That "WOW" moment

Post » Mon Nov 28, 2011 11:41 pm

Im walking across a plain, I see 4 men walking, I think they are Khajit traders im lookng for, I walk up to them and they are Bandits, they start attacking me, I start moving backwards, trying to keep them in front of me, when I see a Mammoth take interest in whats going on, he charges them from behind, Im attacking from the front, I see bandits getting mauled, and flung like rag dolls, just as I get backed into a Rock, no where to go. The Mammoth looks at me, Im waiting to die, and It turns away, and leaves me with all the spoils. WOW!

Alftand / Blackreach was my first "wow" moment.

I was also very surprised by the fact that Bethesda were able to pull off large battles well in the Civil War questline.

I was walking through the mountains, it had just stopped snowing, i noticed a weird colour at the top of my screen, i thought there was a glitch, i looked up it was a beautifully done aurora borealis effect all across the night sky. Wow

Finding the underground reserve for Kynareth with the waterfalls and trees. Amazing.

Also when fighting a dragon, two giants and a mammoth came and killed it in seconds.

I was on my way to whiterun, and a dragon approaches. It was one of the first dragons in the game, and I had really no means of beating it. So I ran for it. Took out my restoration and hoped for the best, and actually ran really close to whiterun when that Dovahkiin music appears and I feel the spirit rising. Then I entered Riverwood and the dragon flew away.

Always when that Dovahkiin music comes I feel the adrenaline rushing.

Intro of the game. Loved to be face-to-face with my first dragon. Wish I could be born as one!

And, of course, reading subtitles of the dragons speaking. It's kinda "wowl"

Soon after coming out of the starter dungeon on the path to Riverwood, seeing that stream with the small falls and salmon jumping up the stream, with the mountains in the background, that left me awe-struck ^^

Companion questline. Accidentally locked myself in a room and my shield brother went to find the lever to open it, and he got ambushed by a bunch of guys and

Spoiler
He turned into a werewolf and (censorship!) them all up.

That. Was awesome. I did not see that coming.

Also, the third dragon I fought. Why the third? Because it friggin came out of nowhere. That was intense.

I've had a LOT of wow moments. Rather than just rushing round all the time doing various things I actually take time out to just look at the world around me and am often gobsmacked at the detail everywhere I look, whether it's people's clothing, scenery, architecture, the play of light and shadow, various creatures, etc etc etc etc.....this game is a living breathing work of art & while I already considered Bethesda to be easily the best developers out there, They have massively raised the bar with this game & are light years ahead of any other developer imo, I don't use the word "peers" because Bethesda have moved to a place where they simply don't have any peers.

This is an incredible game, I had very high expectations & I wondered whether anything could actually match those expectations. But the developers have blown those expectations out of the water, this is a staggeringly good game & as yet I know i've still only experienced a small part of the gameworld and what it has to offer.

First was fighting the spider in the golden claw dungeon. How he was attacking me with his legs and mandibles and how blocking those attacks made him stagger for a bit and then my power attacks in between his eyes :)

Nice moments, but they all seem to be related to graphics, or story, or battle. That's fine and all, but does anyone have a WOW moment when the Radiant AI or Radiant Story did something really cool? A more sandboxy, emergent gameplay type WOW moment? Just curious if these happen.

After assassinating someone, I return to the scene of the crime days later. A guard walks past me and says "I recognise you from somewhere. Didn't you enter XXX's house just before he/she was killed?"

At this point I sprinted off, not wanting to pay a fine or lose my skill progress in jail. An unexpected moment of tension!

I got several ``WOW`` moments but i′ll stick to my latest.

1# I was to clear out a cave with vampiers - I entered and as I had snuck my way down the first tunnel I cam to a clearing with a live fire and a guard sitting iwth his back to me I pulled my bow, heard as the clean arrow sound sang throughout the room, the guard went crackling and then hung his head forth, I wait for a mement.
I sneak up to get a closer look, the arrow had gone right hrough his throat leaving a neat bloodstain on the tabble he sat at.

A Dragon attacking during the Thalmor Party infiltration. Just as I had one invisibility potion left, this badass dragon comes down outside and all the guards become easy pickings, I leave no one alive, the dragon then goes and greets the front end of the building, leaving me to sneak in and get the details on the thalmor plot. !
