The 100 - Post-Apo TV Series

Post » Thu Feb 04, 2016 1:18 am

So, holy cow... a co-worker told me that I should check out the series on Netflix that's called "The 100", because he knows that I like everything that takes place in a post-apo setting. I have binge watched season 1 and 2 this weekend. I'm totally blown away by the action, the characters, the setting and basically the whole story line.

What really stands out though, is the character development and growth. It is a real pleasure to follow the different character arcs and to see them change throughout the story.

The basis is this: It's 97 years after a nuclear holocaust and the surviving population lives on a space station that is failing. They are sending 100 juvenile delinquents to Earth to see whether it is inhabitable again.

If you watch the show, after the 100 land, make sure you are strapped in for one wild ride.

I actually drew a lot of parallels between the show and the Fallout Universe. For instance, radiation has affect on the human genome and can change your DNA.

Can't say more than that though, because you should really watch the show and discover all that happens for yourself. :)

I give the show 10 out of 10 (as you can see, I am still thinking about the show, can't get it out of my head, it's so incredible! LOL)

Oh and it is in its 3rd season now and airs Thursday nights at 9 PM EST on the CW channel.

In the first 2-3 episodes, character introductions are bait&switch ala LOST. Watching first episodes now, after 2 seasons, is GLORIOUS. How much I assumed, and how wrong I was!

I love the cast, they have amazing young talents there.

I've been looking for another LOST-like series since... well, LOST. And I think The 100 comes the closest. Pretty good cast (although a little too young for my preference), many outdoors scenes, mystery, suspense...

It's been great at least the first 2 seasons, this season I'm not sure why but I don't like what I see on the Jaha/City Of Light front. I kinda expected something else, I don't know. But it happened to LOST too, I didn't like the others so much once we got to know them, I liked the mystery more.

I am so, so glad people started calling Abby out on her inability to do her job (both of them, actually). She should have never been chancellor, she's not made for leadership. I wonder how the Arkers' loyalties will be divided; the majority will probably follow Pike, but Kane and Abby usually favor peace and based on the previews, Clarke is staying with Lexa. Bellamy's frustrated as hell and Monty will stay with his mom. Aside from early s1 squabbles, it will be the first time the original 100 - well, 54(?) now - go against each other instead of being one unit.

Out of the three major arcs this season, Clarke/Lexa/Polis is the one I'm most interested in. The political intrigues started looking very Game of Thrones-y and I want to know the real reason why Nia despises Lexa so much. There is clearly some problem preceding the Coalition.

City of Light is bearable only because of Murphy. I never would have thought he'd become one of my favorite characters on the show, but here we are.

I think Abby just has a hard time adjusting to the fact that there are different rules on the ground. Plus, I feel she may have bitten off more than she can chew. She might be a good doc, but that should be it. Focus on the medicine and let others lead the people.

As for the City of Light thing, I agree, it feels rather odd in the whole context and some of the stuff we have seen totally reminds me of the Matrix. Wonder where they are going with that. Also, I'm not so sure it was a smart move to remove Murphy from the group. I think, he works better in the group dynamic, stirring up trouble. He's a great "bad guy" (mis-guided guy? lol).

My favorite character is definitely Lincoln, because wow, all the stuff he went through, he never broke, he never went over the deep, deep end and he remains true to his moral compass. I also like the Lincoln/Octavia dynamic. The whole cast is amazing, really.

I really hope they are fully moving into Mount Weather. Seriously, it would be silly not to. The treaty shouldn't even matter anymore, plus I would declare it null and void, because of the betrayal and well, the Mountain men are dead. LOL

Well, this is one topic I will not be reading. I have watched the first 4 episodes on Netflix and don't want to know what happens in the rest of the series. :)

I hope so, that is why it has taken me 5 weeks to watch 4 episodes.

Defeated by the English language once again! :(

Seriously though, keep watching. IIRC the first episodes were mostly teen drama, it gets more interesting later on.

The first three episodes or so start off kinda teeny bopper drama and lame, and I almost didn't make it. Though the show gets progressively better. Last half of season one is amazing, season 2 is amazing.

