That's a weird looking rock--OHMYGODMUDCRAB!

I doubt this is a plot-driven area, but I thought this was really cool and wanted to share. I was travelling across the wilderness when I saw a big boulder next to small pool of mud with a whole bunch of mudcrabs crawling around in it, just chilling. I killed them all for the alchemy ingredients. While I looted them, I realized this wasn't a boulder, but the carcass of a giant friggin mudcrab. Check this out: http://i.imgur.com/9Gwlt.jpg

I also wondered what that was. Even tried to revive it with conjuration spell.

Yeah, Ive found this too, and had the same reaction.
I assume its a reference to the giant mudcrab in oblivion.

Cool, it's like the elder mudcrab. What was on it? Just the regular chitin? I'd hope it had a lot of gold...the regular mudcrabs seem to have gold sometimes. Somehow.

Nah I couldn't loot it. Still a really cool find, though.

That's one of many unmarked places of interest and I had a very similar reaction to yours it seems, although...

Spoiler
There is a quest that will cause you to go there briefly, as well as many other unmarked places of interest.

Neat find. I love stumbling across little oddities like that. Just the other day I came across a ring of mushrooms surrounding a staff and book just lying on the ground. Strangely enough, the mushrooms had an 'Activate' rather than a 'Harvest' option. I activated them hesitantly, wondering if I was about to be whisked off through some sort of fairy portal, but the option functioned like regular harvesting. Weird.

It's good you found that, what's left of House Redoran needs a place to live.

I was just wandering around in the wilderness far to the north when I saw some flames, looked like a campfire or something. I ran over to it, and there was just a ring of fire burning on the ground. In the middle, a charred corpse. In front of that, a book called "Spell Tome: Flame Cloak."

I laughed so hard.
