall spells which are apparently considered somewhat evil, atleast Dead Thrall. Also theres a bug where you get one of the thrall spells stuck as active effect even when you have no summons up. Thats when the npcs comment all the time and it gets annoying.

I'm not walking around with my spells active, or any dremora/atronachs out.

Oranki, is there any way to fix this?

walking around with 2 dremora lords, a companion with their weapons drawn and your hands ready to cast spells might look a bit suspicious when ur walking through town...

try looking like a villager instead of the leader of a small army...

Read the thread.

I have no weapons drawn, no companions, and no spells active.

I agree to stop shouting every time, and then use the charge shout and see how long it takes for the guard to catch me again. He believes me every time, too!

Then again, maybe he doesn't want me to freeze him with my minty fresh breath and have my atronachs dance on his head.

there is a way to banish your summoned creatures is to use bound sword and slay your summoned(that will banish them to other realm). But to do that you need to obtains a perk in conjuration tree to banish the summoned.

What does this have to do with anything?

Just so you know, if you DO choose the "Too bad" option, they just say something about how they can't say they know of a law against it, but that they will arrest you if they have to. (They never do). Kinda sad. It would be hilarious to get a fine just for going ethereal XD

I've seen the NPCs complain that I was going to burn something while I had a flame enchanted dagger out. I just muttered to myself, "Yeah you if you keep talking..."

*bump* I have this problem as well. I killed my death thrall before entering the city but it didn't help much. "That spell looks dangerous. Keep your distance" :banghead:

LOL classic moments :P
I once hit the right bumper on my controller by accident while walking through Whiterun, next thing i knew half the market crowd and a guard went sailing through the air.
There`s just too much potential for hilarity with Shouts :teehee:

no problem, also note that DispelAllSpells only removes effects that are not permanent, so you wont lose any of your effects or enchantments.

I used the spell "Flames" once, in the beginning, and now my high-level sneak assassin walks in towns with guards saying "Watch it with those flames."
The "DispelAllSpells" console command worked for me there, though.

maybe you had a dangerous aura from a spell. The villagers react to that too! and if you carry a daedric weapon even if you have sheatet it they will respond to it. Like nice dagger for merunes dagger or keep that mace away from me for molag baals