Acting gets way better too as the show goes and the cast is more comfortable in their characters. From season 1 and 2, I'd rate the show an 8.5 out of 10.

I don't like Octavia character and the Lame nonsensical drama they got already at the start of season 3 with her. Just seems like a Lame attempt to get more of the cw crowd. But we shall see if she grows on me like Murphy did.

The scene in the last episode where

Spoiler
Clarke gets captured by the commander and yells "I'm gonna kill you!!! Auuaauuaaahhhhha!!"

was possibly the worst acting in the entire show and I don't know how the director didn't do a reshoot. I know Eliza is a better actor than that, the scene just made me feel embarrassed for her.

I Also feel like they brought in Bellamy's new girlfriend who comes from nowhere as an obvious pointless love interest for this season. The first second I saw her, I thought "oh well there's a character who's going to die". Just seems like they so obviously brought her in to give us an emotional tie to Bellamy when they kill her off.

First episode was kinda of weak, but second episode was great and it feels like the two episodes are really just one big long episode split into 2 which is why the first one didn't seem as strong.

I'm hopeful for this season though. I predict Clarke is going to become a leader of one of the grounder tribes, or that this ice nation is actually going to be the good guys this season and the ark has to ally with them.

I was also put off early on by what I thought would be the typical teen drama crap the CW was known for, but it definitely got better and in no time I thought the first season was fantastic. Only watched about a good first half of the second season that I also enjoyed before I stopped there. I should probably pick back up on it.

This isn't even going to work because Bellamy has a far stronger emotional connection to Octavia and Clarke, so his dead girlfriend won't have the desired impact neither on him nor the audience (who don't care about her because we've only just met her).

Maybe she'll get pregnant instead. Someone certainly will, they didn't bring up Chekhov's contraceptive implants for no reason.

There ya go, she'll get pregnant then be killed to give us the emotional investment. They can't kill Clarke or Octavia yet because they're big characters from the book apparently.

I haven't read the books, but I got a feeling Bellamy's girlfriend isn't a character in them, just by how she was shoehorned in.

Beside the basic premise, the show isn't following the books. It'd be safest to ignore them. Clarke won't die because she's the main character of the show, that's all. At this point I think only Clarke, Bellamy and Murphy are safe.

This is exactly the reason why I dropped it after half way into the second episode. I was waiting for someone to start sparkling.

However, It seems that I may have to revisit the series.

Except in the Fallout universe the mutations aren't the result of radiation, but rather large amounts of FEV being released into the environment from research facilities whose containment was breached during and after the war. In reality, radiation is more likely to cause terminal cancer than any sort of survivable mutations. :P

I'd dare say, Moira Brown took a heavy dosage of rads. :shocking:

Spoiler
True, ghouls may be an exception. There's controversy about whether or not FEV plays a role in the creation of ghouls...even among the creators of the original Fallout games. I remembered Chris Taylor insisting that FEV was necessary in their creation, but apparently Tim Cain disagreed. That said, Bethesda could have changed any of that since then. :P

Anyway, the super mutants and the mutated animal variants are the result of FEV...as far as I know.

That's why I spoiled it up there. The bait&switch character introduction is done masterfully in LOST but here, because of the teen angle, it is dangerous as most would bail out before the switch. I was disappointed at first like you, but I was wrong.

It handles LOST better than LOST. The show is cool in my book, I wish they had a bigger budget and cinematography.

I watched a few episodes last night. It's pretty good. There are some writing choices that really had me groaning, but there's good stuff in there too. I could definitely do without a lot of the love triangle stuff. I think it's fine for some of it to be there, but so far there's too much time spent on it, IMO. There are definitely moments that remind me that I'm watching a CW show. :P

I don't want to spoil it(inner screaming intensifies!) but continue watching, see what happens and come back to me.

I've tried watching The 100 a few times now, the farthest I always get is a few episodes in and I lose interest. I keep hearing it gets a lot better later, maybe I'll try again this week, with a little more patience.
