The 13th Warrior

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 8:28 pm

Woke up this morning to my roommate watching 13th Warrior (Antonio Banderas). I watched it with him and could not help but see the exact correlation between the nordic men and the "eaters of the dead", as the Nords of skyrim and the Forsworn. Anyone else see this?

That's actually the first thing I thought of when I encountered a Forsworn for the first time. I love that movie too. Here is a bit of trivia for you. Did you know that Ulfric Stormcloak is voiced by Vladimir Kulich, the actor who plays Buliwyf in The 13th Warrior?

they seem to rip off a bunch of movies in this game. wait till you get to the "hangover" quest. its a little over the top.
oh and ya i noticed it a bit. 13th warrior is a great movie, and almost as good as the book.

I attacked the forsworn in a giant cave and swam thru a hole in the bottom of the cave and surfaced at the thunder cliffs.

I had the same feeling when I did the first forsworn mission for the Jarl. As I walked through the camp and just the sheer bloodiness...it put me exactly in mind of the 13th warrior. It's one of my favorite movies.

I've never been able to sit through that enitre movie (though I loved Michael Crichton's book, Eaters of the Dead, on which its based). That said, now that you mention it, there is kind of a correlation between the two. Its not really all that surprising, though, since TES takes from films and books all the time.

One awesome thing is that the Vladimir Kulich is the lead Nordic warrior in the the 13th warrior and voice actor in Skyrim.

I love the movie the 13th warrior. Seen it several times.

Something in a video game is based on something seen in a movie or other video game? Shocking.

Yep. I recognized his voice immediately. But I've watched The 13th Warrior at least 10 times.

Fun tidbit for me, Vladamir Kulich grew up out here in Quebec, not far from where I live :D

This. The whole movie was just very tedious to me.

That being said, The Forsworn are easily the greatest faction ever.

I saw that movie long time ago on tv. Good movie if you like medieval stuff. Btw, the Skyrim dog is exactly like the one in that movie. What's the name of that breed?

Seriously, "rip off" is the word you think is appropriate here? How old are you?

Funny, I watched that movie just the other day. Gotta say my favorite character is that bearded blonde dude who sees Antonio's character off at the end. Glad he didn't get taken out by the uh...bear-cannibal-shaman folks.

DAT VOICE.

God, do I hate the Forsworn. I enjoyed killing madanach 3 times more than anything else. Well, except wiping out imperials and Thalmor.

rip off isn't the right term, it's called referencing/easter eggs.

Developers do it all the time to implement a favorite movie, book, character etc into a game that they also enjoyed creating...
It's like a novelist using a real life person/situation that changed their life in someway and putting that into a book.

referencing/easter eggs would be small mention, not using the plot of a movie to make an entire quest line.
