The $2000 home in Diamond City

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 8:03 pm

Why the heck would you want a bunch of strangers roaming around your house, using your bed, taking your stuff, eating your food, and messing up the bathroom? Sounds kinda like college to me...

I have this obsession with creating a home on one of those big green tugboats. I wants it. I also wants it so that it's mobile, and can be moved like a real boat...

Bought Home Plate. Never use it since I realised it can't be networked. The best bit is the upper balcony part but that can't even be built in as it forms part of DC and not Home Plate. All in all a bit of a wasted opportunity.

Maybe the thought is that for $2000 caps, all you're getting is a sleepover apartment for when you're in town and a place to stash your stuff. Don't most of us actually build our own homes in one of the settlements?

First of all, my apologies to the OP for inadvertently taking his thread in two directions. I'll stop after this post.

Everything I read states they ditched the Gambryo engine. The articles don't say 'altered' they say "departed".

Engine one of the biggest criticisms? Fallout 4 is the most stable release of any game they've ever put out. I don't know. I guess everyone looks at things differently. And I still stand by what I said originally. If they would use this new engine (or whatever everyone wants to refer to it as) to make 3 and NV look and work this good, I'd buy those games again in a split second. Some PS3 games are being re-released in HD for the PS4 already.

Back to the original topic:

I remember when I first came across the opportunity to buy that place in Diamond City. I looked at it and thought, "hmm, no place to plant, build stuff, it looks terrible from the outside.". So, I did a quick save, bought it, and quickly reloaded my quicksave. :) I just don't see what you could do to that place to spruce it up any especially since we don't have customization options like in Megaton (or Skyrim). Maybe put in free standing wooden walls and floors to cover it all up?

Most apartments in large buildings will have some level of service access.

Diamond City has several areas around its perimeter where Brahmin could deliver.

Then it would not be hard for someone like Sheffield to keep the workbench stocked

for a small fee to fund his Nuka-Cola habit...

There is no issue with there being a limited construction list,

it's just a bit annoying to not have a supply line, though I can understand why Brahmin inside the market would be unwelcome.

Yeah I thought it was going to be like Megaton, heart-shaped beds, workbenches etc. Could even stick Codsworth there, would've been nice.

Yeah it's the same engine since Morrowind. Nothing is changed it's always the same. Even the newest Unreal 4.5 is the same bad stuff as the first bad, bad Unreal. Terrible these game companies cashing in with this old buggy stuff over decades. We should all sue them to death.

Or stop writing nonsense :) .

I like that it it isolated and off the trade network. Piper and I like to go there every now and then to get away from it all.

I bring Cait there sometimes as well...But don't tell Piper.

Not to be confrontational here, but: can anyone who actually knows what they are talking about list the real deficiencies of this engine compared to other more recently developed engines that could conceivably be used to develop such games?

If anyone can, great, we will all learn a thing or two. If you cannot, then why are you even saying "the engine is problematic?" What specifically is it about the engine that is "problematic?"

I do not yet have the expertise to be sure of this, so correct me if I'm wrong, but . . . many if not MOST of the OS (not the one Oracle gives away, Linux or whatever . . . but most of the actually commercially successful ones) in existence today are built on very old architectures. While all of them have been modified in myriad ways to take advantage of changes in hardware and software, most of therm are hardly "new" at least in the sense that they are evolved versions of their originals.

If someone really does know what they are talking about, please do correct me here, but . . . my understanding is that for complex software like an OS or a game engine, building on last years model is almost ALWAYS the better option than trying to switch to a completely new design that has little or no lineal relationship with the old system.

I think the question is really more about what engine can handle an open world game with a lot of content. Most of the engine complaints (or so it seems to me) are about basic in-game physics like objects not staying put and so forth. It's very possible that an engine that will do everything Beth needs better doesn't exist yet...

What?

It's supposed to be a HOUSE for your PC. Not a setlltement....

that being said, if you find the vanilla workbench too limiting --especially since it doesn't add any other crafting stations like a stove really Beth??-- then I'd highly recommend adding mods to do so. This assumes you're on PC and ok with experimenting with your game. Mods like OCDecorator, Ssix etc. really helped my PC pimp out his shanty town shack interior in #yoloswag style :disguise:

Actually, it's real intended use is for independent storage as a PC home. Think of this as a highly private version of the RR which you don't have to worry about NPCs stealing your PA and other valuable junk. I think Beth added this as an alternative for those players who can't be bothered with the settlement/building features of the game. Just a convenient, central map location to dump your junk and get back on the road.

Dear shane,

Just wait till the DLC, GECK and console mods (presuming you're on one).. I'm sure bethesda or someone else will waste their time designing a heart-shaped bed

P.S; if you're on xbox one, you can play fallout 3 again with the BC coming out, if you're on PC you could anyway and if you're on ps4 you'll have to curl up in a ball and cry because i think microsoft and bethesda are already best of buds

Thanks,

A player

Weird no one says this about unreal or unity...

A game engine is nothing like a car. But the evidence of those two game engines. Of course this is because the company focuses on this. But you can heavily improve engines as much as you want. There may be some thing that might cause you to go back steps to get it up to par but nothing is impossible.

On PC here. I have added all crafting benches and made an AWESOME base out of Home Plate! I LOVE it. I have spent MANY hours arranging all my collections and displaying all my stuff. I will have to post some pics soon!

I bought the place just to see it. I broke everything down, including the lights.

The only piece of furniture I left was a bed, just in case.

Never been back.

Yes pls do so. I'd like to see home plate upgraded as I'm playing on the ps4 atm, so I can't do any fancy alterations with mods until I ameliorate my pc.

You can either:

- Plan what you want to make, take note of the requirements, and bring it there using your companion's blackhole pocket

or

- Buy shipment of woods, steel, etc. from vendors and bring it there. Shipment pack has 0 weight.

I found it pointless. Much better to spend those caps on junk shipments for upgrading Sanctuary or the Castle.

Honestly the caps shouldn't even really be an issue. If you've spent any considerable amount of time playing Fallout 4, you've probably figured out how to make tons of caps by now. I farm water and currently have well over 100,000 caps. Dropping 2000 on Home Plate is nothing.

I bought it much earlier in the game though. I actually did have to save up and scrounge for it, and I don't regret that choice. It may not be for everyone, but personally I love having my own place in Diamond City.

I would definitely use it if I could build crafting stations there, including a power armor one inside. I know you can park it outside, but anyone with a fusion core can steal it.

I want to build a brothel there. Cait as the headmistress and my employees wearing only synth chest harnesses. And drinking buddy serving refreshments.
