I'd like to see more guilds in Skyrim. I'd also like to see an infinite amount of randomized but simple quests in each of those guilds for when you've beaten that string of quests. For instance, I would've liked to see a growing list of randomly spawned targets to assassinate at the end of the dark brotherhood string. Similar to what happened at the end of the shivering isles where you had the option of defending your realm from invaders as many times as you wanted.

I'd like to see all of oblivions guilds and a few counterparts...

Mages guild- an organization dedicated to studying legal forms of magic
Necromancers guild-both a political and slightly criminal organization who backs up necromancy in all it's forms
Fighters guild- hero's for hire who never break the law
Vigilante guild- they work for something other than cash rewards and sometimes break the law for the greater good
Thieves guild-a loosely organized guild of thieves and pickpockets
Imperial Guard organization- obviously we know what the guards stand for but it'd be cool to work your way up to captain
Dark Brotherhood- Semi-honorable assasination organization with a lot of power and a lot of rules
Vampire Coven-somewhat like the brotherhood but with hardly any rules but many rituals less organized and filled with vampires

On top of that it would be nice to have two political factions

Progressives- down with slavery up with skooma, tolerance of differences, not quite as happy with the divines and accepting of deadric gods, social programs, down on war

and

Conservatives- longs for the days of the old empire, less tolerant of change, religious when it comes to the 9 divines but no-tolerance for deadric gods, a strong imperial guard presence and pro-imperialism

Anyway....what do you think about these ideas? What would you add or take out, what guilds/joinable factions would you like to see? What guilds would be perfect for your favorite type of character?

imo, the factions we saw in oblivion will not exist, or atleast be very different in skyrim as the empire has collapsed.

and no, i dont want your american political system in my game!

A skyrim warriors kinda guild, kinda like the skaal honor guard but centralized around skyrim as a whole.
A Hunter/Woodsman guild
A criminal syndicate guild, like the commona tong from MW
Join-able Nordic Clans.
Another assassin's guild that rivals the DB.

And also i would like to be able to join minor factions such as blacksmithing guilds, or leather working guilds. Theses wouldnt have quests but would rather give you chance to be able to make things like armor, weapons, furniture for your house(?) and also give you discounts on certain items if the store keeper is also part of the guild.

EDIT: probably forgot a few guilds in there, however that doesnt mean i dont want them, it just means i forgot them :P

- i would also like to see a skyrim warriors guild, though perhaps make it like a province militia, and its job is to act much like the imperial legion did (though more nordic and less roman in its manner)
- a hunting guild would be a fun quest chain, maby giving you some skills to track game or somthing as a reward
- i think a smuggling group would be quite interesting, perhaps smuggling skooma into skyrim from morrowind or cyrodil lol
- it would be cool if they clans were alot like morrowind great houses, but more diverse (having more than just fighter/mage/thief archtypes). i would also like them having more engagements than MW. ie: one clan trying to claim land from another, sparking a small skirmish that you have to participate in.
- seeing as skyrim and morrowind have had a long history of conflict with each other, i think it would be reasonable for the morag tong to have set up a few camps on the eastern edge of skyrim, for intelligence gathering purposes (and maby an assassination or two ;) )

I want a Skooma Fanatics Organization! All Hail the SFO!
We shall follow Sanguine and have weekly parties in our exclusive brothel.

Yeah, the Morag Tong would make no sense. It is a Dunmer traditional assassin's guild. Wouldn't make any sense whatsoever in Skyrim. Hopefully we get plenty of original and creative factions native to the throat of the world. Just like how MW had the Great Houses and the temple, hopefully Skyrim has rival political factions from the different city-states vying for power.

Well, assuming that Skyrim takes after the events of The Infernal City transpire, there should be a massive influx of Dunmer refugees from the East. So maybe they relocated in Skyrim for the time being.

I don't think it'd be Imperial guards in Skyrim.

I agree my draconic friend.

if you knew anything about the lore of tamriel, then you would know that skyrim and morrowind have had uneasy relations for many many years (i.e, solthestiem).
it would make sense having assets right in the heart of a would be enemy.

also, you point is made void by the fact that you can find morag tong members on the eastern side of cyrodil.

Although an interesting idea, merchants tend to compete with each for self profit so unions would be hard. Though if one were to form they could easily become too powerful, especially if fencers were aloud in the guild. The ability to regulate trade could easily bring the local economy to its knees and the ability to restrict trade in a certain city would do wonders political.

On the other hand, if the guild only dealt in legal trade, this would be feasible. They would have direct competition from the Thieves Guild and its fences. If the local guild got to greedy with their prices, the thieves guild would hop in, steal the merchandise and sell it back to the people at much lower prices. <== Given this scenario a Merchants guild would be good and immersive idea. Diffidently a guild my Personality geared Imperial always dreamed of joining.

I'd also like to see a Rangers' or Woodsmans' Guild, and I love the political factions idea!

I've always wanted a Rangers' or Woodsmans' Guild.... Ever since I'd read a series of books titled "The Ranger's Apprentice", I've always been fairly desperate for a nice Rangers' Guild :foodndrink: .

Here's what I'd go with for guilds:

-the Holds: the courts of the various Skyrim kingdoms. We probably wouldn't be able to join all of them (I think there's supposed to be like nine of them, which might be a bit much for the developers to create), but three or four might be reasonable.

-Mercenary Company: basically acts as a replacement for the now-defunct Fighters Guild. Of course, not being an Empire-chartered guild, they'd probably not be quite so strictly a law-abiding organization as the FG was.

-Thieves Guild: a little less Robin Hood than Oblivion's, perhaps.

-Dark Brotherhood: tone down the cult-y elements a bit.

-College of Winterhold: the major magic guild. With the likely Dunmeri refugees in Winterhold, the College might have a more liberal outlook on Necromancy than Cyrodiil's Mages Guild, as the Dunmer did hold certain uses of it to be acceptable.

-Cult of Shor: as the religious guild.

-Vampire Clans: for however many breeds of vampires are in Skyrim.

-Bards College: perhaps for those stealth-focused characters that would like a more law-abiding guild option.

-maybe a Woodsmans Guild.

1) if there are vampires, would like a Vampire Slayer guild. Maybe even a war between the guild and the vampire clans.

2) would also like a spy or agent guild. Maybe a specialized branch of the thieves guild.

I.Love.That.Series. I even had a character named Gilan :) I too would love a Ranger's Guild, maybe they could have a standard issue cloak that you wear and as you advance you get different forms of it

I'd like to see a bounty hunter's guild. The majority of quests would involve hunting down and capturing law breakers and bringing them in alive. The catch is you have to compete with other guild members for bounties.

I've never read them, but I love fantasy novels. Would you recommend them?

On topic: Factions should matter more in terms of dealing with other factions and NPCs IMO

The narrow mindedness with so many people infuriates me!

Guilds can be more than just a hat, they can be more dynamic that a lot of people here are giving them credit. I somewhat blame a lot of this on Oblivion, which was extremely narrow minded. But to those who played Morrowind or Daggerfall, a guild is more than the good organization vs. the evil organizations. It is about doing jobs, and the politics in that faction. Plus, the purpose of a guild is to hold a monopoly of the labor provided. In essence, they're unions you are forced to join if you want to learn and perform those services. A rival organization would be in violation of the charter the guild had set up. There are guilds (monopolies), and then there are factions. Learn the difference is.

For example, there was no good fighters guild and an evil fighters guild. There was the fighters guild, with half the members, especially the higher ups, deep in Cammon Tong pockets, and took a lot of ambiguous or shady contracts to shake down a lot of people. Then there was the fighters guild that wasn't corrupt, who worked with the the Temple, delivered supplies along dangerous routes, and sought to eliminate corruption.

Another example was the mages guild. There, you had one higher up that told you to assassinate people, collect dues from over due members (kill them if they don't or pay their dues yourself), and shake down members who teach magic outside of the guild. Then there's the head of the guild who is completely incompetent, an idiot, and falsified records. Also, in Daggerfall, you would also be sent to pick up a really drunk mage, who is destroying everything around him.

And wtf is up with a necromancer's guild? That is just...ugh...Necromancy is often state sponsored, or practiced by individuals. Cults do form, but it's hardly an organization for learning. Just make it so the College of Whispers, Synod, or whatever the school is in Skyrim have necromancy. The Mages Guild, as a whole, has collapsed, so the chapters outside of Cyrodiil can end up saying 'screw the old rules.' And for the love of Nurgle, stop it with the whole necromancers = puppy kickers.

and for the last time, the Morag Tong are based ONLY in Morrowind. Everywhere else, they'd be taken down either by the local government, or the Dark Brotherhood with swift action. Hell, if you ask me, the DB, by virtue of having to be sneaky, are more capable than the Morag Tong. That cult a lot of people seem to adore do not require to be stealthy. They can kill someone in plain sight, and show papers. Psh.

I didn't post earlier because I was getting tired that rather sooner than later a duplicate thread would pop up once again and two day old ideas wouldn't be elaborated on and completely forgotten (sounds like infanticide). Anyway, since this one seems to live a longer life, here is one of my "old" ideas:
I'm thinking of a (semi-religious?) band of berserkers that hasn't an official status and is only noble when seen through the eyes of the actual members, misunderstood by other classes and those influenced by Imperial rule. Perhaps the last of a certain clan or caste or something like that. Something that feels native to the Nordic culture that's been destroyed and possibly even suppressed during Imperial rule and now these people regained the right to live their lives according to their own old ways, they've somehow lost their identity and they've difficulties accepting they can't bring the past, form an outcast class in their own society. Or this may be too deep...
Anyone care to say what they think about this?

I'd like to see a guild that's run by people who are actually competent.

I think they can have someone else solve some of the problems, instead of having me solve all of them.

They do have people carry out the missions... u only know about ur share of missions. plus if other people were actively solving quest u knew about u wuldnt be a guild leader now would u. I mean even if they gave u 4 missions u'd still view it the same way.

I wouldn't count on it since Skyrim is supposed to have regained much of it's independance and it wasn't even in OB. I assume we'll get a Nordic alternative.
